You just found out that you are a super hero! What super power would you have and how would you use it? You must include at least one of your five senses.

Creating a Setting
*Have students brainstorm what a setting is and write out examples that they can share with their group.
*Have students brainstorm what sensory details are. If they are unsure what they are, ask them what the five senses are and how they relate to descriptive words.
Activity:
Place five different objects in shoebox. Have the students pull out the objects one at a time and use the sensory details graphic
organizer to write a description of the object. (Remember the descriptions must be in complete sentences).
The students will use the sensory details G.O. to create a setting. o Example: If the object is a pie, the students will write about a bakery or a kitchen, etc.
Dictionary Scavenger Hunt
Following the worksheet provided.
Once you are finished, collaborate with your answers with your group. (Do not copy!)
Missing Character Poster
Missing character! Choose a character from the provided envelope. Using a thesaurus, look up the bolded name of your character. Locate and write down at least two synonyms and two antonyms. Draw your character on a piece of manila construction paper. Create a short story about them being missing using at least one antonym and one synonym.
Revising Sentence Types
You will revise your Super Power story so that it reflects a variety of sentence types. Use the attached sentence types poster as an anchor of support.
Re-write your story using the variety of sentences.
Giggles In The Middle (GITM)
Look up the words provided on the worksheet. Write the definition that fits the paragraph to the right of the vocabulary.
Using a pencil, edit each paragraph. Glue this GITM page into your journal (page 5). We will go over the answers once everyone has been to this station.
If time is left, write a short story using at least 3 vocabulary words, on a sheet of paper.
