8.PREPARATION

GN 1 - Preparation of suspension from green fluorescent powder (fresh powder NP 2221-273 and regenerated powder NP 2221-273R).

GENERALA.In view of ageing effects the basic suspension must not be stored for more than 2 weeks.

The suspension can be prepared as required by proportionating the quantities of chemicals and fluorescent powder and of course by using the appropriate equipment.

B.During flu-powder addition by means of vacuum quite a lot of foam is produced. To prevent the foam from getting in the vacuum line, either prepare less suspension or discontinue powder supply for a short time and break the foam by alternately admitting air and evacuating.

C.Criteria for stirring during dispersion.

The powder must not settle. To prevent settling, especially when dry powder is used, the speed of the stirrer must be higher (orientation speed: 40 r.p.m.) than e.g. in a storage tank. Especially when large quantities of suspension are to be prepared the shape of the stirrer and that of the vessel must well match.

Sieve half a litre of basic suspension through a Russell vibratory sieve with 1 layer of 15 2 m nylon gauze and correct it till it fullfils the dispensing requirements. Next determine:

DISPENSING SUSPENSIONPrior to use, pass suspension through Russell vibratory sieve with 1 layer of 15 2 m nylon gauze.

The dispensing suspension is composed of reclaimed suspension and basic suspension.

The mixing ratio shall be such that a state of balance is attained; starting from a certain quantity of dispensing suspension such a quantity of basic suspension will have to be added to the reclaimed suspension that (after correction of density and viscosity) the starting quantity of dispensing suspension is obtained again.

Mix suspsensions and correct mixture until it satisfies the following requirements:

-Viscosity at 20 C (Epprecht)

corresponds with cup A/position III, 50 Hz

If necessary increase viscosity by adding PVAl-solution (5.4%); per litre of PVAl-solution add amm. ADC-solution (16.6%).

If necessary decrease viscosity by adding deionized water.

-Density (local choice, depending on phosphor weight)

If necessary lower the density by adding diluent; per litre diluent add amm. ADC-solution (16.6%)

RECLAIMED SUSPENSIONThe excess suspension which is expelled from the flowcoating mill is to be collected in a tank with stirrer (e.g. storage trolley).

Because of the lower pH-value of the reclaimed suspension, mix it with basic suspension as soon as possible.
