GINDRAT FAlvIILY

of

SOUTH CAROLINA and GEORGIA

The early generations have been copied from a large chart prepared

in Switzerland some ye~rs ago. Abstracts from this chart were furnished

by Arnold Gindrat Talbot, of Germantown, Pennsylvania. There does not

appear any mention of where this family originally lived in France. They

were in Tran.salon, Canton of Berne, Switzerland prior to 1681.

We herewith extend our thanks to those who have cooperated in making

this record and particularly to Yr. Arnold G. Talbot, Mrs. Falba Counts,

Mrs. Wimberly, and Jlrs. Sally Thorington. For the copies of the deeds,

will, and other court re~ords in Charleston, s.c. credit with thanks

are due Miss Katherine B. Mazyck, Historian of the Huguenot Society of

South Carolina.

ABRAHAM . . (1) GINDRAT

of

PU RYS BURG, SOUTH CAROLINA

FOUNDER of the FA.MIL Y

AMERICA

Born in the Canton of Berne, Switzerland, baptized in 1713. He was one

of the immigrants of John Fury's colony and arrived in~south Carolina in

173i-1735. There is some mention that he had a brother, Pierre, who also

came to.America at the same time. The records do not disclose any men-

·tion of any one of the name except Abraham in the early days and this

tradition cannot be verified.

The earliest definite record of Abraham is that of a grant of

land containing fifty acres located in Purysburg, Granville County1

. ... . .. South Carolina and dated 16 September 1738 and under the name of ABRAHAli

JINDRA. ( Land Records, Columbia; s.c., also South Carolina Historical
