The City of Joondalup is proud to present the 2019 Sunday Serenades concert series.

In 2019 the series will explore a broad range of music genres including fine music, classic favourites, musical theatre and country music.

Concerts are held in the City of Joondalup Civic Chambers on the third Sunday of every month from May to November and the second Sunday of the month in December.

A special edition of Sunday Serenades will be held in March in the lead up to the 2019 Joondalup Festival, for details see page 6.

For ticketing information including subscription packages, please refer to page 10-11.

Days in the Sun 24 March 2019Rupert Guenther is an electric violinist who will take you on an imaginative journey influenced by ancient, ambient and electronic world-music. Backed by an all-star band, Rupert will use his fascinating skills on the electric violin to explore sounds inspired by the cavernous starry nights sky in celebration of the 2019 Joondalup Festival theme – Exploring the Galaxy.

The Perth Soprano 19 May 2019Join local classical singer Emma Pettemerides as she performs a wide variety of operatic songs from stage and screen. Emma’s performance will include Laurie in Oklahoma, Valencienne in The Merry Widow and Carlotta in Phantom of the Opera. With over 15 years experience performing on the stage, this concert will offer a unique musical experience that will leave you humming the tunes and wanting more.

The Swing Sisters 16 June 2019Relive the Andrew sisters brilliant hits delivered with passion by Perth’s very own sensational Andrew Gals. Performing 1940’s style close harmony vocals in the style of the Andrews sisters, The Andrew Gals are sure to deliver a fun-filled afternoon that will undoubtedly transport you back to the 40’s.

This is a double matinee performance.

Makuru Maya – Winter Sounds 21 July 2019Madjitil Moorna Choir is an inclusive, grass-roots community choir performing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island songs, in languages of country including local Noongar and English. Led by talented Aboriginal performers this concert will feature, award winning singer-songwriter, Phil Bartlett for a soulful and magical afternoon of singing, learning and bringing cultures together.

There is a complimentary afternoon tea following the July concert, offering patrons a taste of traditional Indigenous outback flavours.

The Flaming Galahs: Great Australian Songbook 18 August 2019Monty Cotton returns to celebrate the music of Australia from hundreds of years ago to current hits. Monty Cotton and Big D on double bass and ukulele will take you along a cracking Australian musical timeline with classics from Banjo Paterson, Slim Dusty, John Williamson and more.

Deb ‘Spoons’ Perry Show 15 September 2019Deb ‘Spoons’ Perry has been playing the spoons to audiences for over 30 years. First performing with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Deb has become known worldwide for her entertaining performances including Australia’s Got Talent and appearances on various American TV shows.

Deb will use her body as the drum kit to play a variety of genres of music to upbeat tunes in this interactive one-of a kind performance.

Back to Broadway 20 October 2019The up-and-coming talent of Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) students will take you “Back to Broadway.” The Diploma of Musical Theatre students will present a dynamic program featuring some of the world’s best composers, including Australia’s own Peter Allen. This concert is certain to entertain in an afternoon of joyous song and dance.

This is a double matinee performance. Performance 1: 1.00pm – 2.00pmPerformance 2: 3.00pm – 4.00pm

Country Legends 17 November 2019 Join Zalia Joi and Shannon Smith on a journey through decades of the country legends that have moved their heart and soul.

Displaying their talents with iconic instruments including the guitar, banjolele and ukulele this concert promises to be a memorable experience for all country music lovers.

Christmas Blues 8 December 2019The Sweet Teas are a female vocal trio, delivering beautiful blues songs with heart and sophisticated three-part harmonies. The trio is fronted by sassy, soulful, singer/songwriter, Fifi Mondello an accomplished jazz singer with a love of all things vintage. This Christmas performance will feature music from one of the most joyful times of year in preparation for the festive season.

Enjoy a Christmas celebration afternoon tea following this concert.

Additional Information

• Concerts will commence at 2.00pm and conclude at approximately 3.00pm, with the exception of the additional matinee performances in June and October.

• Matinee concerts feature the same performance held at the following times: Performance 1: 1.00 – 2.00pm Performance 2: 3.00 – 4.00pm

• Doors open 15 minutes prior to the start of each concert. Seating is not allocated.

• Early access is not permitted due to sound checks taking place. Limited seating is available in the foyer prior to the concert commencing.

• The City of Joondalup Civic Chambers is located at 102 Boas Avenue, Joondalup.

• There are no intervals during Sunday Serenades concerts.

• Parking is free in the City Centre on weekends. The best parking for Sunday Serenades is in the Library under-croft and outside the City’s Administration building, located at Boas Avenue, Joondalup.

• Accessible parking bays are located near the lift in the under-croft car park and outside the City’s Administration building for easy access to the Civic Chambers.

• While the City takes all reasonable care in the conduct of the Sunday Serenades concerts and the provision of a safe venue, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of yourself, your family and your belongings when attending these concerts.

• The City’s Community transport program can assist patrons who experience difficulty accessing the public transport system. Please call 9400 4912 for further information on this service.

• Any late notice changes will be communicated on the City’s website joondalup.wa.gov.au or the City’s Facebook page.

Tickets can be purchased individually or as part of a subscription package.

Subscription packages are a great way to guarantee a seat at your favourite performance as tickets are strictly limited for each concert.

Tickets can be purchased online by visiting joondalup.wa.gov.au or by completing the attached ticket order form. Ticket order forms can be returned to the City via the post (see postal address) with either cheque, money order or credit card payment details.
