PICK’EM

In 2006, Dave and Yvette Mealman and Morrissey Inc presented SRS with a Crown trophy which would travel each year to a winning Retriever Trial Team. The Mealmans’ came up with the beautifully named award , “The Nike” in honor of Jerry Day and Nike who on that year crossed the rainbow bridge at a young age. The Nike award has over time been chosen not to the team but to the individual for sportsman’s like excellence. This award is voted on by the competitors that play the game. This year’s recipient goes to Mike Gibson of Galena, KS

THE NIKE AWARD...

NIKE AWARD A handler that shows great character, morality, kindness, integrity, and above all sportsmanship toward his fellow competitors, his dogs, and a love and respect for the sport.

The 2020 Nike Award Winner-MIKE GIBSON

Mike Gibson has been active in the game of retrievers since the 1990’s. Mike ran his first ever Amateur-only SRS event near Mayflower, AR, in 2008 coming in 4th place and we believe he was hooked. Mike has been fortunate enough to be the top-fin-ishing Crown amateur in 2009 with ShayD and 2015 with Jeter and taking the newly formed SRS Crown Champion Amateur title with Trigg in 2019. Mike resides on the SRS rules commit-tee and this year volunteered to be our “Hunting Buddy” at the line at the SRSUniversity event. Its our pleasure to present the Nike award to Mike Gibson.

TRACY STUBBS St. Cloud, Florida

I am a Retired Fireman from Osceola County Fire Rescue. Currently I own Stubbs Bees, a commercial honey produc-tion and pollination business.I enjoy all types of hunting including waterfowl and upland birds. I have hunted all my life growing up with my family. Dogs have always been part of my life.Retrievers became a passion for me over 20 years ago. Starting with a duck dog for only hunting as many others. I was introduced to the competitive side of it around 1999, through the Central Florida Hunting Retriever Club. Part of the retriever club family is always about giving back to the sport. I became an HRC Judge around 2001. I am currently an HRC AA licensed Finished/Upland Judge.I have served as President of the Hunting Retriever Club Inc. and currently serve as the International Grand Hunt Chairman. I have also been selected as a lifetime member of the Hunting Retriever Club Inc.I’ve been asked to judge the 2020 Crown Championship and I am very humbled to have a front row seat to the best dogs the Super Retriever Series has to offer. Each dog and handler team has shown consistency and excellence to get to the Crown Championship. I wish you all the best of luck!

GREG HOUSER Spokane, Washington

2020SRS Crown Championship Judges

I grew up in Sacramento, California and started hunting waterfowl at 14 years old. I instantly loved the outdoor experience, the birds, the cold and of course the dogs. I went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps and pursue a career in law enforcement in California.

In 2005, I moved to Los Banos, California, the heart of the winter migration for waterfowl. I trained my first dog in 2011 who ultimately went on to become an AKC Master Hunter and Master National Qualifier. My second dog came in 2012, and I began running and training for field trials. I have had several dogs since then and I quickly realized that I could not keep collect-ing dogs. I began training gun dogs for others. I retired from the California Highway Patrol and started training professionally full time running AKC, HRC, and NAH-RA hunt tests and AKC Field Trials while maintaining a solid gun dog program.

In 2020, I moved the kennel to Spokane, Washington and will winter back in California. I enjoy being on the road with the dogs to run different events. I am excit-ed to judge the 2020 SRS Crown Championship and acknowledge all of the hard work and dedication it takes for all of the participants to get here. Best of luck!

We are very active in HRC hunt tests and AKC master tests. We have dogs in the HRC Hall of Fame and AKC Hall of Fame as well. I have run several SRS events through the years with 2nd-6th places finishes. I’ve been hon-ored enough to run the Crown three times.

PICK’EM

Super Retriever seires is please to have EUKANUBA™ as its Team of the Year partner. EUKANUBA™ understands the dedication it takes to achieve this prestigious award. Winning the EUKANUBA™ Team of the year is a well earned excellance title given to the Open and Amateur Dog/Handler Team with the most consistent wins in a calendar year.

In 1969, the Eukanuba founder, Paul Iams, was looking for a mem-orable word that echoed the uncompromising high level of his new dog food formula. With unmatched quality the market had never seen before, Paul wanted a name that was just as special. He found inspiration in the world of jazz. In the 1940s, this unique music was evolving, as was its own unique language. EUKANUBA™ (“You-Ka-Noo-Bah”) was one word that grew out of that culture. It was reserved for something that was “the tops” or “supreme”—whether it was the latest song or a top-of-the-line car. It struck a chord, and he named his product EUKANUBA™ to embody this ideal. And that’s where the EUKANUBA™ history began. Their dedication to creating new innovations in high-performance pet nutrition con-tinues... and with that said EUKANUBA™ would like to reward the overall performance of “ the tops” and most consistent Open and Amateur teams in the Super Retriever Series.

Winners are chosen based on a point system and participation in each Super Retriever Seires event they attend. Each Participant will have a chance to win the highest amount of points based on placement. The Open winner and the Amatuer Winner combined will be presented with cash purse with a portion of this going to a Charity, soon to be annouced.

