Overview

❑ Last complete Surah to be revealed on Prophet

❑Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas states that this is the last Surah of the Quran to be revealed, i. e. no complete Surah was sent down to the Holy Prophet after it. (Muslim, Nasai, Tabarani, Ibn Abi Shaibah, Ibn Marduyah)

❑ Revealed during Farewell Pilgrimage

❑According to Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar, this Surah was sent down on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage in the middle of the Days at Mina, and after it the Holy Prophet rode his she camel and gave his well known Sermon. (Tirmidhi, Bazzar, Baihaqi, Ibn Abi Shaibah, Abd bin Humaid, AbnYala, Ibn Marduyah)

Introduction

❑ Departure of Prophet

❑In the other traditions related from Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas, it has been stated that at the revelation of this Surah the Holy Prophet understood that he had been informed of his departure from the world.(Musnad Ahmad, Ibn Jarir, Tabarani, Nasai, Ibn Abi Hatim, Ibn Marduyah).

❑Some narrations report that this Surah is considered one fourth of the Quran in significance along with a few other Surahs.

Introduction

❑ When the Nasr of Allah comes and Al-Fath.

❑Nasr means "help." It is different from normal help like Madad but a greater form of total help.

❑It means Allah's help came against the disbelievers of Arabia.

❑At one point they were oppressors over the Muslims, but the situation changed so much that their leaders came to beg good terms from the Muslims

First Verse

تم أم خلواأنحسب اال جنةتد ثليأ تكمولم االذينم ست هم قب لكممنخلو بأ ساءم اءوالضال وزل زلواار

سوليقولحتى ارمتى معهآمنواوالذينالار نص ارإنأل للا نص قاريب للا - 2:214Do you think you will enter Jannah and a similar example like the people before you has not come to you? They were touched by poverty and hardship and were shaken until their messenger and the people who believed said "When is the Help of Allah?" There is no doubt the Help of Allah is near. (2:214)

❑This is the Help of Allah spoken of in this Surah. The Prophet and the companions went through extreme difficulties and were patient in their test and Allah rewarded them with his Help.

❑Al-Fath means opening or conquest or victory.

❑Meaning derives from imagery of a castle gate being opened and hence it being conquered by the army.

❑It refers to victory of Islam over the land of Arabia. Specifically, it can refer to the Conquest of Makkah.

❑Al-Fath can also mean "decision" or "verdict." I.e. "truth being opened up" for everyone to see.

First Verse

❑ When the Nasr of Allah comes and Al-Fath.

❑When Islam becomes victorious and Help of Allah becomes clear.

❑No person who witnessed it could deny it any longer.

❑Abu Sufyan said: "If there was any God other than Allah, he would have certainly helped us by now" when Makkah was being conquered.

First Verse

❑ And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in large groups.

❑After Makkah was conquered and enemies of Islam were defeated, Arab tribes one after the other came to accept Islam.

Second Verse

❑This shows that the message of Islam had spread and was no longer a local phenomenon.

❑The Prophet (SAW) fulfilled his job of conveying the message.

Second Verse

❑As a result of people starting to accept Islam and paying attention to the message, the Prophet (SAW) is asked to worship Allah.

❑It is an indicator of the end of his life. He is told to concentrate on his Aakhirah.

❑In the final time of his life, the Prophet (SAW) increased the ibadah he did

❑Glorifying Allah (SubhanaAllah) is also done when we see something amazing.

Third Verse

❑He is told to ask forgiveness for any small mistakes or errors he may have made in his mission.

❑No one is perfect in doing their job, so one should always ask for forgiveness and never get satisfied with the perfection of what they did.

Third Verse

“Indeed Allah loves those who constantly repent and constantly purify themselves. “ [Surah Al Baqarah, 2:222]

❑Repenting is extremely important to do all the time because humans are prone to mistakes some of which they realize and some of which they do not even realize.

❑This Surah explains the completion of the Prophet's message and its fulfillment.

❑In brief division, the Prophet dealt with two types of people before:

❑Oppressors who denied Islam and opressed the Muslims.

Over them Allah gave conquest and victory.

❑Disbelievers who simply denied

They started coming around to Islam and accepting it.

❑Both groups were dealt with in the Surah.

❑Because of the fulfillment of Allah's promise of victory to the Prophet (SAW), he is asked to thank Allah for it. He is also asked to seek forgiveness for any imperfections in his job completion.

Overall Explanation

❑This Surah also gives an explanation of how to deal with victory either in something small or big. You do not deal with victory by becoming proud and arrogant.

❑Instead, the correct way to deal with victory is to acknowledge Allah's perfection and glorify Him and ask for forgiveness. Meaning make yourself humble in front of Allah.

❑Victory is not an indication that you are good or perfect. It is an indication that Allah is.

Overall Explanation

❑Asking for Forgiveness is for both small mistakes and large sins. It is more important and necessary for large sins but no one can leave repenting.

❑The Prophet (SAW) said that Allah said:

"O Son of Adam, as long as you invoke Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind.

"O Son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and you then asked forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you.

"O Son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the Earth, and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it [too]."

Benefits of Forgiveness and Repentance

❑Allah loves to forgive and He loves those who ask to be forgiven.

❑A dua was taugh to us by the Prophet: "O Allah, You are the Most Forgiving and Kind, and you love forgiveness, so forgive me."

❑The first verse in the Quran gives the names of Allah "Al-Rahman" and "Al-Raheem"

❑Meaning the Most Merciful and Loving and the Always Merciful and Loving

❑The biggest fault in the pre-islamic religions was that they used to think they needed idols or people to bring them closer to Allah and closer to forgiveness.

❑The message of Islam was you do not need them. Allah Himself is the Most Merciful and Most-Forgiving. No one you try to find will match Allah's Mercy and Love

Benefits of Forgiveness and Repentance

❑Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, "Whoever has wronged his brother, should ask for his pardon (before his death), as (in the Hereafter) there will be neither a Dinar nor a Dirham. (He should secure pardon in this life) before some of his good deeds are taken and paid to his brother, or, if he has done no good deeds, some of the bad deeds of his brother are taken to be loaded on him (in the Hereafter)." (Sahih Bukhari)
