Sunday Worship10:00 A.M. · April 30, 2017
OUR AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God, the maker of Heaven and Earth, the ruler and preserver of our lives.
I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, my Lord, and Savior. I believe in the Holy Spirit, who proceeded from the Father and Son, who is the giver of life.
I believe in the Bible, the Universal Church, Holy Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. I believe in the Resurrection of the dead and life in the world to come.
RESPONSIVE READING (read in unison)
THE SHEPHERD PSALM, 23rd Psalm * (KJV)
(vs 1) THE Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. (vs 2) HE maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
(vs 3) He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. (vs 4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (vs 5) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (vs 6)Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Dr. David L. Acey, Sr. is a retired assistant professor of African American Rhetoric and Interracial Communication at the University of Memphis. He began his teaching career in 1972 and during his tenure at the University, he served as Director of African American Studies from 1979-1985 and was responsible for designing several Afro centric courses currently taught in the department.
His commitment to race relations and diversity dates back to his early days as a student at the then Memphis State University in 1965. Although black students’ involvement in campus life was strategically kept to a minimum, he was determined to not be silenced. As a result of years of tireless commitment to educate, uplift and encourage the African American community to embrace its culture, he and his wife Yvonne founded Africa in April Cultural Awareness
Festival in 1986. Annually, this four-day festival honors and showcases an African country and includes, from an international perspective, economics, culture, fashions, arts and crafts, music, and a variety of cuisines. The festival also encourages local businesses to build relationships with the honored African countries.
Professionally, Dr. Acey’s membership includes the National African American Studies Association, The Tennessee Education Association, The National Coalition of 100 Black Men, Inc., The Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau, and NAACP (Life Member).
