Dear Parents and Carers

What a wonderful day we had

yesterday; perfect weather, a

large crowd of supporting family

members and our students

having a go. I thoroughly enjoyed

watching all the events and

talking with as many folk as I

could, given I was holed up

behind the microphone most of

the day. Thanks to everyone

concerned, especial ly Mr

Tompkins who carries the

organisational load each year.

We have another spate of head

lice and I have sent notes home to

each family. Please check your

children's’ hair thoroughly and

make sure you get rid of the eggs.

One of the staff members had

head lice a couple of weeks ago, so

we all need to be vigilant.

Parking in Rhine Way is a

problem and will probably always

be a problem. The land beyond

the security fence belongs to the

Mundaring Shire. It is illegal to

park on the verge of houses

opposite the marked bays. That

is the law and I cannot change it.

I am sorry that some parents

were given cautions after the

athletics carnival. I spoke with a

Shire officer and she said parents

were not fined, they were

cautioned.

Cheers

Marg

CHAMPIONS READ! The winners of our Book Week “WORK DISPLAY” are: Joseph Butler

(A7), Te Oueroa Hoete-Raharaha (C1), Jovic Lana (C6), Kaylee Eades

(C6), Kyle Edney (C6), Taylor Lupton (LA1), Taya Woods (A1), Tia

Hancock (A1). Congratulations to our Book Week Competition

winners. They areKayla Eades C6,

Katherine Martin (Kindy 2), and

Kaitlin Hodgson (C4).

All these winners were presented

with their prizes at the School

Assembly on 12th September.

Well done everyone.

What a treat we had on Wednesday 5th September. Approximately

150 students were entertained by

Year 9 Drama students from Swan

View Senior High School. Creative

performances of four books FLOOD, LOOK! A BOOK, A BUS CALLED

HEAVEN and NO BEARS were acted out for us, with some of our own

ex-students shining as actors.

I have included some comments made by the audience. Comments: I

liked “Look a Book!” because it was very funny. I have never seen a

better play in all of my life. Jazzie (B1). I liked “No Bears” because

the girl was telling her story and she kept on saying “There are no

bears in my story”, but there was a bear all along. Favour Iloh (B1).

The most effective play was “No Bears”. It had the most expression in

it. Bree Hancock (A1). The most creative play was about the book “Look a Book!” how you had the

story being read to us as the story was happening. Very creative! Vanessa Sunjich (A1).

Smith Family, Midland Office, has just confirmed

that there exists an additional twenty plus new

‘Learning for Life Scholarships’ for eligible

students attending primary schools in our area.

These scholarships are awarded to families in

need, providing financial support to pay for

stationery, excursions and uniforms. Ultimately,

the Smith Family aims for all students to have a

minimum 90% attendance rate, which

demonstrates a commitment to schooling.

Families need to possess a current health/pension

card which lists their children. Scholarship forms

or information can be obtained by contacting

Carrie Standing, Smith Family Midland, on 9274

2223 or by speaking to Marg Dove at the school.

Helping your child with maths

Making maths fun Dice games: Use two dice to help your child add together small numbers quickly.

Numberplate search: Look for a numberplate that has a 1 in it somewhere. Then find a plate with a 2 in it; then 3 and so on. Make it more fun for older children by asking them to add two numbers on the plate together to get numbers greater than 9; or add all the numbers together; or take the smallest one away from the biggest one.

Mystery number; think of a number. Ask your child to guess what it is as

you give clues. Perhaps say my number is more than 10 but less than 19. It’s an even number. Sometimes it’s called a dozen.

Did you know?

GENERATION ONE:

We have entered a nation wide competition titled Generation One. We are required to submit a video

clip of our students singing ‘Hands Across Australia’ with a few bars of Swan View Rap in the middle

of the song. The music provides a back drop for a series of photographs taken of the many special

programs occurring around the school and across the year levels. It was very exciting for the

students to visit a recording studio recently so that our excellent coral work is picked up through

quality technology. Thank you Mr Schoenmakers

B1 News

All B1 students entered a Fathers’ Day colouring competition run by “Real Estate Plus”. Mrs Nind

took all the entries to the Midland branch. Much to the delight of all, three winners were selected

from her class. These winners were; Kael Orr, Jaymes Ford and Arlyn Grant. Each winner received

prizes of a $50.00 gift voucher from Slater-Gartrell Sports for themselves, plus a $50.00 gift card

from Bunnings to give to their Dad on Father’s Day. In addition, all children who entered the

competition received a laminated

certificate of appreciation for

participating, the return of their

coloured entry which had also been

laminated, and a personal “Thank You”

letter from Mr Milton Rendell,

Principal of Real Estate Plus Midland.

Congratulations B1 students for

showing community spirit!!

Children learn to read simple numbers (0 to 9) before they can read words because each number stands for a whole word.
