Admission

The University Preparation Programme is open to persons, who have been admitted to a

regular university study programme by the rectorate of the University of Innsbruck under

the condition that they

(a) pass the supplementary examination to prove sufficient knowledge of the German

language and

(b) possibly one or several supplementary examinations in other subjects before they

start the regular university study programme.

Learning Objective

International university applicants are prepared for passing the supplementary exami-

nation to prove their German language skills. The supplementary examination is taken

within the scope of the University Preparation Programme. Graduates acquire the

German skills required for successful study progress.

It is aimed at introducing the graduates to the most important contents and require-

ments of the Austrian school leaving certificate and to establish the required equivalence

of their school leaving certificate with a domestic one.

Structure

The university preparation programme starts from level A2.

Newcomers fill in the online placement test to assess their language skills (https://bit.ly/

placementtest_epd).

Persons, who have already successfully passed a module, advance to the next-level

module.

SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATION UNIVERSITY PREPARATION PROGRAMME FOR SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS

Process Flow

Application for admission to the University of Innsbruck

(electronic or per mail)

1. Written application for admission to a degree study programme (Bachelor‘s, Master‘s,

PhD) incl. application documents and proof of A2 language proficiency (or higher) to

the Admission Department -> by 5 September (for the winter semester) or 5 February

(for the summer semester) resp.

2. Examination of the application by the Admission Department (processing time of up to

12 weeks)

3. Receipt of the notification (letter of acceptance / “Mitteilung”) with the stipulation of

supplementary examination(s)

4. Taking of the online placement test (http://bit.ly/placementtest_epd)

Admission to the University of Innsbruck

5. Registration for the University Preparation Programme and payment (€980.- / semester)

by credit card, cash card or in cash at the Language Centre

6. Enrolment as non-degree student at the University of Innsbruck at the Admission

Department

7. Receipt of the student ID card and access data for the student account

8. Payment of the ÖH-fee* (currently €19.70 / semester) on site at the terminal or by online

banking

Note: The latest possible date for entry to the University Preparation Programme is two

weeks after the beginning of the course. Afterwards it is no longer possible to register for

the University Preparation Programme and to enrol at the University.
