RUHI BOOK 3 – GRADE 2Support Material

NOTES TO TEACHERSThis material is to be used in conjunction with

The Ruhi Book 3 – Grade 2 childrens class lessons.

Material:Each printable prayer and quotation is accompanied by a short instruction which the children can complete to reinforce their learning. It is sometimes beneficial to read the story while they draw and colour.

Memorization:Prayers and Quotations have five circles at the bottom to aid in memorization. It is suggested that each time children say it correctly from memory they get a tick in one of the circles. When they have said it correctly five times they get a prize. These could be a sticker, a special stone, a bead added to a string, a sweet, a piece of lego, a collectors card or anything else that might motivate the group.

There are different ways to do it, but one way is: allow the children to be tested by parents or other adults and receive ticks for their successful memorizations during the week and then the last attempt to get the final tick can be said to you – the teacher - so that you can see their progress.

Booklet:It is suggested that the children each have a blank booklet that they can glue their quotations and prayers in to as they receive them so as not to lose them. They should bring this to each session but then take it home to practice memorizations.

Copyright Notice:Teachers are welcome to make copies of this material as needed for the purpose of

Baha'i children's classes but no material is to be copied and sold for profit.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LESSONSPRAYER

LESSON 1 (PRAYER): Trace over the words with coloured pencils to create a shadow representing the shadow of God's 'loving-kindness'.

LESSON 1: Colour in the letters and draw in musical notes around the words to remind us of the 'sweetness' of the Word of God and that saying a prayer should sound beautiful and melodic.

LESSON 2: Use blue and green pencils to softly colour over each line of the quote in a wave to represent the ocean of the Word of God that we need to immerse ourselves in.

LESSON 3: Use different colours to make a spiral of colour reminding us that we need to turn toward God.

OBEDIENCE TO GOD'S LAWS

LESSON 4 (PRAYER): Draw footprints around the heart to remind us that guide will guide our footsteps.

LESSON 4: Colour in the centre of the heart beautifully representing the beauty we need to have in our hearts.

LESSON 5: Draw grass, flowers etc.. around the words to leave the shape of the path to represent the path we travel towards being closer to God.

LESSON 6: Draw in the hands and numbers of a clock as a reminder of Ábdu'l-Bahá's advice that the way to put into practice God's teachings is 'little by little, day by day'.

SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

LESSON 7 (PRAYER): Children draw things in their lives around the circle using the examples in the prayer for inspiration. For example; actions, drink, home. The prayer in the centre represents making spiritual things the centre and focus of our lives.

LESSON 7: In the image of the book ask the children to draw a picture on the blank page of something that they know about God.

LESSON 8: Draw leaves around the words to make it look like branches representing all the branches of knowledge that we can learn about.

LESSON 9: Draw pictures around the question mark of ways we can question or investigate things. For example; we can use our words to ask, our eyes to observe, our ears to listen and learn.

LIVING IN HARMONY

LESSON 10 (PRAYER): Pretend the lines of the prayer are grass and stems of flowers. Softly shade in green. Draw colourful flowers above them representing the people as the flowers of one garden.

LESSON 10: Draw pictures of people around the circle which symbolises the world. The people should have different coloured skin, hair, eyes, where different clothes etc... to represent all the people of the world.

LESSON 11: Draw the same number of people in each side of the scales to represent fairness for all.

LESSON 12: Draw people holding up the box at the top of the page. Working and cooperating together to complete their task.

BEING A GOOD FRIEND

LESSON 13 (PRAYER): Above the words “I put my whole trust in thee” draw or write in things that are important to you that you can trust God with, for eg. To look after your family, guide you to do the write thing, give you strength when things are hard.

LESSON 13: Draw or write in around the quotation the good things you think God might see in you because God is our true friend and knows what is in our hearts.

LESSON 14: Draw two people. One holding each side of the bar of trust symbolising the quality that makes strong friendships and connects people together.

LESSON 15: Draw people around the circle all holding and touching with their hand a part of the quotation symbolising the Word of God linking people together.

SERVICE

LESSON 16: (PRAYER): Write in at the end of each line something that children need to learn in order that they can 'render service to the world or humanity'.

LESSON 16: In the thought cloud draw in the people you should try to consider before yourself. For example: Family, Friends.

LESSON 17: Use the circle to make a pie graph of how you think you should spend your time. How much time should you spend helping people, making yourself happy (playing, watching tv, thinking about yourself), doing chores (brushing teeth, eating, having a shower, cleaning your room, doing your homework), praying, going to school / work, socialising with your friends – there may be other categories aswell.

LESSON18: Think about what you would like to do for a job when you grow up. Draw a picture of yourself ready for work and write into the sign post where you would go to work, for example: a hospital, a farm, an office. Think about how your job might help someone or the community in some way.

CONSULTATION

LESSON 19 (PRAYER): Pretend the words of the prayer are a rose bush – draw in the roses and leaves. Draw in birds flying around the bush and stars in the sky shining brightly just as it describes in the prayer.

LESSON 19: Draw a lamp around the words so that the words look like the flame inside it representing how consultation is a like a light that guides us forwards.

LESSON 20: Make the two circles into a pair of glasses to remind us that just as wearing glasses can make us see things around us better, consultation helps us see the truth better.

LESSON 21: Inside the pot made of words draw in some yummy looking soup to remind us of the many views that are put into consultation to create a unified outcome.
