Monday29 farm tour 29Jones Farm owners Chris & Carolyn Jones have a long history of farming. In the late 1970’s, they were the largest minority feeder-pig operators in northeast Mississippi. Their farming enterprise has evolved from
feeder-pigs (and row crop production of soybeans and corn), to their current cow-calf and vegetable production operation. They currently operate on approximately 200 acres of pasture-land in two counties in northeast Mississippi. They have worked with the Mississippi Minority Farmers Alliance, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and other agencies to establish a demonstration farm in Monroe County Mississippi. The Jones’ work highlights their commitment to conservation. In their efforts to be good stewards of the land, they have worked with NRCS to install several conservation initiatives on their farm, some of which include: cross-fencing; rotational grazing systems; a stream-bank crossing; a watering facility; high tunnel initiatives, and ponds.

J. Latrice Hill was selected to serve as the National Director of Outreach for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in 2013. As Director, she establishes program outreach policy and maintains oversight of FSA outreach activities nationwide.
Hill began her federal career as a county office clerk with FSA, formerly known as the Farmers Home Administration. She later served in the positions of loan officer and district outreach coordinator where she was responsible for determining feasibility,

With a strong background in communications and a passion for serving others, Hill was later selected to serve as the FSA State Public Relations and Outreach Specialist, overseeing outreach activities in 71 counties. While in Mississippi, Hill was appointed by two U.S. Secretaries of Agriculture to serve on the National Advisory Committee for Beginning Farmers and Ranchers for three, two-year terms.
Hill has received several awards and recognition for her collaborations and work with rural farmers, organizations and students. Her notable accomplishments include the Emerson Congressional Hunger Center’s Policy Leadership Award, Secretary’s Award for work with local and regional food systems, Administrator’s Team Award for Farm Bill Outreach, and many others.
A native of Mississippi, Hill earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Belhaven University. She maintains residences in Virginia and Mississippi.
