survey123 workflow poster
TRANSCRIPT
Survey123 – Tree InventoryThe Survey123 mobile app enables authors to create mobile forms with a variety of functionalities so users can capture spatial data that is rich with attributes. Various functionalities enable users to move through the survey more efficiently than if using a paper form. Among the functionalities that can be pre-coded in the xform, these are particularly useful for tree inventories:
• Cascade select – narrow choice lists in successive questions• New questions can appear based on answers to the previous question• An image of the chosen object can appear for confirmation of answer choice
This poster focuses on a workflow for publishing and hosting Surveys using ArcGIS Online.
*All clients must have an Esri Organizational Account and join a GeoMobile group*

(2) GISCNR can deliver the extracted file to the client.
(3) Clients may elect to have GISCNR deliver the data in a geodatabase with domains defined to match the collected data. This feature class can then be used with collector or can be imported to another geodatabase.

About City Tree Inventories
Trees planted in and around cities and towns provide many benefits. Economic, environmental, and energy saving functions of trees have substantial impacts on community well-being. Here is a short list of benefits that communities get from having healthy, thriving urban forests:
Cooling of infrastructure
Decreased evaporation from streams
Air and water filtration
Carbon offsets
Aesthetically pleasing
Blocking of unsightly views
Increase property values
Food production
Soil stabilization
Increase business traffic in downtown areas
Tree plantings enhance community involvement
Oregon and the U.S. in general have many programs that include trees as an essential component of healthy ecosystems and communities. These four organizations are very prominent among them:
Not only do trees provide many benefits, a Tree Inventory helps cities maintain the trees in a safe and healthy manner. A GIS inventory allows storage of abundant information about the trees:
• Where is the tree in question?• What kind of tree is that?• Whose tree is it?• Who is responsible for maintaining the tree?• Is the tree showing signs of disease or infestation?• When was the tree planted?• When was the tree last pruned?• Is the tree broken?
Canopy cover indicates how much environmental benefit we get from the city’s trees and this can be calculated quickly if a tree inventory is implemented.
Tying it all together…
Policy: enhance livability and community health
Action: maintain a healthy tree population
Tools: GIS and Survey123
Following your city’s tree policies and taking action is easily achieved using GISCNR’s Survey123 app!

About Survey123
Survey123 was developed by Esri. As of March, 2017, this app can
1) only be used to collect point data2) does not allow editing existing features3) can be used with high precision gps software & devices4) is supported by ArcGIS Online or Portal for Arc
Esri has planned to release version 2.0 in April, 2017. This version will provide the ability to edit existing data collected with Survey123 and allows editing the survey form to be republished without loss of existing data.
