Our highs and lows

Hints and Traces
By Fr. Roy [email protected]
IN lie, we cannot help but have high moments and lowmoments, good times and bad times. Tere are days when weare ull o zeal and things, even the most difficult, appear easy todo. Tere are also days when we eel listless, such that even thesimplest thing seems to require gigantic, heroic effort, requiringnothing less than martyrdom.
Tis is part o our human condition, and many causes andactors can explain that phenomenon. Tey can be both internaland external to us, spiritual and material, or physical, emotional, psychological, social, historical, etc. Tey can be beyond ourcontrol.
Its crucial that we dont get rattled beore this act o lie.Even in the worst scenarios, there is always hope. Te worst othings cannot be too bad unless we want it to be. And the reasonis that ultimately, we are all subject to Gods all-powerul, wise, merciul providence whose sole purpose is to bring all men andthings to him.
Its important that we maintain certain stability and notlose our identity and sense o purpose in spite o these gyrationswhich can become wild and erratic. Usually, the ups and downsare not that ofen, since our normal state always seeks somekind o constancy in lie. But we need to be ready when theseunavoidable swings come.
Tus, a basic attitude to have is to be sport in lie. Yes, weshould try to play as hard as we can to win, to score points, toreach our goals. But we should never orget that we can also lose,or ail, in spite o our best efforts.
But we just have to move on, knowing how to get along with
An abused agalog cliche states, Sa taong gusto maraming paraan at sataong ayaw maraming dahilan. Pres. Noynoy Aquino though attempting toconvey this adage was not able to quote it in such phrase but with his ownconvenient words during an interview while on his very recent trip abroad.
Tough uttered in divergent manner, the drif advanced the same idea, which he is much willing to support all moves to keep him in the presidentialseat or another time. Tis, according to PNoys detractors, is to the point oamending the 1987 Constitution to suffice this hunger or power.
What could be these means that will urther the cause and achieve the
end so desired? Te First siblings, meaning PNoy and his siblings are knownto have victored a challenge which objective their alleged allies are said to beadvancing now against all odds. Tis is even at the cost o a Charter Change inthe guise o economic advancement o this third-world country.
Lately, the waters are rippling, disturbing the calm recesses o the peoplesdemocratic proclivity. DILG Sec. Mar Roxas in one Manila-based V inter-
view broached the idea o PNoy extending his term instead o him runningor presidency in 2016 but carrying out the programs embarked on by PNoyand using Pnoys achievement as benchmark. Sec. Roxas, notwithstanding thegood it offers those who stand to benefit rom a second term o PNoy, stressedthat such thought o the Presidents extension only his personal view, not thePNoy administration neither the Liberal Partys stance.
Was not the Aquino siblings proven to be master o such scheme? Was itnot the same style they used that catapulted PNoy to power?
Never could the memory o the greatness o the late Sen. Ninoy Aquinoand the charm and equal popularity o the late Pres. Cory Aquino leave themind o the electorate. In the necrological service at the uneral o this first
lady president o the Philippines, PNoys celebrity sister floated a word pur-ported to be a disclosure o the lady president at her deathbed: the PNoy andKris should continue what their parents have started.
Tis passing statement o the then rumored politically inclined screen starmothballed into a political avalanche that stepped the supposed presidentialaspiration o Roxas. Now this same proven-effective style is being utilized. Inspite o the strong denial o Malacaang as being behind the call or PNoysterm extension, this insinuation could not escape the shadow o PNoy.
Although this proposal or term extension o PNoy thru Chacha has goodchance o surviving, not all sectors are avoring it, but rather take it as a des-perate move to perpetuate themselves in power, giving a nil chance or a betterleader to rule the country.
I there is a will, there is a way, says another overly used maxim. Just ashow the PDAF or the DAP is allegedly being attempted to be resurrected inthe 2015 National Budget by Congress in a manner that will not be declaredagain by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional, the term extension by way o
Chacha will definitely finds its way, too.A democratic exercise, this issue o PNoys term extension is a crucial mat-ter that every voter should ponder deeply and act responsibly on.

