Dear Parishioners

A Blessed Christmas and a 2018 rich in Health, Happiness and Peace to you and your families!

As we come together at this time of year – a time for family and friends – it is good for us to

reflect on Jesus Christ, the Lord!

Let us truly welcome Him into our homes and to our celebrations, always remembering that, we

celebrate Christmas not as the world does, but as a Proclamation of our Living Faith that God so

loves the world that He sent His only Son….and that the Word became flesh of the Virgin Mary

and dwells among us.

In a world that wants to make Christmas only about wrapped presents, food, Santa Claus and self-

indulgence, we, as Catholics are not ashamed to profess our Faith: Christmas is about the

Incarnation of the Lord and our salvation history.

Never be ashamed to say “Merry Christmas.” Never be ashamed to send “religious” Christmas

cards, which celebrate His birth to our friends and family members. Never be ashamed to have

the “Manger Scene” in front of our homes, inside our homes and in our streets. Never be

ashamed to give witness to Jesus in the midst of so many counter-testimonies. Be proud, joy-

filled disciples of Jesus and rejoice with me as we celebrate His birth!

As we have prepared for His birth ready by putting up the tree, baking and cooking, shopping

and wrapping, it is good to remember that the best preparation is a good confession so that we

can worthily receive Him in the Eucharist at Christmas Mass.

Come and personally receive God’s merciful love and forgiveness in this wonderful sacrament -

every Saturday, from 3:45pm to 4:45pm.

Come to Christmas Mass. Praise and thank God for the gift of His Son Jesus.

Bring someone with you who perhaps has not been to Church for a while or just

needs a ride! It is my hope to be able to greet all of you at one of our Masses.

To all of you and your families, I extend the greetings of each of us here at St. John Chrysostom.

Know that each of you is in our prayers and thoughts in this holy season, and our wish is that

your hearts may know the joy of the presence of the Newborn King. May the Virgin Mary,

Joseph, and their Infant Son, Jesus, the King of Peace, fill your

hearts and lives and homes with the greatest of blessings at

Christmas and throughout the New Year!

Queridos Feligreses ¡Una Navidad bendecida y un 2018 rico en salud, felicidad y paz para usted y sus familias!

Al reunirnos en esta época del año, un tiempo para la familia y los amigos, ¡es bueno para nosotros reflexionar sobre Jesucristo, el Señor!

Démosle la bienvenida en nuestros hogares y en nuestras celebraciones, recordando siempre que celebramos la Navidad no como lo hace el mundo, sino como una proclamación de nuestra fe viva de que Dios ama tanto al mundo que envió a su único Hijo ... y que el Verbo se hizo carne de la Virgen María y habita entre nosotros.

En un mundo que solo quiere hacer de la Navidad regalos envueltos, comida, Papá Noel y autocomplacencia, nosotros, como católicos, no nos avergonzamos de profesar nuestra fe: la Navidad se trata de la Encarnación del Señor y nuestra historia de salvación.

Nunca se avergüence de decir "Feliz Navidad". Nunca se avergüence de enviar tarjetas de Navidad "religiosas", que celebran Su nacimiento a nuestros amigos y familiares. Nunca se avergüence de tener la "el Pesebre" frente a nuestras casas, dentro de nuestras casas y en nuestras calles. Nunca te avergüences de dar testimonio de Jesús en medio de tantos testimonios contrarios. ¡Sean discípulos orgullosos, llenos de la alegría de Jesús y regocíjense conmigo al celebrar Su nacimiento!

Mientras nos preparamos para Su nacimiento, al adornar el árbol, hornear y cocinar, comprar y envolver, es bueno recordar que la mejor preparación es una buena confesión para que podamos recibirlo dignamente en la Eucaristía en la Misa de Navidad.

Venga y reciba personalmente el amor misericordioso y el perdón de Dios en este maravilloso sacramento, todos los sábados, de 3:45 a 4:45 p.m.

Ven a la Misa de Navidad. Alaba y agradece a Dios por el regalo de Su Hijo Jesús. Trae a alguien contigo que tal vez no ha estado en la Iglesia por un tiempo o simplemente necesita un aventón. Tengo la esperanza de poder saludarlos a todos en una de nuestras Misas.

A todos ustedes y sus familias, extiendo los saludos de cada uno de nosotros aquí en St. John Chrysostom. A Dwelling Place for God

When we look at this morning readings, we see some

interesting insights about King David, the prophet Nathan,

the Virgin Mary, and the Angel.... and two kids: Solomon

and Jesus. The plot is a dwelling for God.

After King David had established himself in his new palace,

he thought to build a house for the Ark of the Covenant.

This was a portable shrine built to contain God’s presence.

Because the people had been nomadic, the Ark had to

be carried with them. Nathan, the prophet assured David

that the Lord was with him, so he could go ahead with his

plans. And Then Nathan had a dream.

God spoke to him saying that, although David would contribute much to the people of God,

and that God would always bless him, David was not to be the builder of the temple for the Ark.

