Theinteriorandexteriorofthechambersarecoveredwithaspecialcoating.Workingpressuresusuallyrangefrom50,70or100metresofseawater(msw)forsurface-supplieddivingactivitiesforairandmixedgasoperations.Chambersforself-propelledhyperbaric lifeboatswithworkingpressuresofupto 400msw can, however, also be provided for saturationdivingoperations.

For integration in existing systems, the chambers can besuppliedwith connectionflanges tofit anybell or auxiliarychamber. The support skid can be used to integrate thebreathing gas cylinders required to provide maximumoperational independence. Thepressurehull hasanumberof spare penetrators that allow additional systems to beinstalled.Alarge-sizemedicallockisastandardfeature.Viewportsallowobservationofbothcompartments.

The decompression chambers built by IHC Hytech areconsidered to be market leading and suitable for anyapplication. A standard decompression chamber comes with two compartments: the main chamber and an entrance lock.The chamber is skid-mounted and has large lifting lugs forincreased mobility. The tank will go wherever the divingoperationislocated.

ATELstandsforAttachableTransportableEntranceLock.Thisis an additional chamber compartment,which canbeusedin combinationwith the DART, allowing attendant entry totheDART.TheATELisprovidedwithaspecialSTANAGfemaleflange,whichmakesitpossibletolinktheATELtotheDART,creatingatwo-compartmentchamber.

DART and ATELIHC Hytech is the designer of a small lightweight decompression chamber – the DART (Diver Attendant RecompressionTransportable). This type of transportable decompressionchamber is large enough to accommodate two people (one patientandoneattendant).Duetoitsspecialshapeandsize,theDARTisspaciousenoughtoallowextendedtransportationortreatmenttimesifnecessary.

Compactand lightweight, theDART is ideal for transferringdivers under pressure to a hyperbaricmedical facility. It isfittedwitharotatingSTANAGmaleflange,whichallowsitto

Containerised DDC with machineryThis complete system (see the picture above and on page10/11)isbuiltina20ftcontainer.Inaddition,acompletetentcanbebuiltonthecontainerforcomfortwhileconnectingtheDARTtothe1,600mmDouble-lockDecompressionChamber(DDC) and for extra storage. The container is transportablebytruckorboat.Thecompressorisinstalledonaretractablefloorplateforeasierservicing.

Themainuseisincoastalareas.Thecontaineristransportedandstoredontheshipdeck,soitwithstandsseaconditions.The container is dust-, sand- andwaterproofwhen closed.Temperatureconditionscanvaryfrom-40°Cto+50°C.

Thisprojectcontainsthefollowing:• 1,600mm DDC• A-frame for connecting a DART to the decompression

chamber• air-conditioning• 10high-pressureairbottles,each50litres• fourhigh-pressureoxygenbottles,each50litres• high-pressure compressor• firefightingsystem• onecontrolpanel.

Wet bell on board of a ship

Wet bellTheWBHS3-100 is an open wet bell handling system thatallowsthreediverstoworkatadepthofupto100metres.This wet bell handling system can be integrated in a ship.The system consists of an open wet bell with an internaldiameterof 1,500mm (approximately 5ft), anA-framewithsheaves, a top frame with hydraulic winches to hoist the bell and its clumpweight, and a Dive Control Container (DCC).A dive control panel, and the controls for communication,illuminationandcamerasystemsareinsidetheDCC.Thebellis designed for strong current operations and is equippedwithanextraheavyclump.

The system can be completed with a containeriseddecompression chamber (20ft container), and variousadditionaldivingmaterialssuchashotwatersuits,ahotwatersupply unit, diving suits and helmets, and various underwater tools.

Toensurethesafedeploymentofdivers,IHCHytechdeliversseveraltypesofdiverhandlingsystems.

Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS)Diverscanbetransportedtoandfromthesubseaworksiteusing the LARS. This is a diver handling system designedforadivecagewith twodiversandtwo50-litreairbottles,withadeploymentdepthof100metres.Thedivingcontrolstationislocatedinoneofthecontainers.Deliveriesincludethe complete diving gear, such as helmet lights, video communicationand the surfaceumbilical connections. Twoversionsareavailable:anair-diveLARSandanair-diveLARSbasic.Theair-diveLARShasanextendableA-frame.

A smaller scrubber unit is also available. It is especiallysuitable for use inside smaller hyperbaric/decompression chamberswhere space is limited, suchas aDART. Theunithas a clamp that holds two CO2 adsorbent canisters. It hasabuilt-inelectricfan.Incaseofelectricfailure,itispossibleto connect a simple medical breathing mask and use thescrubberasalung-poweredunit.

Theheaterandscrubbermotorunitsarecompletelycasted.Environmentalconditions,suchasoxygenlevel,humidityorpressure,willnotaffect themotoratall.Themotor isverydependablebecauseofitsbrushlessdesign.Themotorspeedconfigurationcanbeeitherfixedorcontrollable.