Celebration for teachers inCalbayog continues

conducts DARE training
Te first in Eastern Visayas
CALBAYOG CIY -- Te celebration recognizing thecrucial role o teachers in building our childrens uture wasextended until this month by the Department o Education(DepEd)-Calbayog City Division.
Te extension gave way to other equally relevant ac-tivities in connection with the recently concluded weeklongcelebration o the 66th Charter Day Anniversary o the Cityo Calbayog.
o recall, Charter Day activities spearheaded and pre-pared by the city government o Calbayog started October 10and ended October 16.
In this celebration, the DepEd amily in Calbayog headedby Schools Division Superintendent Atty. Fiel Y. Almendrahad also actively participated in the activities. One o whichis still ongoing and open to the public rom Mondays throughFridays at the Handumanan building, the DepEd-Calbayogartists signature art exhibit dubbed as Pakigduyog.
Meanwhile, to give back city governments courtesy toDepEd especially or their positive influences on Calbayognonchildren, Mayor Ronaldo Aquino repeatedly expressed his all-out support and assistance or teachers in a series o by-districtcelebration (Calbayog, Oquendo and inambacan districts)and in the division celebration o 2014 World eachers Dayheld recently at the Calbayog City Sports Center.
Mayor Aquino also took the occasion to express hisgratitude to the teachers by saying, My teacher, my hero, theworld recognizes that its uture is in your classroom today.Aside rom parents, you too are selfless givers o knowledge toour children. You may be the worlds largely unsung heroes, but you are one o the greatest people in our childrens lives.
He likewise said, I may have missed many times to thankmy teachers during my school days that made me what I amtoday, at least I now have the opportunity to thank all theteachers gathered here today. It eels great to be with you inthis humble occasion. Happy eachers Day!
Te eachers Day celebration in Calbayog City alsohighlighted the Induction o General Parents-eachers As-sociation (GPA) Officers, Induction o District and Divisioneachers-Officers, Awarding o 2014 Outstanding eachersand the Showcasing o alented eachers.
In a DepEd Memorandum No. 96 s. 2014 signed by Sec.Armin A. Luistro, National eachers Month (NM) cel-ebration starts September 5 with month-long activities thatculminates October 4, a day beore the World teachers Day.
Te celebration is pursuant to Presidential ProclamationNo. 242 signed on August 24, 2011 by his Excellency PresidentBenigno S. Aquino III and to the designation o World each-ers Day on every 5th o October by the United Nations Educa-tion and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). (Aimee Catalan)
lie, however it may unold to us, always relying on Gods graceand mercy. Tis sporting spirit helps us to ocus on what is trulynecessary to us, and not to get entangled with what are merelyincidental in lie, or at best are simply means and occasions towhat is lies essential purposeto know, love and serve Godthat redounds to loving everybody else.
I like to think o this sporting spirit as the integration o allthe gifs God gives us and the virtues that we have to develop. Itis the very expression o the interplay o aith, hope and char-ity, and all the other virtues o ortitude, prudence, humility, simplicity, obedience, order, etc.
Its this sporting spirit that would enable us to be overcomeour awkwardness and to inuse us with a certain elegance andpoise especially in some difficult moments. It would enable usto have enough humor without getting rivolous and losingour sobriety.
We have to reassure ourselves that we are still capable oa normal state o stability in spite o the vagaries o lie. First,
because we have some spiritual aculties, namely our intelligenceand will, that, in theory, are exempt rom the ups and downs olie, precisely because they are spiritual.
We just have to make sure that we do not allow these acul-ties to be held captive or ully dominated by our varying earthlyand material conditions. We should not allow them to be at themercy o mere sentimentalism, or some disordinate attachmentsto earthly things, not even to our most brilliant but purely hu-man philosophies, ideologies, etc.
Tats why we have to be always on guard, always prayingor being in the presence o God. Tis would enable us to dis-cern what God is trying to show us regarding how to react andbehave in the different circumstances and situations o our lie.
Tese powers, given to us by God our Creator and Father, would enable us to hold on to the eternal and universal truths, irrespective o how these truths are interpreted, understood andlived in the different ages, cultures and liestyles o the people.
When properly engaged with their source, pattern, laws
and purpose, who is no one else but God, these powers wouldenable us to avoid getting spoiled because o our successes inlie as well as alling into despair when we suffer deeats.
When properly used, these powers would enable us to find
meaning and purpose in everything that can happen to us in lie.Tey would enable us to live what St. Paul once said: o themthat love God, all things work together unto good (Rom 8,28)
We have to do everything to hook these spiritual powerswith God, and avoid the dangers o subordinating them to merelypassing circumstances o our earthly lie.