So, the next morning Nathan had to go and tell David that David’s son would build a house for

God. A disappointed David responds with a wonderful prayer. (2 Sam. 7:22-29)

In the Gospel Mary, a simple girl, receives a messenger of God inviting her to be the mother of

the Most High, who will inherit the throne of David his father. Mary is astonished and afraid. She is

told that, as the Spirit hovered over the chaos and brought forth creation, that same Spirit will be

responsible for this new creation.

Mary accepts her role with humility. She will celebrate the goodness of God in her own prayer:

the Magnificat.

David wanted to build a temple but forgot to consider that his time is not God’s time. Mary knew

the people were longing for a Savior but did not consider that she might have a role.

David wanted to honor God through a beautiful physical creation. God wanted inner beauty

and a faithful heart from the one called to care for God’s people.

Mary struggled with the physical, social and emotional difficulties caused by her untimely

pregnancy. In faith she accepted the difficult journey from suspicion to love.

As faithful children, both Mary and David, gave glory to God. The essence of their prayers is the

same: God is great and worthy of all praise. And so we, as faithful children, should continually

give thanks. God’s holiness is manifest in magnificent saving deeds. Throughout history our

forebears have seen awesome works.

God takes human wisdom and turns it upside down. The Poor can be rich and the rich can be

poor. It is God who builds our home and makes His home in us. His love endures. His Word is

forever.

Un Lugar De Morada Para Dios

Cuando vemos las lecturas de esta mañana, vemos algunas ideas interesantes sobre el Rey David, el profeta Natán, la Virgen María y el Ángel ... y dos niños:

Salomón y Jesús. La trama es un lugar para Dios.

Después de que el Rey David se estableció en su nuevo palacio, pensó en construir una Tienda para el Arca de la Alianza. Este era un santuario portátil construido

para contener la presencia de Dios. Debido a que la gente había sido nómada, el Arca tuvo que ser llevada con ellos. Nathan, el profeta le aseguró a David que el

Señor estaba con él, para que él pudiera seguir adelante con sus planes. Y luego Nathan tuvo un sueño.

Dios le habló diciendo que, aunque David contribuiría mucho al pueblo de Dios, y que Dios siempre lo bendeciría, David no sería el constructor del templo

En el Evangelio, María, una niña sencilla, recibe un mensajero de Dios invitándola a ser la madre del Altísimo, quien heredará el trono de David, su padre. María está asombrada y asustada. Se le dice que,

mientras el Espíritu flota sobre el caos y produce la creación, ese mismo Espíritu será responsable de esta nueva creación.

María acepta su papel con humildad. Ella celebrará la bondad de Dios en su propia oración: el Magníficat.

David quería construir un templo, pero olvidó considerar que su tiempo no es el tiempo de Dios. María sabía que la gente anhelaba un Salvador, pero no consideraba que pudiera tener un rol.

David quería honrar a Dios a través de una hermosa creación física. Dios quería la belleza interior y un corazón fiel del llamado a cuidar al pueblo de Dios.

María luchó con las dificultades físicas, sociales y emocionales causadas por su embarazo prematuro. Con fe, ella aceptó el difícil camino de la sospecha al amor.

Como niños fieles, tanto María como David le dieron gloria a Dios. La esencia de sus oraciones es la misma: Dios es grande y digno de toda alabanza. Y entonces, como niños fieles, debemos dar gracias continuamente. La santidad de Dios se manifiesta en magníficas obras de salvación. A lo largo de la

historia, nuestros antepasados han visto obras increíbles.

Dios toma la sabiduría humana y la pone patas arriba. Los pobres pueden ser ricos y los ricos pueden ser pobres. Es Dios quien construye nuestro hogar y hace su hogar en nosotros. Su amor perdura.

Many of us think this song counts down the days until Christmas but it was written to educate the faithful in the doctrines of the faith and yet not be obvious to the persecutors. The numbers are simply a means to help Catholics remember basic facts. Recall the words of the song. “On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: twelve lords a leaping, eleven pipers piping, ten ladies dancing, nine drum- mers drumming, eight maids a milking, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying, five golden rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.” “The Twelve Days of Christmas” celebrates the official season of Christmas. Liturgically the season starts on Christmas Day and goes twelve days later on the Feast of the Epiphany and continues to the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord.

This Is the Meaning of The Song: ►“My true love” refers to God, “me” is the individual Christian. ►The “twelve lords a leaping” are the twelve basic beliefs of the Catholic Church as outlined in the Apostles Creed. ►The “eleven pipers piping” are the eleven Apostles who remained faithful after the treachery of Judas. ►The “ten ladies dancing” are the Ten Commandments. ►The “nine drummers drumming” are the nine choirs of angels, in those days of class distinction were thought important. ►The “eight maids a milking” are the Eight Beatitudes. ►The “seven swans a swimming” are the Seven Sacraments. ►The “six geese a laying” are the Six Commandments of the Church or the six days of creation. ►The “five golden rings” are the first five books of the Old Testament called the Torah. These books are generally considered the most sacred and important of all the Old Testament. ►The “four calling birds” are the Four Gospels. ►The “three French hens” are the Three Persons in God or the three gifts of the Wise Men. ►The “two turtle doves” represent the two natures in Jesus: human and divine or the two Testaments, Old and New. ►The “partridge” is the piece de resistance, Jesus himself, and the “pear tree” is the Cross.
