What does our fi nest instrument have in common with armor-piercing ammunition?

They are both equipped with one of the hardest alloys available – Tungsten Carbide.

Tungsten Carbide adds several advantages to your instrument whether there is a need for a hard and durable sharpness or you are looking for a long lasting cost effective instrument. This special alloy hold the sharpness of the instrument up to 5 times longer compared to conventional instruments. This feature, compared to the extra initial cost for a Tungsten Carbide instrument, will provide a very cost effective solution for your surgical instruments. The properties of this alloy have also benefi ted the special cross patterns that can be found on the needle holders, rendering a much more secure needle grip. Tungsten Carbide inserts are only applied (usually glued or welded) to the usable surface of the instrument which provide the right fl exibility to the instruments but with a superior hardness where the action is.

All instruments with Tungsten Carbide inserts are recognized with gold plated handles.

All scissors with Super Cut are recognizedwith their black handles.

Super Cut

The Super Cut scissor has a unique design that delivers precise and accurate cuts, even through the toughest tissue. The Super Cut technique is made out of two unique blades, one with a fi ne serrated edge that holds the tissue and prevents slippage. The other blade has a razor sharp edge that provides the cutting.

Dumont SA located in Switzerland has been producing the world’s fi nest microsurgical forceps for more than 125 years. This is a handcrafting process where each forceps point is made and adjusted by hand, part by part. There are several different alloys for each forceps model, each one with its own characteristics. These are the most commonly used within the medical fi eld.

INOX – A medical stainless steel that provides an excellent resistance to corrosion, and temperature up to 400º C. This alloy is magnetic and suitable for autoclave sterilisation.

DUMOXEL – This alloy is patented by Dumont and offers the best resistance to corrosion,mineral and organic acids due to high concentration of molybdenum and chromium. Dumoxel is 95% non magnetic and resistant up to 400º C and suitable for autoclave sterilisation.

DUMOSTAR – Dumont’s fi nest alloy. This patented Dumont alloy is more elastic and more resistant to corrosion than the fi nest stainless steel. It is resistant to minerals, organic acidsas well to salt. Dumostar is 100 % non magnetic and resistant up to 500º C.

TITANIUM – Totally resistant to corrosion from nitric acid, chlorides and salt water. Titanium is not as hard as Inox but 40% lighter and more fl exible. It is 100 % non magnetic and resistantto temperatures around 430º C.

CARBON STEEL – Is an extremely hard alloy which ensures very strong tips. It easily rusts, is magnetic and cannot be autoclaved.

Forceps in Brass, Nickel and Ceramic tips are also available.

The Dumont tips in this chapter are measured in A X B in mm, see picture

Dumont #5 is the most widely sold forceps and is available with different tips. These are the most commonly used tips, each available in different alloys.

Small blood vessel Cannulation System

This biocompatible micro cannula system with trocar is designed for fast and easy

insertion in to small blood vessels. The tubing has a bulb for securing the tubing

cannula to the vessel by tie-in with a thread. The cannula has a female luer hub for attachment to a syringe.

Our animal Feeding Needles are designed to meet the needs of pharmacologists, toxicologists, pathologists and other biomedical researchers. These Feeding Needles are mostly used for dosing and oral feeding of laboratory animals, but the stainless steel needles can also be used for Intracardiac Perfusion procedures. The unique ball design of the needle tip ensures insertion with minimal risk of puncturing vital organs.

The disposable Feeding Needles are designed for critical applications, and the needles are delivered in sterile pouches with plastic luer hub and silicon tips. Two kinds are available; Malleable Metal and Tefl on tubing. The malleable metal type can easily be formed to any desired angle or shape. The Tefl on type is very fl exible and ensures that no damage occurs during the insertion.

FEP-Tubing

FEP TEFLON tubing is inert, clear and with small internal diameter. There is a strict correlation between the length of the tubing and the internal volume. The tubing is used to connect micro-dialysis probes, syringes, liquid switches, swivels and other components in a microdialysis system. Supplied non sterile.

PEEK-Tubing

Tubing Adapters

These fl anged tubing adapters are made for safe connection between tubing, switch or swivel. The adapters are capable of adapting tubing and cannulas with an outer diameter of 0,60-0,80 mm. They are made of polyurethane and should be soaked a few minutes in 70% alcohol prior to use. They will then slide over steel or plastic tubing and shrink when the alcohol evaporates. This makes a tight and leakproof connection. Box of 10.

Bonewax

Sterile wax for bone hemostasis. Bone wax is a sterile mixture of bees wax, almond oil and salicylic acid and is used to control bleeding on bone surface in thoracic, orthopedic and oral surgery as well as neurosurgery. Andis Rodent Shaver

KL 200 – Cold Light Illumination System

The KL 200 suits most laboratory requirements of detailed and accurate illumination, and is ideal for small animal surgery. It is small, compact and the brightness can be set in 3 steps. Available with one or two fl exible swan-neck light guide arms or a 6-point ring illuminator, where the 2-guide version is by far the most sold.

Stereomicroscope

The SM3A is an affordable stereomicroscope very suitable for small animal surgery. It includes a binocular head, a pair of eyepieces, integral 12V 10W spot illuminator and three inter-changeable lenses providing magnifi cations of 10, 20 and 35 times. It has a 280 mm articulated arm that is adjustable in height and viewing angle and also provides a 180º rotation.

The SM3A offers a very affordable stereomicroscope solution with a small footprint.

Sterilizer

The hot bead sterilizers permits instant sterilization of surgicalinstruments directly at the workplace. The working temperature of the glass beads is 250º C and it sterilizes in 10 seconds. After 30 seconds the sterilized parts are cool enough for use.

The exterior stays cool even at the end of a full days work. It is especially suitable in laminar fl ow cabinets and meets NIH guidelines. 8 or 14 cm glass bead depth.

Microdialysis

We have a wide range of microdialysis probes with different shaft lengths

for both CNS and peripheral tissue. Standard probes as well as custom

made with membrane cut off from 6000 Dalton up to 100 000 Dalton.

We also have different types of guide cannulas for chronic experi-

ments and accessories as Liquid Switch, In Vitro Stand, Plastic Vials

and Caps, Microdialysis Syringes and the much appreciated U-820

Refrigerated Microsampler.

Pumps

AgnTho's has a wide range of pumps for various applications as microdialysis, micro-

Stereotaxic Equipment

Stereotaxic surgical techniques are based on the fact that the vari-

ous parts of the brain have a defi nite and predictable location with

respect to the surrounding parts of the skull. A stereotaxic instru-

ment is a device which permits precise and accurate location of an

electrode or cannula in a small structure of the brain. AgnTho’s has
