Your local guide will await you at Istanbul airport. Group transfer to the hotel (if individual arrivals, surcharges will

apply). Dinner at the hotel or a local restaurant, a nice occasion to meet your fellow travellers. Overnight in Istanbul.

Linking Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait in north-western Turkey, the country’s capital city of Istanbul is

a beguiling cultural blend of East and West. Visit the twin architectural gems of Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque –

masterpieces of Byzantine design, decorated with exquisite inlaid mosaic patterns; take in the lavish quarters and

dazzling gem collection of the Topkapi Palace, home to Turkey’s sultans and their families for centuries; or visit the

enthralling Basilica Cistern, Istanbul’s ancient water reservoir, now evocatively revamped with ethereal lighting and

background music sources. More frivolous pursuits include trawling the Grand Bazaar’s stash of beautifully crafted

goods for traditional Turkish kilims and wooden backgammon boards inlaid with mother-of-pearl detail or indulging

in fine dining or Mediterranean meze at one of the many eateries in trendy Beyoglu.

Overnight: Best Western Hotel Plus The President Hotel

adjacent to tourist, entertainment and shopping areas. The air-conditioned rooms are spacious and include heating,

Day 3: Best Western Hotel Plus The President Hotel, Istanbul

    (Sun, 19 April)

    Day Itinerary

After breakfast departure to the historical peninsula of Istanbul, former Constantinople. City tour including a visit to

the Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture from the 6th century. We will also visit one of the

amazing Cisterns, one of several hundred built beneath Constantinople in the 6th century to supply water to the

city. We will learn about the spectacular games once held at the Hippodrome and see the Blue Mosque. In the

afternoon, we will drive along the impressive Theodosian city walls built in the 5th century and recognized as one of

the most effective defensive structures in history. You will notice many leather shops, the tanneries have been

moved from here only a few years ago, but the shops remained. We will also see some “bostan”, small agricultural

fields loved by the locals, where fruit and vegetable is still grown and have a panoramic tour of the Golden Horn.

Evening for leisure or optional program. Overnight in Istanbul.

    Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia occupies a prominent place in the history of art and architecture. It is one of the rare works of this size

and age that has survived to our day. It is dedicated to Divine Wisdom. The outer appearance is not elegant; it was

built as a shell, without much care for proportions. On the other hand, the interior is as splendid and captivating as a

palace. As a whole, it is an "imperial" structure. Among the major restorations at later times were the buttresses

built by architect Sinan in the 16th century and the restoration by the Fossatti brothers in 1947-49. Hagia Sophia was

converted into a museum by Ataturk order in 1935 after three years of restorations.

    Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque (called Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish) is an historical mosque in Istanbul. The mosque is known as

the Blue Mosque because of blue tiles surrounding the walls of interior design. Mosque was built between 1609 and

1616 years, during the rule of Ahmed I. just like many other mosques, it also comprises a tomb of the founder, a

madrasa and a hospice. Besides still used as a mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has also become a popular tourist

    attraction in Istanbul.

    Byzantine Hippodrome

The idea for the hippodrome originally came from Emperor Septimius Severus in 203. He came to Byzantium to beat

down a rebellion in a Roman civil war, after which he raised the city walls, slaughtered most of the inhabitants, and

introduced an arena for chariot races and other entertainment. But it wasn't until the arrival of Emperor Constantine

the Great in 324 that the hippodrome got its final shape. One of his greatest accomplishments was the renovation

and enlargement of the existing hippodrome. The new u-shaped track was about 450 meters long and 130 meters

wide, surrounded by a stadium with a capacity of approximately 100.000. Constantine also connected the emperor's

box (kathisma) to the then nearby Byzantine Great Palace via a passage which could only be used by the emperor

    and his family.