2. The parties herein
posses the capacity to be sue
and be sued;
3. The Petitioners
daughter was born on May 17,
1998, in Brgy. San Policarpo,

as integral part hereof;
4. The said MARIA

BAN nished her elementary

Central School, Brgy. San
Policarpo, Calbayog City. She
commenced her secondary
education at San Policarpo
National High School, Brgy.
San Policarpo, Calbayog City

6. On May 16, 2005,
petitioner caused the registra-
tion of her birth and was sub-

Registry No. 98-1767. Copy of
which is hereto attached as An-
nex E to form as an integral
part hereof. In this document,
erroneous entries exist to the
effect that:
a. The full name of her
father was written as RICAR-
DO ABOGANDA MABINI,
where in fact it should have
been EXPEDITO TOMBOC
ANIBAN,
b. Her name was written
as MA. AMOR de la CRUZ
MABINI instead of MA.
AMOR DELA CRUZ ANI-

c. The surname of her
mother was entered as de la
CRUZ instead of DELA
CRUZ;
8. The first Certificate
of Live Birth bearing Local
Civil Registry No. 98-1767
should be cancelled as the
entries therein do not bear
the factual circumstances un-

learned that the registration
of the rst Certicate of Live
Birth bearing Local Civil Reg-

by a person who is not suf-
ciently acquainted with respect
to the facts of birth of the child,
hence, some of the entries in
that said first Certificate of
Live Birth were inaccurate and
erroneous;
10. Petitioner seeks the
cancellation of the rst Cer-

been filed by the petitioner
REBECCA DELA CRUZ,
through counsel praying that
after due notice, publica-
tion and hearing, an Order
be issued canceling the rst
Certificate of Live Birth of
EXPEDITO JOHN DELA
CRUZ ANIBAN bearing Lo-
cal Civil Registry No. 95-1234from the record of the Local
Civil Registrar of Calbayog
City and National Statistics
Ofce Quezon City.
The Petition reads:
1. Petitioner is Filipino,
of legal age, presently resid-
ing at Brgy. San Policarpo,
Calbayog City, Samar, where
she may be served with sum-
mons and other processes of
the court, while defendants are
the National Statistics Ofce
in Quezon City and the Local
Civil Registrar of Calbayog
City, where the facts of birth
of petitioners child EXPE-
DITO JOHN DE LA CRUZ
ANIBAN was registered and
are being impleaded as the
custodian of the original copy
of Certificate of Live Birth
sought to be cancelled;
2. The parties herein
posses the capacity to be sue
and be sued;
3. The Petitioners child
was born on June 6, 1995, in
Brgy. Panongon, Calbayog
City, and was later named as
EXPEDITO JOHN DELA
CRUZ ANIBAN, He was
baptized in accordance with
the Rite of the Roman Catho-
lic Church last September
17, 1995 at Sts. Peter and
Paul Cathedral, Calbayog
City by Msgr. Bienvenido
N. Chiquillo in the presence
of her principal sponsors,
namely Norman Sagayap
and Lolita Rimando. Copy of
the Certicate of Baptism is
hereto appended and marked
as Annex A in order to be
made as integral part hereof;
4. The said EXPEDITO
JOHN DELA CRUZ ANI-
BAN nished his elementary
education at San Policarpo
Central School, Brgy. San
Policarpo, Calbayog City. He
also commenced and nished
his secondary education at
San Policarpo National High
School, Brgy. San Policarpo,
Calbayog City. Copies of his
Form 137-E in both elemen-
tary and secondary educa-
tion are hereto attached and
marked as Annexes B and
C respectively, to form as
integral part hereof;
5. Since birth, he has
been using the maiden name
DELA CRUZ the same being
the surname of the petitioner
and as the formers mother.
Also, he has been using the
last name ANIBAN the lat-
ter being the surname of his
biological father EXPEDITO
TOMBOC ANIBAN;
6. On June 28, 1995 hi
father EXPEDITO TOMBOC
ANIBAN caused the registra-
tion of his birth and was sub-
sequently issued by the Local
Civil Registrar of Calbayog
City corresponding Certicate
of Live Birth bearing Local
Civil Registry No. 95-1296.
Copy of which is hereto ap-
pended and marked as Annex
D in order to be made as an
Integral part hereof;
7. However, when the
copy of the Certicate of Live
Birth of the child was secured
from the National Statistics
Ofce, petitioner was surprise
when she discovered that
another record relative to the
birth of the child already ex-
ist in the said ofce bearing
Registry No. 95-1234. Copy
of which is hereto attached
as Annex E to form as an
integral part hereof. In this
document, erroneous entries
exist to the effect that:
a. The full name of his
father was written as RICAR-
DO ABOGANDA MABINI.
Where in fact it should have
been EXPEDITO TOMBOC
ANIBAN,
b. His surname as
entered as MABINI instead
of ANIBAN;
c. His place of birth
was written a Brgy. San Poli-
carpo, Calbayog City instead
of Brgy. Panonongong,
Calbayog City; and
d. The informant ap-
pears to be the petitioner when
in fact it should have been
EXPEDITO T. ANIBAN,
as the petitioner did not ll up
or sign any document relative
to the birth of the said EXPE-
DITO JOHN DE LA CRUZ
ANIBAN.
8. Her rst Certicate of
Live Birth bearing Local Civil
Registry No. 95-1234 should
be cancel led as the entri es
therein do not bear the factual
circumstances underlying the
birth of EXPEDITO JOHN
DELA CRUZ ANIBAN.
9. Petitioner thereafter
learned that the registra-
tion of the first Certificate
of Live Birth (Local Civil
Registry No. 95-1234), was
affected by a person who is
not sufficiently acquainted
with respect to the facts of
birth of the petitioners child.
Consequently, some of the
entries in the rst Certicate
of Live Birth were inaccurate
and erroneous;
10. Petitioner seeks the
cancellation of the rst Cer-
ticate of Live Birth bearing
Local Civil Registry No. 95-
1234 since the correct entries
with respect to the facts of
birth of the petitioners child
are those indicated in the sec-
ond Certicate of Live Birth
bearing Local Civil Registry
No. 95-1296:
11. Finally, this petition
is led not for illegal purpos-
es but in order to straighten
the record relative to the facts
of the birth of EXPEDITO
JOHN DELA CRUZ ANI-
BAN thereby any doubt in
connection therewith will be
forestalled.

