What we do atThe Mayhew

Established since 1886, The Mayhew

Animal Home is one of the busiest and

most effective animal welfare

organisations in London today, helping

thousands of animals escape a life of

cruelty and neglect every year and

tackling animal welfare issues through

prevention and education. We are a

recognised animal welfare and rehoming

charity in London and internationally.

We work to encourage responsible pet

ownership and promote neutering as the

most humane method of addressing the

pet overpopulation crisis that we face.

The Mayhew receives no government or

lottery funding. We rely on the generosity

and support of corporate and business

sponsors, and the general public, who

enable us to care for and help thousands

of animals every year.

Promoting animal welfare

and helping pet owners

Our adoption team works hard to rehome

the hundreds of abandoned and neglected

dogs and cats that arrive into our care to

loving, forever families.

We work to prevent animal welfare issues

through our innovative and broad range

of community-based animal care,

education and welfare projects.

Our team of Animal Welfare Officers

respond daily to emergency cases of

dumped and neglected animals, as well

as working with the homeless, elderly

and vulnerable to help them care and

look after their pets. They also educate

animal carers and owners in the

community on standards of welfare and

work tirelessly to address the issues of

irresponsible pet ownership. The team

strive to contain and control the feral cat

population through our Trap Neuter

Return programme and they work with

local councils, housing associations and

the Metropolitan Police to address the

misuse and mistreatment of dogs.

Community Vet Clinic

Our highly skilled team of registered vets

and veterinary nurses in our Community

Vet Clinic offer pet treatment, care and

neutering at low cost so that pet care is

affordable to everyone. We offer

microchipping, health and dental checks,

vaccinations, worming and de-fleaing.

Our Vet Clinic is an approved veterinary

training centre where we train UK vet

students, vet nurses and overseas vets on

the latest neutering surgery and care

techniques. We also offer a Diploma in

Animal Care in conjunction with the

College of Animal Welfare.

Working overseas

Mayhew International is our overseas arm

where we work in countries including

Russia, Georgia, India and Afghanistan.

Through our international projects

working with animal organisations,

universities and training facilities,

governments and authorities we progress

animal welfare and education, neutering

and rabies prevention programmes which

relieves the suffering of animals globally

and helps local communities.

to guess who is who!

• Lunch time or after work quiz: challenge

your rival department.

to work on reception for a day

• Fill a jar with sweets and goodies and pay

to guess how many are inside. The person

who gets the closest wins the treats!

• Sponsored tea break: bring homemade

cakes and invite others to spend what

they would normally would in a coffee

shop.

racing or words per minute contest.

Fundraising for The Mayhew

Can’t adopt an animal? Don’t worry, you

can adopt The Mayhew as your charity!

Below are just a few examples of how

you can do this. There are lots of ways to

tailor your support to fit in with your time

and resources.

• Charity of the Week, Month or Year:

Choose to support The Mayhew for the

amount of time that suits you. You

could ask customers to add £1 to their

bill, hold a collection in your work place or

come up with your own exciting and

fun ways to fundraise.

• Events: Take part in one of our many

challenges, come along to any one of

our various events or hold your own

event to help us. A great, fun way to

support us!

At The Mayhew Animal Home we

organise and hold several major

fundraising events throughout the year so

that we can help more animals and

improve their lives. Our events offer you a

range of opportunities to promote your

brand and products to an animal-friendly

and diverse family audience and associate

your brand with a recognised animal

welfare and rehoming charity.

Tinsel and Tails

Our glitziest event of the year is Tinsel

and Tails, our Christmas Gala fundraiser

celebrating our achievements over the

year with over 200 of our supporters.

Featuring a 3-course meal, celebrity

attendance, a raffle and an auction, the

evening is packed with excitement,

anticipation and emotion.

Sponsored walk

To celebrate World Animal Week,

participants are invited to take part in our

sponsored dog walk around Hampstead

Heath with one addition… its fancy dress!

Open Day

This is a unique chance for our supporters,

families and their dogs to visit The Mayhew

and see behind the scenes. With a rehomed

dog parade, demonstrations, Vet Clinic

tours and fun stalls and games, our

supporters and traders come together as

we close off the street and throw open

our doors to the public.

Hounds on the Heath

Our main summer event takes place at

Hampstead Heath welcoming supporters,

families and passers-by to take part in

dog shows, meet our celebrity judges and

browse our many stalls. This is a truly fun

day out for both our two-legged and

four-legged friends!

Christmas Fair

The Mayhew offers guests the chance to

meet our four-legged residents and the

people who save their lives. With festive

stalls, entertainment and refreshments, it

is a truly wonderful way to kick start the

countdown to Christmas.

Challenge events

Your business or organisation can get

involved with our fundraising challenge

events, including running, cycling and sky

diving. Your employees’ involvement can

really make a difference to the thousands

of cats and dogs that we rescue and save

and it’s easy to set up a team and get

fundraising. We have places on several

exciting challenge events throughout the

year so there really is something for
