What is the Internet?
The Internet is a massive network of networks. It connects millions of computers together globally.
The World Wide Web is a way of accessing information over the Internet.
What can I do on the Internet?
Find information Communicate (i.e. email, IM, Skype) Share (upload and share pictures and more) Shop (the web is the world’s biggest
shopping mall!) Play (you can play games on the web)

Ways of Navigating to a Site 1. Typing in the web address –
as every page on the Internet has an unique address
2. Using links – Surrey Libraries has a great list
3. Using a search engine (i.e. Google or Bing)
Parts of a Web Address Every web page has an address,
sometimes called a URL URL stands for Uniform Resource
Locator http:// stands for hypertext
transfer protocol www stands for ‘World Wide
Web’ The domain name is the name of
the site – i.e. surreylibraries The extension is the type of
site: .com, .ca, .org

Filter image results by their size, type and colour.