Super Retriever Series Club Rules and InformationA SRS Club event can be held by a club or formed group. This club or group will decide the type of event it wishes to hold, i.e. Owner/handler, Pro/AM, Amateur only, 4x4 or 2x2 Team event, etc. The Club must fill out a SRS Club Request form completely and submit at least 60 days in advance. The SRS Rules Committee will approve and turn it over to an Event Chairman. It is prefer-able and easier on a Club to have this planned out in advance. SRS suggests at least 6 months to properly plan out a successful event. You will receive a complete packet of information, rules, scoring sheets. Please supply your judges with a spiral note-book to use for points. Please be aware of other test and trials around you. If there is another dog event within a 200 miles range your submission may not be approved by the rules committee. It is important that you get your application turned in as soon as possible. Your event will not be posted on Facebook, SRS website or Huntsec-retary.com until it is received. A SRS Club event must be attended by an SRS approved Field Marshall. A SRS Field Marshall is best described as a combina-tion of Marshall, Judge’s Assistant and SRS Chairman all in one. He is vital in assisting the Judges on scoring and rules. SRS will supply a SRS Field Marshall at $150.00 a day, unless an approved volunteer chair is found for your event. This will consist of 3 days for a 2 day event. If event lasts or is scheduled for more than 2 days the fee for SRS Field Marshall will adjust accordingly. All expenses are supplied by the club for a SRS Field Marshall. This will include travel to and from SRS Club event location, lodging and food expenses. (Travel scheduled early is a saving factor.) The Club must have someone who can electronically keep score on a provided SRS excel score sheet. The Event Chair will check off each day and send to SRS officials for online posting and on Social Media. Once the event is complete all information from the event will be given to the SRS Field Marshall to officially post where applicable. It is important that you try to use the score sheet provided. We are using this not only for the event scores but also for Team of the Year, UKC title points, and SRS Crown qualifying points. Your funds will not be delivered until the Score sheet is delivered and filled out for all series. SRS Club events must have at least 30 combined open/am entries to hold an event. If this is a team event then it must consists of at least 10 teams. SRS Club events will receive Crown Championship places for 1st -3rd in the Open / Amateur Divisions. 4th-6th place teams will qualify based on a total of 4 points within the event calendar year. (See SRS point system in Event Rules and Regulations.) SRS Club must give Ribbons to the Top 6 Open /Amateurs. SRS Club events will hold a limit of 75 dogs unless club feels they can handle more and still keep the integrity of the SRS Club event rules. An extra day would need to be added for more than 75 dogs. Entry fees for a SRS Club Event will be decided by the club. Entry will be anywhere from $125.00 + in Amateur Division to $225.00+ in Open Division. This event will consist of 4 hybrid series. SRS asks that you use the artificial Tanglefree Dead Bird Mallard sold by our National sponsor Tanglefree Waterfowl. Clubs do have the option to use real ducks or cock pheasants at their discretion. There will be no mixing of artificial birds and/or real birds in an event.

The SRS will fill figure out your payout and winners payout and mail the checks. This information along with the checks will be sent out within the week or no later than 2 weeks after the event depending on when the check from Hunt Sec-retary arrives. SRS Club entries will uploaded the Club Application online at www.HuntSecretary.com. Event entry will be closed 1 week prior to the scheduled event. Open entries will have deadline listed on the entry registration. Under no circumstance will SRS allow a late Open entry. If a dog comes in season or is injured you may switch out a dog with a Veterinarian note. The note must explain reasons of withdrawal and have a vet-erinarian address, phone number listed and be signed off by the veterinarian. If you have registered a dog that qualified for the Crown Championship in a prior event, then you may substitute a replacement dog.An Amateur handler may have a late entry based on an un-known work schedule etc. If running order is already made, you run no later than 5th from the top of the current running order if he/she so pleases. A computer generated running order will be processed at Hunt Secretary with influence to the club for printing. (With influence: handlers with multiple dogs will be dispersed evenly through all series.) Once the 1st Series is complete running order will start based on the highest score. It will run highest to lowest score giving the best score last run. Amateurs will start no sooner than the 5th run if he/she so pleases giving them a few runs to watch first. A club may decide to have a Draw for placement at the Han-dlers Meeting if they wish. SRS Club Event Dollars 40 % payback to the Club (unless the club wishes to put a percentage into a charity or to add to the competitor payout. 40 % payback to the Competitor teams (minimum payback to top 3, maximum payback to top 6 in Pro and in Amateur.) Payout will consist of 1st –-60%, 2nd – 30%, 3rd – 10%. in the Open and in the Amateur Division and altered as a clas-sic payout if 1st - 6th place is the payout. 10 % payback to SRS Crown Championship pool.10% payback to the SRS. The Super Retriever Series (SRS) and the United Kennel Club (UKC) have partnered. The UKC will be working with the SRS on titling not only our future Retriever Athletes but grandfathering in past Open and Amateur Crown Champions and Qualifying Open and Amateur Champions. These new titles will now be a part of the UKC Registry.

We have finished calculating 20 years of SRS Title Points. We will be putting these results on the SRS website for you to view. In 2021 these will start to calculate in a program de-signed to caluate not only your UKC Title points but your yearly qualifying ppoints and Eukanuba Team of the Year points as well.

In the meantime register your dogs with the UKC so that your dogs points will earn a SRS title.

SRS CLASSIC EVENTS - Events are currently being of-fered to last years Club events with a few weekends avail-able. We are always looking at 2 or 3 SRS Classic Events each year. If you are unaware of the difference in a Classic and Club, the Classic event is held by a city, chamber or Sports Commission and SRS bring in an event that con-sistes of Dock and Field. The SRS Club Events are held and put on by a Club with Retriever Trials only. If you are inter-ested in or your city is interested in holding an SRS, please reach out to Shannon Nardi or Morgan Harrison. [email protected]
