1 General Introduction Please take the neccesary time to read this software manual,

which contains important information about how to install and use

the SuperKontrol Generation 1 Version 1.04 software together

with a SuperK EXTREME system.

Warning The SuperK EXTREME laser system is a laser Class 4 device and

as such potentially dangerous. Read the SuperK EXTREME

Instruction manual before continuing.

Description The SuperKontrol Generation 1 Version 1.04 software is capable of

controlling the SuperK EXTREME products (type numbers in the

series K9x-xxx-xx) on a PC running Microsoft Windows.

2 Installing the software Introduction The SuperKontrol 1.04 software communicates with the SuperK

EXTREME system via a standard USB connection.

This section includes four parts: Installing the USB Interface (See Section USB Interface)

Installing the SuperKontrol 1.04 Software (See Section SuperKontrol Installation)

Installing the RF driver software

Converting and copying the AOTF configuration files into

the right locations in the file structure

Software Download Please notice that the latest edition of the USB driver software

and the SuperKontrol software may be obtained by sending an

email to support@nktphotonics.com NOTICE! Do not connect any of the USB cables until it is specifically

stated in the manual. Compatability The software described in this manual is intended for

SuperK Extreme, SuperK Versa and SuperK Power sources.

It will not work for the new Generation II SuperK Extreme

series. Consult our webpage for application software for

the Generation II sources or contact our technical support.

2.1 USB Interface Note: Install the Silicon Laboratories CP210x USB to UART Bridge

software before connecting the system with the USB port on

the computer.

USB Driver The following procedure describes how to install the driver

software.

Download software from nktphotonics web site.

Run CP210x_VCP_Win_XP_S2K3_Vista_7.exe from

“D:\CP210x VCP driver”, where D is the letter for

the CD-ROM drive.

Click Next on the window that appears.

Read the License Agreement, choose I accept the

terms of the license agreement, and click Next.

Click on Next to proceed with the installation.

Click on Install to begin the installation.

Files are being copied to the computer.

Select Launch the CP210x VCP Driver Installer and

click Finish to begin the actual driver installation.

In the dialog box that appears, click on the Install

button to install the USB driver.

When the installation has completed, click OK to

close the installer.

Use the following procedure to install the SuperKontrol Generation 1, Version

1.04 software.

Place the SuperKontrol Generation 1, version 1.04 CD in the CD-ROM

drive or download software from the following dropbox location:

Run setup.exe.

3 An installer window will show up on the screen.

4 The installer asks for destination directories. Choose the suggested

directories by clicking Next.

5 Read the License Agreement, and choose I accept the License Agree-

ment(s) and Next to proceed.

6 Click Next to start copying files to the computer.

7 A new window shows the progress of the installation.

When the installation has completed, click Next to close the installer.

8 If Windows ask you to restart the computer, select “Restart":

Installation

Use the following procedure to install the RF generator device driver. This

software have to be installed, even if no SuperK DUAL is installed on the

SuperK source.

Step Description

Locate the file setup 2010-11-30.exe in the directory setup 2010-11-

30.exe on the installation media, or download from the following

Run setup 2010-11-30.exe

3 Read and accept the licencing agreement:

4 Enter user name and organisation details:

5 Select an path for the installation (it is recommended to keep the

proposed path, as this may make trouble shooting at a later time

faster)

6 Do not change the default set of modules to be installed:

7 Accept the default menu folder name:

8 Choose if you want desktop item to be created:

9 Review installation options and click “Install”:

10 Wait while installer completes:

11 When the installer completes, make sure the selections are as shown

in below and click “Finish”

12 Install the device drivers by clicking “Next”:

14 Accept and continue installation, by ignoring the compatability

warning, select “Continue Anyway” or “Install this driver software

anyway”:

16 Restart the computer and insert the USB cables.

3 Converting AOTF configuration files Introduction Notice : This section can be skipped if you do not have a SuperK

DUAL module.

AOTFs are driven by RF signals and each crystal has a certain

relationship between the driving frequency and the selected

wavelength. This relationship is established when the SuperK

DUAL module is tested at the factory. The settings are stored in a

configuration file. The configurations file format has been changed

with this revision of SuperKontrol. Hence, if you have

configuration files from a previous release, the configuration files

should be updated using the procedure outlined in this section.

3.1 Configuration file conversion process Note: Use the procedure desribed below to convert an AOTF configuration

file to the new format.

Locate the AOTF configuration file converter on the installation

media under the folder G1 AOTF Configuration File converter and

run the file Convert SuperK Dual Configuration File.exe.

The software will ask for the old configuration file: “C:\Program

Files\SuperKontrol_V1.04\AOTF_ConfigurationFiles”

3 Next the software will ask for path and file name for the new

converted configuration file. renema the new file to be the same

The program folder was chosen during during the installation of

the SuperKontrol program.

4 Operating the SuperKontrol software Introduction For instruktions on how to setup the SuperK light source and

SuperK Dual (if present), please consult the associated hardware

manuals.

4.1 Software Startup Note: When all connections to the hardware have been done

correctly, switch on the SuperK lightsource and the external

RF driver (if one is present).

When ready, start the SuperKontrol application

software.

Wait a few seconds while the software configures

itself according to the hardware connected.

AOTF Status : This is a status display showing the communication

status for the SuperK Dual module

SuperK Info : This is a status display showing communication

status with the SuperK light source

3 Emission/On/Off : This is an indicator and a control. If the key is

pressed, the emission status will change. Similar if the emission

key on the SuperK source is activated, the status of this indicator

will change in SuperKontrol.Red=Emission, Green=No Emission 4 Interlock Status: Indicates if the interlock circuit is ready for

emission or not (for example, if the door interlock is open, the

interlock status will be off). 5 Power/CurrentLevel Indicator and control: This slider allows the

SuperKontrol user to change the power settings on the source. If

the power level is changed on the light source dial instead, this

indicator will follow. 6 Power/Current Mode control: This indicator and control allows the

SuperKontrol user to change the operation mode of the light

source. Similar, if the operation mode of the light source is changed

via the front panel menu system, the indicator(5) in SuperKontrol

will change accordingly. 7 STOP : When the system is being shut down, this control is used to

stop the SuperKontrol software. This button should always be used

before switching main power off. It should also always be used if a

different program (for example a program developed with the SDK)

should be run. If this procedure is not followed, there is a risk that

the program will not release the communication port, which in turn

means no other programs will be able to control the SuperK system

or modules.

In case the above procedure is not followed, restart the computer,

and everything should be back to normal. 8 In case the system has been sold with the COMMAND option, these

controls allow the use and configure COMMAND option 9 If an SuperKDual system is connected, the right hand side pane

allows control of the 8 channals of the AOTF. The fist control is a

switch that switches the present channel on/off.

10 The RF power slides controls the amount of RF power sent to the

AOTF crystal inside the SuperK Dual. 11 The Wavelength slider configures according to the crystal

connected. This slider is used to select the wavelength at the

present channel.