Decontamination canisterIHC Hytech’s decontamination canister removes pollutionfrom a breathing gas in an enclosed environment other than CO2whenconnectedwiththeIHCHytechscrubberfanunit.The decontamination scrubber canister contains a specialblend of carbon molecular sieves and a catalyst, and is stored in an airtight container. Once the container is opened andthecanisterisexposedtotheenvironment,itstartstowork.Thespecialfillingmixtureofthecanisterremovesallkindofcontaminationcausedbyhumansinanenclosedenvironmentduetobreathing,vomit,urine,faecesandsweat.

In a small, enclosed tank it’s important to maintain theright environmental conditions. IHC Hytech designs andmanufacturesitsownheatersandscrubbers.Thebenefitsofthisequipmentinclude:• non-corrosive materials• highefficiency• low voltage DC• RPM control• encapsulatedmotor.

HeatersThe single and double heat exchangers are designed tocontrol the temperature inadeckdecompressionchamber.Thesingleheatexchangercanbeusedeitherforheatingorcooling the chamber atmosphere. The combi unit (doubleheatexchanger)consistsofaheatingandacoolingexchanger,andcanbeusedforbothsimultaneously.

ScrubbersTheCO2 scrubber unit is designed to remove CO2 from the atmosphere in a diving systemor decompression chamber.The scrubber unit consists of a fan that pulls air through acanisterfilledwithCO2 adsorbent, such as Sodasorb or soda lime.Thecanister isprovidedwithan internalfinemeshof0.3mm.Thispreventsoff-dustingofthesodalime.

Thepanel ismounted insidearuggedplasticcontainerandcontains a communicator, triple timer and independentHPandLPsupplies.Thedownstreampressureisadjustableandthesystemissuitableforair,nitrox,oxygenandtrimix.Threeseparate digital oxygenmeters are optional to analyse thebreathinggassupplyofthethreedivers.

SLT60 light helmet diving system The SLT60 is a surface-supplied diving system designed tosimultaneously support two divers conducting hard workto a depth of 60 msw, in order to carry out all manner of underwatertasks,includingconductingsurveys,maintenance,defectrectification,cuttingandweldingetc.

The Surface Demand Diving System SLT 60 has beenmanufacturedinaccordancewithCEregulations,theGermanstandard DIN 58642 for hose-supplied diving apparatus,as well as the 1993/2000 EN 250 HSE & NPD regulationsfor diving equipment. It also complies fully with the newEuropean standard for Surface Demand Diving Equipment.IHCHytechisregisteredwiththenotifiedbody,GermanischerLloyd,astheofficialmanufactureroftheSLT60lighthelmetdivingsystem.

IHC Hytech manufactures various kinds of mounted andportablecontrolpanelsforseveralapplications.By listeningto feedback from experienced colleagues and customers,IHCHytechdesignsthepanelssothattheyareeasytooperate.Itcanprovidecustomisedsolutions,suchasdetachedcontrolpanels, or control panels at the end or on the side of a decompressionchamber.

Dive control containerSeparate dive control containers, for diver handling systems for example, are equipped with the same easy-to-operatecontrolpanels.Everydiverhashisowncolour.TheIHCHytechdivecontrolcontainerisconfiguredtohousealltherequiredequipmentandcontrolsneededtorunthediveoperation.Adivergassupplypanelperformsanumberoftasks.Itsuppliesbreathing gas to the divers, monitors the depth of the divers andanalysesthecompositionofthebreathinggas.Usingthemonitors,theoperatorcanobservetheactivitiesofthediversandequipment.

Chamber communication and lightingEquipment used in hyperbaric conditions has specificrequirements.TheIHCHytech2102chambercommunicatoris a communication unit designed for hyperbaric chambersanddecom-pressiontanks.Theunitcanbemounted in theoperatingpanel.Theoperatorcantalktothemainchamber,entrancelockorboth.

TheIHCHytechhighbrightnessbelllightcanbeusedasamainorsecondarylightingsysteminsideahyperbaricenvironment.TheLEDbelllightwithstandspressuresupto500msw(1640fsw). Itcanbeusedinoxygen-richatmospheres,wetordryenvironmentsandheliumenvironments.

Good and reliable communication is an important aspectof surface-supplied diving. IHC Hytech can providecommunication units to perform the job: rack-mounted orportable, digital or analogue, helium unscramblers, electret ordynamicmicrophones,andsoon.

Diving communication and lightingTheIHCHytechdivingcommunicatorshavebeendesignedtoprovideareliablemethodofcommunication.Diverscanbeconnectedtothecommunicationunitusingafour-corecablewithfourbananaplugs.Whenpressingthe“PRESSTOTALK”switch, both divers can be addressed through the speaker,whichalsoservesasamicrophone.Thecommunicatorshaveabuilt-inbattery,aswellasamainspowerconnectionandanexternalbatterypowerconnection.Whilethemainssupplyisconnected,theinternalbatteryisautomaticallycharged.Thebuilt-in battery allows the communicator to be in stand-bymodeforupto72hours.Thediverconnectionsareseparatedfrom the rest of the system to ensure the divers can never be exposedtoadangeroushigh-voltagecurrent.

