EXALTED RULER MESSAGE

I hope everyone had a good holiday season. Now it is time to get back to business.

I am notifying all Elks members we are looking at two bylaw changes.

The first bylaw change is to article 3: life, and honorary life memberships. The Grand Lodge changed the life membership criteria a few years ago in the statute, and now enables a member transferring from another lodge to apply for life membership in the new lodge of residence. Our membership would vote whether to accept the incoming life member. Our bylaws do not represent the changes in the Grand Lodge statutes. I suggest the bylaw committee address this issue and submit the change to bring us in line with Grand Lodge.

The second bylaw change that needs to happen is article 4 section 2: meeting time. Our bylaws state that Lodge meetings shall start at 8 pm. I would like to change that in our bylaws to 7 pm.

Respectfully submitted

Lance Wright

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MESSAGE

This year is moving as fast as the last, and it is time to start our plans for the Spring Meeting.

Linda Van Hoek has decided not to run for the Trustee position again. The Board of Directors and the Lodge has benefited from her wisdom and heart. We will miss her help.

The Lodge has decided to sell the Lowry Jubilee organ. If you are interested let Lance, me, or the Office know. We would like to see it go to a Lodge member if possible. It has not played a tune in years.

The Board will be working on the annual duties. Members need to find time for inventory and budget. We will be talking about scheduling soon. We may try to combine both in one long day again.

The A/C unit for the Club Room area has been installed and is up and running. Everyone will notice the difference this summer. The new unit will be much more efficient and that will help on the bills.

Ike Thygerson, Chair

NEWS FROM THE HOUSE COMMITTEE Wow, February is here, and all of you Elks men better get your tickets to take your

lovely women to our Elks Valentine event. (Can you say ‘Brownie Points!’) ☺ On the 3rd is our big SUPER BOWL PARTY! It is an event you don’t want to miss.

There are prizes, our famous garlic cheeseburgers, and much more. When I wrote this I did not know who was going to play in the Super Bowl, I just know it won’t be my Vikings! DARN! But any game is a lot more fun to watch up at your lodge.

So everyone knows, you can start getting your 2019 membership cards. They are available now. Just get with our Lodge secretary, Betty, and she will get you taken care of.

Quote of the month: Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I am not sure about the universe. :)

Thanks,

Leo Lang, House Committee Chairman

Our Lodge needs Members to get involved and help continue to make St. George 'Dixie' Elks Lodge # 1743 the BEST LODGE in the state. We need some good members to be elected or

appointed to be Lodge Officers or committee Chairs. Nominations will be February 12, 7:00 pm in the Lodge Room. Please contact Lyn Murray as soon as possible, 435-817-8087.

Thank you to scholarship judges!

Kudos to our members who participated in the local scholarship judging on Dec. 15 as well as those who helped on Jan. 6 for regional judging.

Special thanks to Ike and Karen Thygerson for recruiting the judges and hats off to Elaine Heger Gubler for her directions and answering questions.

It was a great thing we all did to further the education of some of our local students.

January’s Jam Session at the Elks Lodge was an "absolute delight,” according to one lady in the audience - lots of rock, country & bluegrass, great instrumentals & vocal harmonies!

Pictured from left to right are (back row): Bob Dant, Fred Lohmann, Dave Schjeldahl, Kelly Pentico, Grant Gunn, Hal Millett, Keith Behunin, Keltie Kimball, and Bill Keiffer; (seated): Jean Pyper, Steve Baker & Danny Stam.

ENF Corner February 2019

Hi All, as we get ready to wind down another

Elk year, following are a few stats. As of the most current report, our Lodge has

contributed $13,596.00 this year. We are at $12.72 per capita. You rock members. Thank you so much Elk Members for your generous donations. Thanks to you, we are able do a lot to assist our community.

We have received back $14,800 just in grants that stay in our community and helps fund the Eye Fair, Flying Fish, Hoop Shoot, Veterans, and Millcreek just to mention a few things. Awesome!

On a National level, In 2018-2019, the Elks National Foundation granted $9.6 million to State Elks Associations, in our case for Camp Wapiti. Thay also apportioned $4.6 million to fund ENF scholarship programs, which ensure a bright future for our Nation’s youth. Elks scholars have many social and service opportunities

to connect with the Elks and one another. For more information about our Scholarship programs, go to enf.elks.org/scholarships.

There is still time to donate this Elk year. Just go online to Elks.org/donate. It only takes a few minutes and gets the donation in use quickly.

Hey Officers! For us to qualify as an All American Lodge, all officers need to make at least a minimal donation before April 1. (no foolin’)

Lynn Pappas said the Christmas Boutique was a great success and met the goal of Chairman DeDe Sittre. Thanks to all who participated, either bringing goodies or who bought items.

The Winter Luncheon and the Chinese Auction were two fun functions of the LOE. Even though we sponsor these events all are welcome to attend.

Coming up is...

The is on March 2. Get your ticket early as this sells out fast. Cost is $12 and Linda Chalet will take your reservation.

On March 9, the state meeting will be here in St George. The Grand Exalted Ruler and his wife will attend. Come meet her at the LOE luncheon, which is themed Hats Off to LOE. Prepare to wear a hat. Make your reservations on the State Registration form and put it with your money in the Secretary’s box. Get your form from Rebecca Yager.

OPEN HOURS Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 12-9 Wednesday 12-11 Friday 12-10

Saturday 12-9 Sunday 11-6

It is a New Year and we are ready for

2019. I keep trying to realize that it is here.

We had 45 happy bowlers show up to help us support our scholarship program.

Bragging rights for the High Money winners were Wil Mariluch and Marcy Thompson.

Trent Nay, Bill Echernkamp, Mike Green, Dennis Craft, and Mo Davis were called for the Strike Pot. Dennis Craft and Mo Green did throw strikes and were the winners.

Al Bramlet won the Lucky 13 Strike Pot. This was especially nice as Al and his wife Marilyn are two of our faithful supporters.

Wil Mariluch, Ron Floreani, and Jim Bedford were on a roll! They bowled 300 games.

Mark your calendar for February 10, show up at Sunset Bowl by 1:30, and join us. We will see that you have a "ball". Extra plus! You are helping support our youth.

Thank you all.
