Ensuring correct fencepositioning for optimumperformance
To maximise the performance of theacoustic barriers it is essential that thefence or structure to which the barriersare to be attached is situated as close assafely possible to the noise source.
STAGE ONE
Fence / Structure installationwith consideration to allnecessary precautions
It must be recognised that installingSOUNDEX® acoustic barriers to anystructure will increase its wind loading andadditional stabilising methods must beconsidered where necessary. We wouldrecommend that a professionally qualifiedcompany is instructed to carry out windloadcalculations for each application.
STAGE TWO
Correct positioning ofSOUNDEX® temporaryacoustic barriers
It is critical to the performance of theacoustic barrier that they are orientatedaround the right way with the vinyl meshfacing towards the noise source.Incorrect installations will significantlyreduce its performance.
STAGE THREE
31
Manualhandling
Due to the dimensions and weight of theSOUNDEX® acoustic barriers we wouldrecommend that installation is carried-outby a minimum of two qualified personnel.
STAGE FIVE
Finalinspection
Once your acoustic fence has beenconstructed we would recommendthat it is duly inspected by qualifiedpersonnel to ensure that it is stableand gap-free with all the Velcroseams correctly joined together.
STAGE SIX
Attaching theSOUNDEX® barriersto the structure
Having installed your fence / structure correctlythe SOUNDEX® barriers can now be secured tothis by a variety of methods utilising the eyeletsof the acoustic panels; nylon zip-ties are oftenused for this purpose. To ensure that you achieve aunbroken noise barrier it is critical that the panels areconnected together securely along the Velcro seam.
STAGE FOUR
Acoustic barriers must be sufficiently overlapped& joined securely with the velcro seal toeliminate gaps ensuring optimum performance.

It is very important for storage and transportation the theSOUNDEX® acoustic barriers are palletised/stored correctly.
If not stacked properly, damage may occur reducing theiracoustic capabilities.
Guidelines
1.
When storingor transportingacoustic curtains werecommend that theyare folded in half withthe vinyl remaining onthe outside and theacoustic mesh placedface-to-face. For quiltswe would recommendthat they are foldedin half as above downtheir length and thenz-folded into three.
2.
It is recommendedthat they curtainsare stacked inalternate directionson a pallet or othersuitable receptacle.
3.
Do not fold theacoustic core of thebarriers as this mayresult in reducedperformance.
4.
Always sufficientlysecure the barriersto the pallet beforetransportation.
5.
Do not stack thebarriers above asafe height as theycould fall over andcause injury.
6.
Ensure that theacoustic barriersa thoroughly drybefore storage.

1. SOUNDEX® Acoustic curtains should only be used for noise control not general screening.2. When installing a SOUNDEX® acoustic barrier reference should be made to HSE Document HSG151.3. Risk Assessment3.1. It is the responsibility of the contractor using the fencing panels to assess the risks involved and to take the appropriate measures.3.2. Examples of Risks (Site specific risks should always be considered).3.2.1. The effect of wind on the fence panel, which could cause it to blow over.3.2.2. The fence panel being knocked over by moving plant.3.3. Examples of Hazards (Site specific hazards should always be considered).3.3.1. Injury caused by falling panels on passers-by - particularly children - and/or the workforce.3.3.2. Trip hazard of panel feet and braces, both to the public and the workforce working within the panels.3.4. The risks are increased due to the weight of the SOUNDEX® acoustic barriers involved.3.5. Significantly increased risks with longer runs of SOUNDEX® acoustic barriers.4. Protective measures4.1. There are various products on the market that provide cantilever balance to prevent a panel toppling over.4.2. It is recommended that the base is connected to the fence by a diagonal brace as well as by the foot of the upright.4.3. Panels must be securely clamped together.4.4. A long run of panels has the potential to cause a much more serious effect if blown over. A return panel in the the site area will contribute to the stability.5. Policy
It is essential that the risk of the fence falling is carefully considered. Pressure on the curtain increases with the square of the speed. The contractor must take full responsibility for the safety of thestructure, and in the presence of high winds appropriate additional anchoring methods may need to be taken.
This publication is for installation guidance for SOUNDEX® acoustic products only, and all risk assessments, wind load calculations, the erection of the structure and all liability that may be incurred as a result ofan accident is the responsibility of the contractor. Under no circumstance does the integrity of the structure to which they are attached become the responsibility of RVT Group Ltd. This publication is intended forthe UK market only.
