Think, for a moment, what happens when all these folks (and those I didn’t mention), exit onto Grover Street and into the community! Think how much they shine where they are! They will be building houses, counseling the anxiety ridden, nursing the hurt, packing fruit, checking groceries, healing animals, repairing vehicles, designing buildings, teaching students, editing newspapers, beautifying property, administering businesses, caring for children, caring for the elderly, coaching baseball, preparing food, serving the homeless, etc. Think about how “green” our church and community are because of these folks! They have irrigated the places where they have been planted and partnered with our Creator to grow the kingdom of love and grace. Oh, and to be clear…. “they” are “us.” Praise be to God! So, my prayer is that we all keep watering where we are to green up this world where there are too many dry areas and to shine where we are so that Christ’s light will fill in the dark areas. Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod Bishop Kristen Kuempel reminded us at our Dean’s Retreat of this quote by Neil Barringham: “The grass is always greener where you water it.”

As opposed to the common expression, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence,” she was proposing an optimistic view of the tremendous resources available to us in our Synod and the churches that make up our Synod. Rather than succumb to pessimistic mantras like: “we’re losing members; we’re too small; we don’t have enough money; we can’t find any musicians, etc.,” she encouraged all of us to take a close look at the assets we do have and nurture them to the best of our ability.

Watering where you are reminds me of the song, “Shine,” by Cathy Pino, often sung at summer camp.

You are the light of the world. You are the light of the world. So shine, shine, shine where you are You are the light of the world.

Last week I reflected on a small sample size of how our congregation members shine within the confines of our seven-acre campus (sounds pretty “high-faluten” when I use the word “campus,” doesn’t it? Quick quiz…how many buildings are on our campus?). There were folks doing lawn work, gardening, telling stories, serving coffee, reading scripture, singing praises, ushering, fixing the coffee machine, folding bulletins, leading Bible study, teaching Sunday School, chaperoning youth, playing instruments, teaching ESL, mentoring citizenship students, packing food for the hungry, sewing quilts, planning for summer OMNY, praying together, etc. And this was just on our campus!

Teen Counselors and adult staff will welcome second, third and fourth grade youth to have an enriching experience. Meet New Members

Evangelism Thoughts

Welcome Ted Schlosser. Ted joined

Celebration Lutheran Church March 18, 2018. Ted was born and raised here in Wenatchee. He left the area for 45 years. He and his wife Lynda, returned to the Valley in August 2016. Ted was a Forensic Officer for the CSI. His

interests/hobbies include fishing, hunting and golf. Ted and Lynda will be celebrating their

48th wedding anniversary in July!

Welcome Paige Vail. Paige has spent most of her life here in

the Wenatchee Valley except for her time in college and a short time in Spokane. She is a registered nurse at Central WA

Hospital, working in the Mother/Baby Unit. Her interests and hobbies include reading, gardening, decorating and traveling.

Paige has a son Connor, age 22 and a daughter Erika, age 18.

The history of Celebration Lutheran Church is very interesting and our members have a variety of interests and expertise. As a congregation we have come to know one another, as planners, leaders and evangelists. Together we have an excitement about what we are all about in the ministry of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12 V 27: All of you together are the one body of Christ and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it. God’s spirit is looking for hands, bodies and minds to use and it is your hands, legs and mouth that He uses to do His daily task s in our world.

We as God’s people have been Blessed so we can be a Blessing.

SUNDAY ADULT FORUMS (Sundays @9:30am) We begin the new year with a study of the New Testament. A video series from The Great Courses entitled “The New Testament,” is led by Professor Bart D. Ehrman. Thirty-minute lectures will give a historical introduction to the 27 books of the of New Testament and address such significant questions as who wrote these books, under what circumstances, and for what audience. The goal is to come to a fuller appreciation and understanding of these books that have made such and enormous impact on the history of Western civilization and that continue to play such an important role for people today. Come, grab a cup of coffee, & learn!

Girls’ Night Out Book Club Chooses to be “In Our Midst”

Monday May 21st

~ 6:30pm

At the home of Becky Britt,1119 3rd

St. S.E. in East Wenatchee, 670-3597. Please notify Becky a few days ahead of time if you plan to attend. Westsiders should

arrange their own carpooling.

The genre to read for this meeting is “In Our Midst.” The idea is to select a book either about Wenatchee, a book written by a local author or where the Wenatchee area is the setting for the book. If you are short of ideas, the local library can advise you of Wenatchee authors(662-5021) and the Wenatchee World has published books written by local folks(663-5161).If this genre doesn’t grab you, always feel free to review any book you feel the group might enjoy hearing about. It should be fun to hear about the written word which is a reflection of this wonderful valley in which we live.

If you have questions, contact

Suzy Myrene 663-6918 “Where we love is home, home that my feet may leave,

but not my heart.” -Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

COME ONE, COME ALL WOMEN!!!

“GATHER” on Wednesday May 9, Noon-1:00 PM

Our “Gather” Women's Bible Study has

our Invitation can reflect the

hospitality of Jesus. We will look at