Portable or helmet-mounted camera and lighting providesgoodvisualsupport.TheIHCHytechcameracanbemountedonKirbyMorganhelmetsandbandmasks.Thecamera isacompactunit,connectedtothesurfacewithasinglecable.Inaddition,theIHCHytechLEDhelmetlightcanbeusedasadedicated camera light or as a general source of underwater lighting.

Fathom Systems iGA – intelligent gas analysers Thenecessityforthehighestlevelsofsafetyisreflectedinthemanufacturing quality of these instruments and the design, whichincorporatesanumberofdistinctivefeatures:• the highly accurate O2 and CO2 analysers are accuracy

compliant with DNV-OS-E402 to a maximum workingdepth of 300msw

• theparamagnetic sensorused in thehighaccuracyO2 is notaconsumable,eliminatingtheneedtopurchase,store,transport and manage replacement fuel cells

• analyser accuracy is optimised by maintaining constantgasflow,keepingthesensoratconstanttemperatureandapplyingbarometriccompensation

• multi-colouredvisualandspokenalarms• analyserdisplaysshowpercentageandpartialpressureof

oxygen, calculatedby factoring indepth fromapressuresensor,existingdepthdataonthenetworkorbymanualinput.Most analysers show surface equivalent (SE) %O2 values, which do not reference chamber depth, so alarm pointsmustbecalculatedandthenadjustedmanuallybythe operator to compensate for depth change. Analysers are an important instrument for an operator to monitorthesafetyofthedivers.IHCHytechmanufacturesanddelivers several high-quality analysers for various monitoring tasks.

IHC Hytech O2/CO2 analyserThe IHCHytechO2/CO2 analyser is designed to monitor the atmosphere inside hyperbaric chambers. The analyser hastwoflowmeterswithcontrolvalves,whichallowtheflowtothe O2 and CO2sensorstobeadjustedseparately.

Theanalyserhasfouralarmsthatconsistofalightsignalandanaudiblesignal.TheO2sensorhasalow(<19%)andahigh(>23%) alarm. The CO2 sensor has two high alarms, set at 0.2%andat0.5%.Whileanalarmisactive,theaudiblesignalcanbemuted,butthevisualsignalwillremainactiveuntiltheO2 or CO2levelthattriggeredthealarmisbackinasaferange.

A single oxygen analyser is also available. This analysermeasures the oxygen partial pressure and the oxygenconcentrationingasmixturesandair.

ManifoldsIn its decompression chambers, diving panels, life-support panels, hydraulic units, reducer systems and all other pressure systems, IHCHytechmakesextensiveuseofmanifolds.Anyconnection fitting in a pressure system poses a potentialleakagerisk.Intheolddays,forinstance,divingpanelswereconstructed using countless fittings, connections, valves,adaptersandotherplumbing.Leakswereamajorproblem.A manifold is usually a solid bar of suitable material, which hasmostvalvesandconnectionsconcentratedinit.Gooduseofmanifoldsreducesupto90%offittings,andthereforetheleakagerisk.Afurtheradvantageisthatmanifoldsmakethe

The reducer is fitted with a trackingport.Whenthisoptionisused,thereducerwillautomaticallyadjusttheouputpressurerelativetothepressureconnectedtothetrackingport.

Flow fuseTheIHCHytechflowfusecanbeincludedinasysteminordertoprotectanair/gasbankfromrunningempty,forexamplewhenahosebreaks.Theflowfuseissetforamaximumflowof 150m3/hr,ataworkingpressureof30bars(440psi).Incasethemaximumflowisexceeded,thefusewillcloseinstantly.If the pressure behind the fuse remains low, it won’t open again. BIBS manifoldsA special version is the BIBS (Built-In Breathing System)manifold. This is designed to supply oxygen duringtreatment in a decompression chamber. All manifolds willbe mounted inside the decompression chamber with a shut-off valve located direct on the vessel’s skin. This valve isnotanoperationalvalve,butashut-offvalve toenable theoccupantstoclosethesupplyofoxygen.Thehullpenetrationplate is specially designed to supply and support the manifold blocks. Quick connectors with a shut-off valve inside areusedtopreventuncontrolledoxygenflow.Whenthehoseisdisconnected,thevalvecloses.

SilencersIHC Hytech silencers provide a significant decrease innoise level, both inside and outside of decompression and hyperbaricchambers.Thesilencersdonotobstructairflow,they only reduce noise by eliminating turbulence. This is ahugeadvantageoversinteredbronzefiltersthatcancorrode,become obstructed, and eventually be blown to pieces by air pressure. Another advantage of IHC Hytech silencers isthepossibilitytodirectairflowformixingfreshairwiththechamberatmospheresufficiently.Thesilencerscanbeusedbothinsideandoutsidethetankintheexhaustlines,andtheyareavailablewitharangeofconnections.
