Administration of Medication Procedures CHANGES IN RELATION TO ADMINISTRATION OF PARACETAMOL/IBUPROFEN
4. Procedure Details
4.1 General Principles
Authorisation by the parent/s is required for the administration of all medication. This includes prescribed and non-prescribed medication.
Authorisation by a doctor, dispensing pharmacist or nurse is required for the administration of all prescribed medication.
A record of all authorisations (verbal or written) must be kept by the school. Schools must only accept prescribed in date medication provided in the dispensed, labelled
container, or the original over-the-counter packaging for non-prescribed medication. An official register for the administration of medication to students must be maintained. It must
have a record of all occasions when medication is administered to a student.
Analgesics (such as paracetamol and ibuprofen) and naproxen (used in the treatment of menstrual pain) should not be kept in a first aid kit. These medications must not be given to students without authorisation from the parent/s and the student’s medical practitioner. In such cases the medication should be provided by the parent/s and an Administration of Student Medication Authorisation form filled in.
Exeter High School will no longer supply Panadol / Ibuprofen or similar.
