F or the first time ever, on February 7th, 2015 Monster Energy Supercross invaded Petco Park. The sight and sound of motorcycles racing around the downtown home of the San Diego Padres was pretty amazing. But the night of racing was even more amazing! One of the biggest stories was that of the wicked crash of Cooper Webb during practice. The 250cc points leader went down hard and it was doubtful that he would even make it to the nights main event. Somehow he shook it off, qualified for the race, and won it! It was quite a test of the young rider. In the 450cc class, the story was about the #94 rider Ken Roczen and the #41 rider Trey Canard. Feeling the pressure from former champion Ryan Dungey (the current points leader), Roczen really needed a win in San Diego to keep the championship close. Unfortunately for Roczen there was another very hungry and talented rider named Trey Canard with other plans. Roczen got the hole shot and an early race lead but by the halfway point Canard had made his move. Once he got past the #94 bike there was no stopping him. Canard went on to get his second win of the year and maintain his 3rd place position in the points standings. The night also marked the second year in a row the teams honored the troops in the official Military Appreciation Race. Hopefully this tradition and that of racing at Petco Park will live on for years to come.