Day 5: Spa Hotel Colossae Thermal, Pamukkale (Tue, 21 April)

    Day Itinerary

While driving through the fertile hinterland, you will notice the importance of agriculture in this area. We will visit a

family owned, but large dairy farm using drone technology (for fodder production) and see vast vineyards on our

way to one of the unique natural wonders in the world, Pamukkale (meaning Cotton Castle). Hot thermal springs

cascading downhill have created a one of a kind landscape resembling a frozen waterfall. Mankind has realized the

curing means of this unique source early in history. Thus, the ancient spa town of Hierapolis evolved. It became one

of the early Christian Centres of the world. Upon arrival in Pamukkale, we will visit the amazing travertine terraces

and the ancient city including the spring and ancient pool, where the original columns can be seen in the water.

Dinner and overnight in Pamukkale (Karahayit).

In Turkey’s Aegean region, north of Denizli, you’ll find Pamukkale: justifiably one of the most historically relevant and

visually arresting places in the country. Over millennia, the calcium oxide-rich waters flowing down the slope of

  • P a g e | 8 Caldag to the north of the village, gradually built up deposits of white travertine on the plateau below, dotted with

no less than 17 hot springs. The pale splendour of Pamukkale, or ‘Cotton Castle’ as it is dubbed, is visible from the

town of Denizli, a full 20 kilometres away. Together with Hierapolis (the ancient city on which it was built, with its

ruins still visible today), Pamukkale has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Make sure to see the ancient

ruins of Aphrodisias and Laodicea and, as day-tripping crowds dwindle, spectacular sunsets over the snow-coloured

    mineral terraces.

    Overnight: Spa Hotel Colossae Thermal

The Spa Hotel Colossae Thermal is perfectly located 5 km from Pamukkale and just a few minutes from the ancient

city ruins and the travertines of Pamukkale. The hotel boasts comfortable rooms and suites with modern amenities

including minibars, safes, air conditioning and LCD TVs. 24-hour room service is available. The hotel's restaurant and

bar are well suited for special celebrations such as cocktails, dinners and anniversaries. Guests can enjoy

rejuvenating treatments in the beauty and wellness centre. The hotel features a garden which is ideal for activities

and games such as football, basketball, table tennis and swimming.

    Hierapolis

Hierapolis, whose name means "sacred city," was believed by the ancients to have been founded by the god Apollo.

It was famed for its sacred hot springs, whose vapors were associated with Pluto, god of the underworld. The city

also had a significant Jewish community and was mentioned by Paul in his Letter to Colossians.

Today, Hierapolis is a World Heritage Site and popular tourist destination. In addition to interesting Classical ruins,

the site offers a thermal Sacred Pool in which you can swim with ancient artefacts, a view of the spectacular white

terraces of Pamukkale, and a good museum.

  • P a g e | 14 Bosphorus Cruise. Thereafter you will have time to explore the mazes of the world famous Grand Bazaar, the former

    Spice Bazaar

The Spice Bazaar or Egyptian Bazaar is one of the oldest and the second largest covered shopping complex after the

Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. The building's construction was completed in 1663 and has an "L" shape. Once all of the

shops in the bazaar used to sell spices, but over the time some have turned into jewellers, dried fruit, grocery,

    carpet, ceramic, trinket shops. Around the Bazaar there is a popular flower market and cafes on the Yeni camii side;

fish, vegetable and grocery stores occupy the other side.

    Topkapi Palace Museum

Topkapi literally means "the Cannon Gate", so called because of the twin towered povilion on the sea side was

surrounded with cannons. Topkapi palace is the second palace constructed by Mehmet II. The Topkapi Palace was

the official and primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans. It was a setting for state occasions and royal

entertainments and is a major tourist attraction today.

    Bosphorus Strait

Bosphorus is one of the two straits separating two continents: Asia and Europe; and connects two seas : the Black

Sea and The Marmara Sea. Bosphorus and its shores are the most beautiful part of Istanbul. Gyllius eloquently

describes it as "The first creator of Byzantium, greater and more important than Byzas, the legendary founder of the

    city".

The strait is about 30 km long and from 670 meters wide at the most narrow part very close to the Rumeli Castle,

over three and half kilometres at its widest part. The average deepness of the strait is 50-60 meters and very close to

the Faith Bridge its deepness reaches to 120 meters. The surface current of the water is 3 to 5 km per hour from

Black Sea towards Marmara Sea. And about 35 - 40 meters below the surface a subcurrent exists.
