2 | REVISED SEPTEMBER 25, 2020

Welcome to Desert International Horse Park. We’re excited to have you, especially because this is our first, of hopefully many, new and different horse shows. There is so much about this show to like: it is focused on riders at lower heights, it is at a different price point, it occurs during our first reining show. This is going to be an incredibly fun, memorable experience in the desert! And it kicks off an expanded schedule for 2020/2021.

Quite honestly, this is a departure for us at DIHP and we’re looking forward to learning from it and expanding on this concept. We have never done anything but an A rated/Level 5/6 Hunter/Jumper show. And we have never collaborated before to put on a show. Sometimes, folks say “stay focused.” But we also believe strongly that we need to help build the base of the sport. And so, here we go. We’re working closely with the team from the Langer Group because of their experience and focus on this type of H/J shows. And we are both learning that each of us has a strong point of view about creating more fun horse shows. Together, we’re excited to bring this show to you.

Since we announced this equestrian week in the desert, we’ve had tremendous positive feedback. And the concept has grown! LAHJA asked the two of us if we could host their 2020 Medal finals.

While you’re here, check out the reiners. It turns out they like it when you cheer while they are running their patterns. Join in by being part of a team for the Dual Team Event made up of a pro and non-pro reiner, a Carousel Hunter Derby rider, and a jumper rider from the 1.20 Stake. Thanks to LEGISequine.com and Valencia Sport Saddlery for sponsoring this fun event! OUR COVID19 PLANSWe have been closely watching all the horse shows across the country and how they have handled the challenges. We are fortunate to have established many strong working relationships with other horse show managers who have been generous in sharing information about what is working, not working, what is difficult, and more. Like others, we have an extensive plan for this season. We have bought the best equipment, researched the best sanitizers, trained everyone, and so on.

Our facility is uniquely positioned to carry on a horse show safely. We have 239 acres of land with 1.3 million square feet of schooling and competition space. Our barns are 100 feet apart and the vast majority of stalls are 12 x12. We have multiple entrances with the remainder of the property fenced in and everyone arrives by car or truck. We have multiple outdoor dining options. Our new judges’ booths are 8 feet wide. Our rings will have separate entrances and exits. There are no transactions that can’t be done online. Everything about our facility allows for easy social distancing.

In the end, our focus will be on the three things that are most important to well-being. By now, this is well documented, and If we all do the following three things, we can carry on safely.

1. KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE – We’ll reinforce everyone keeping 6 feet apart. Given our space, this is not a challenge. The number of instances where people will have to get “closer” is extremely limited.

2. WEAR A FACE COVERING – We’re asking everyone to wear a face covering whenever they are on the facility property. The exception is when riding a horse.

3. WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY – We will make this really easy. I’m pretty confident there will be a hand sanitizer station within reach of everyone at any time.

The details of our plan will always be available on our website www.deserthorsepark.com and updates will be made constantly and in red. If you have questions, just ask. We’ll make it easy with a “ask us” button.

Page 3: SUNSHINE PREVIEW 2020 - deserthorsepark.com · PREVIEW 2020. 2 | REVISED SEPTEMBER 25, 2020 Welcome to Desert International Horse Park. We’re excited to have you, especially because

No matter what we do, this is a joint effort. We promise to do our part, but we need you to do your part. We’ll clean religiously. But when in doubt, do the three things that matter. So, in advance, thanks for pitching in. By working together, we’ll make it easier and more fun for everyone.

We cannot allow spectators. However, we do not view owners as spectators. Since they are required to sign the entry form, they are part of the competition. Likewise, exhibitors are participants, not spectators. So, if you are a participant, it is okay to watch the competition, as long as you abide by the three things that matter.

Finally, we have a commitment to meet the standards of multiple constituencies and do everything we can to ensure everyone is safe. We will not cut corners. There are also no guarantees that, at some point, someone associated with the show will test positive. And when that happens, we will also do what is required and more.

Join us in the desert! Come for a fabulous experience; stay for great competition! #seeyouinthedesert #desertproud

Protecting the health of your horse and other horses at Desert International Horse Park is of the utmost importance. DIHP has implemented these Required Biosecurity Measures to decrease the risk of introduction and/or spread of contagious or infectious disease at its shows.

UPON ENTRY TO THE DESERT INTERNATIONAL HORSE PARK,ALL HORSES MUST HAVE AND PROVIDE:

PROOF OF VACCINATION Required

Via a signed statement from the attending veterinarian that the horse has been vaccinated against the following:

Within 6 months (180 days) of each show: Equine Influenza (EIV)Within 6 months (180 days) of each show: Rhinopneumonitis (EHV 1 and EHV 4)

If a vaccination will expire during one of the shows, the horse must receive its new vaccination prior to being issued a competition number for that show.

Statement of vaccination must be on Official Letterhead and must contain the Show Name of each horse.

PRESENTATION OF HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

These documents must be presented upon entry to the show grounds and copies must be filed in the Show Office before any competition numbers will be issued. The results on all required papers must indicate the horse’s registered (show) name.

Any horse not accompanied by these documents will be directed to the Show Veterinarian to obtain the required documents and/or vaccinations, and/or will be placed in quarantined stabling until the proper documents are obtained. Any horse showing signs of fever/illness/stress is subject to examination by DIHP Officials and/or the Show Veterinarian, who may at their sole discretion, place the horse in quarantined stabling or take further action if deemed necessary.

See Rules and Regs for more information, and visit deserthorsepark.com for the most up-to-date Requirements.
