After the dark summer days with unseasonably low rates, Owners have grasped to some rays of hope as the heat turns up for both AHTS and PSVs, against a backdrop of fluctuating vessel availability throughout the month. The good news is not all one sided however, with the welcome news the British government has agreed to provide oil companies tax relief for mature North Sea field developments. As the cold winter months fast approach, Owners will be hoping the sun doesn’t set on current high levels of utilisation but with clouds on the horizon the dark days may yet return...

th September,

whilst handover for the FD Incredible is due at the end of its current project in the Middle East. Italian marine contractor Micoperi has bought the Greatship Mamta from Greatship Global Services. They have re-named the MT 6012 design vessel as the Mamta, as well as re-flagging it from Singapore to Italy. The Subhadra and Suchandra anchor handlers have changed ownership from Varun Shipping Ltd to Varun Cyprus Ltd, and have consequently been officially been renamed the Caspian Challenger and the Caspian Endeavour, re-spectively. These UT 712L anchor handlers are now working in the Caspian Sea. ITC Towage has sold their AHT Typhoon to Indus Shipping and Trading Corporation. Queiroz Galvao Oleo e Gas has confirmed that the ultra-deepwater drillship Amaralina Star has arrived in Brazil. The drillship has a six year with six year option with Petrobras. Equipped with capacity to drill to 40,000 feet in 10,000 feet of water, the Samsung Heavy Industries built vessel will be able to reach the pre-salt layers offshore Brazil.

Seafox Sells Several

Seafox Group has sold two of their jack up units, the Sea-fox 3 and Seafox 6, to their client Coastal Energy. Both of these units have been working for Coastal Energy off-shore Thailand over the past few years. Coastal Energy are able to use these existing jack ups in the more benign environment of Thailand as mobile off-shore production units.

HGO InfraSea Solutions (a joint company of Hochtief Solutions and GeoSea) has now received and christened the most powerful heavy-lift jack-up vessel. Named Inno-vation, the unit was christened at the CRIST shipyard in Gdynia, Poland and is working for the Global Tech I pro-ject in the North Sea where it loads, transports and in-stalls wind turbines. Innovation is capable of loading and installing 6MW+ wind turbines with overall heights of more than 120m as well as heavy foundations in water depths of up to 65m.

Shelf Drilling International Holdings Ltd (a newly formed company sponsored equally by Castle Harlan Inc, Champ Private Equity and Lime Rock Partners) have bought thirty eight shallow water drilling rigs from Transocean. In the approximately USD 1.05 billion agreement Shelf Drilling have bought one swamp barge, thirty active drilling rigs, two that are undergoing reactivation and five that are current-ly stacked. This is in line with Transocean’s strategy to focus on high specification floaters and jack ups, whilst it benefits Shelf Drilling’s focus on shallow water drilling. Where There’s A Wind, There’s a Way!

The MPI Adventure (pictured) has been confirmed that it shall

install Narec’s offshore anemometry hub (NOAH) after a contract

award by international marine engineering company SeaRoc.

The vessel will begin the UK based contract in October where-

upon SeaRoc will complete the mast installation three nautical

miles off the coast of Blyth. This will involve a 635 tonne tripod

foundation, 100 tonne platform and 25 tonne meteorological

mast.

NOAH will provide site wind speed measurements and will col-

lect the environmental data aiding the development, construction

and operation of the proposed Blyth offshore wind demonstration

site.

Built in 2011, MPI Adventure is the second of MPI’s three jack up

vessels designed to transport, lift and install wind turbines and

their foundations.

The answer was of course “incorrectly”. The winner of last month’s competition is : Gordon Wallace (for his particularly entertaining re-ply…!)
