Sunflower Hill Livermore is a proposed intentional community for individuals with special needs (e.g. Autism, Down Syn- drome, Cerebral Palsy), offering affordable residential living between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income. The need for affordable housing for all citizens is great - but the choices are even more limited for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Nationwide, there are 5 million individuals with special needs - and more than 80 percent will live with their parents their entire lives. Similar to 'senior living' Sunflower Hill Livermore would be a semi-independent community with opportunities for residents to engage in on-site social activities and meals. Most residents will travel off-site during the day - attending educational and vocational programs, volunteering or working at their place of employment. Sunflower Hill is a local nonprofit created in 2012 by a group of parents and community leaders.
