HISTORY:Barry Bennett, born in 1931, began manufacturing hollow plywood surfboard and skis

in the early 1950’s at Waverley in the Easter Suburbs of Sydney as a part time business. In 1956,after the introduction of the short 10’6” plywood hollow Malibu; production began on a fulltime basis, yet production was limited to five boards per week. In 1958, the production was moved to Harbord, near Freshwater Beach. At this time balsa board production numberrs rose to ten custom orders per week.Bennett Surfboards Pty Ltd was formed in 1960 which saw the first factory built exclusively for the manufacture of surfboards and blanks on Harbor Road, Brookvale. With five employees, all top surfers of that era, production numbers rose to forty-five boards per week, using poly-urethane blanks molded on the Harbord premises. Balsa was phased out in 1960 when Ure-thane production began in the same year. 1962 saw the formation of Dion Chemicals, a division of Bennett Surfboards, which stillto this day is responsible for the manufacturing of high quality polyurethane foam surfboardblanks, as well as importing and supplying high quality resins and other materials to local andoverseas markets. Barry Bennett is very highly respected within the Surfboard industry and is consideredby many as one of Australia’s Surfboard Industry pioneers. He still today, can be found workingblowing blanks in the Brookvale factory.

INTRODUCTION:In February 2006, Bennett Foam USA was established and keeping with the tradition

of Bennett Surfboards, our company is a family owned operation. We are privileged to haveBarry Bennett join forces with us and to provide us with his expertise in the entire process of blank manufacturing. For the past few months, his top workers have worked side by side withus, teaching us all the tricks of the trade. As an end result, our factory is fully operational with the capacity for future growth to meet the demands of the market. We are all totally committedto producing high quality blanks in a timely fashon. Bennet Foam USA is using exclusively the Bennett A & B formula which is manufacturedby Dion Chemicals (Bennett Aust.) in Australia. Barry’s formula has been perfected over the last 45 years. His formula is known for it’s whiteness, small cell structure, consistant density, and lightness. At this time we will be offering three different foam densities; Supalite, Supa Supalite, and Ultralite. Eventually we will add a Lite formula to our list. Our Plug Library consists of manyof Barry’s own popular plugs in addition to many historical and new plugs by very popularAmerican shapers. The company also offers custom rockers and custom stringers.

BLANK PICTURES: The blanks specifications presented in this catalog are all drawn to the scale of the blank. The rocker presented is the natural rocker. The cross section of the blank shows the rail lines andthickness at the mid, nose, and tail sections.

MEASUREMENTS: The measurements of the blanks are given in English Units followed by Metric Units.

BLANK INFORMATION:Length: Both the overall bottom length and the tip to tip deck length are given.Maximum width and thickness: These measurements help to determine where the blanks

wide point is and the maximum thickness of the blank in relation to the center point of the blank. Displacement: This is the cubic feet and meters of foam in the unshaped stringerless blank. The shaper uses this figure to indicate the overall thickness profile of the blank. Some new blanks in the catalog state “pending” in this column. These are brand new plugs and this calculation will be completed in the near future.

History: This information lists the date the plug originated. The historical plugs were used by Clark Foam/Bennett originals are from Bennett Aust., and the rest are new.

Shaped by: The original shaper or shaper’s of the plug.Rocker: All blanks are available with the natural rocker listed in the catalog. This

information will be updated constantly. All blanks are also available in your custom rocker at no additional charge. Natural rockers can also be adjusted to your specifications by either adding or deleting specific measurements. To list changes to the natural rockers please follow the following procedures. Location: “N” list the Nose section of the blank. “T” list Tail section of the blank. Adding inches: Use the “+” (plus sign) to indicate and increase in inches. Subtracting inches: Use the “-” (subtraction sign) to indicate a decrease in inches. Example: + 1/2” N/- 1/4“ T This means add 1/2” to the nose rocker and subtract 1/4” from the tail rocker. This is taken from the natural rocker of the blank. Personal Rocker: Once this is done you will be assigned a rocker number and your rocker will be added to the Rocker Library.

BLANK INFORMATION CONT.:

Rocker Library: The Bennett Foam USA Rocker Library will be available to all customers. We strongly suggest looking very closely at each rocker listed for each specific blank before you submit your new specification. Blanks per box: This lists the amount of blanks which fit in a box and the size of box recommended.

Blanks per container: This lists the amount of blanks which normally fit into a 20’ container or a 40’ container. Naturally these quantities vary with the mix of different styles of blanks. Foam Densities: Bennett USA offers three foam density’s they are as follows: Blue: Supalite (heaviest of the three density, more classic formula) Green: Supa Supalite (most popular density, very lite with longevity) Yellow: Ultralite (the lightest density very high performance) In the future: Red: (the heaviest density available, tow ins, paddle boards, etc.)

Stringer Information: Bennett USA offers many custom stringer applications and sizing. We currently offer Bass 1/8” in our base price. Besides Bass wood we also offer Red Cedar.
