To help determine my target audience, I designed a survey, which focused on giving me an idea as to the age and type of person who would watch my music video.

Out of the 17 people asked, 9 were female, and 8 were male. This is to be taken into consideration when looking at my results, as slightly more women answered then men.

Out of all 17 people asked, 16 were between 16 – 21 and one person was aged 41+This is helpful as my main age group is aimed towards 16 – 21, with an anomalous result of 41+

Asking this to find out where my main audience lies, clearly the majority of my audience are students and part time employed students.

This means my video will need to fit to the majority of this demographic.

Clearly, the most popular genre here is Rock, with indie just before it. With my song being a mix between indie and folk, I know that my video is aimed at an almost niche audience in that age group.

This is useful information when for when I later look at where people find their music videos, as I know where my video should be aimed towards.

My target audience clearly goes to YouTube to find their music videos, and on the rare occasion they watch television. This means that my video should me uploaded to YouTube and marketed on that website.

Looking at this, my target audience like a hybrid mix between 2 types of music video. My idea incorporates a hybrid between narrative and concept. So this confirms my idea is going in the right direction

65% of the people asked have heard of Newton Faulkner and 18% say he sounds familiar.

However, 55% of people do not listen to his music at all, with only 8% listening to him regularly, if at all.

My audience want their age represented and their current social issues represented. 35% of my participants selected other, but did not specify what they had meant.

Many of the people who would see a newton faulkner music video would prefer to see a Narrative Concept, or a mix of all 3 types. This just shows my idea is heading in the right direction.

In conclusion to my survey, I know that my video will be more widely viewed by my audience should it be uploaded to YouTube, I also know that my video is within a niche group of people between the ages of 16 – 21 where it is most popular.

I know my video to appease my audience must be a narrative/concept hybrid, which follows my original idea anyway.
