    CU Pharmacy makes a splash at this year’sColorado HOSA Leadership ConferenceColorado high school students gathered in downtown Denver for the HOSA - FutureHealth Professionals State Leadership Conference February 14-16 and CUPharmacy was there in full force.

    Catherine Jarvis, PharmD, presented at the opening ceremony to more than 1,000students who are highly invested in health professions careers, while in the exhibithall a steady stream of students participated in an engaging, hands-on activity to geta sense for the role of a pharmacist.

    Over the course of three days, CU Pharmacy students, faculty and alumni presentedon a number of topics including opioids, marijuana, dangers of vaping/e-cigarettesand the many areas of pharmacy specialization. Among the presenters were fourth-year students Dianne Kitt and Wendy Serrano; faculty Jacci Bainbridge, PharmD(Class of 1995), and Wesley Nuffer, PharmD (Class of 1999); and Morgan Payne,PharmD.

    A special thanks to Julia Rawlings, PharmD (Class of 2004), who coordinated theHOSA Pharmacy Science Competitive Event where students demonstrated variouspharmacy-related skills. This resulted in the first ever “mastery” designation to onestudent and an award to Dr. Rawlings for the HOSA – Future Health Professionals"Partner of the Year." Overall, a great opportunity to connect with young studentsand share why pharmacy is a great career choice!

Heldat the Denver Museum of Nature &Science, this annual event serves as ameans of appreciation to alumni, donors,preceptors, students, faculty, staff andother friends of CU Pharmacy for theirdedication and commitment to the school.