PNOYS LEGACY ON CRIMES IN RP: Citizens are
cowering in fear. A drug-crazed man prowls their neighbor-hood and, because reports said he has already killed threeyoung boys in the area just for shrill fun and is said to be benton killing one more just because this intended victim allegedlywitnessed the murder of the third boy, nobody wants to talkabout him, for fear of their lives.
One would think this is either somewhere in CentralAmerica, in Latin American countries where drug syndicateshold sway, but, no, this is in the Philippines. Somewhere inQuezon City, to be exact, in Metro Manila where the seat ofthe national government and of the national police and ofthe military is located.
Now, if this is happening right here where the full mightand power of government is supposed to be supreme, if crimi-nals and drug users and abusers no longer fear anyone evenhere, is anybody in this country still safe? Is this the legacythat President Aquino wants to leave to Filipinos who clungto him and his promise of righteous governance when he
assumed power in 2010? -ooo-BRIBES AGAINS USE OF ECHNOLOGY? Here is
another interesting point from Pat Sosa Sigue, a respectedand well-loved veteran journalist of long standing, in a recentFacebook post: Are giant companies engaged in car manu-facturing and oil and gasoline businesses giving bribes to topgovernment officials so that economical cars and those whichcontribute to a clean environment and which avoid pollutionare not allowed to be sold here?
And why are we not pursuing the use of solar energy andnet metering so that we can solve with dispatch our problemswith insufficient power supply, and thereby come up withpollution-free environment where costly and smoke-filledpower plants are avoided? If there are no bribes, why are wenot doing these things?
-ooo-LAWMAKERS JOIN CALL FOR PCOS PROBE: Tere
is an avalanche of public opinion engulfing the whole coun-try right now which says that the Commission on Electionsshould immediately act on a decision of Judge Agapito Lao-agan of the Paniqui, arlac Regional rial Court, Branch 67,that nullified 87% of the towns 2013 election results producedby precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines.
Not only are information technology or computer ex-perts the ones calling now for the junking of PCOS machinesin the 2016 presidential elections, on the ground that PCOSresults do not represent the true will of the voters and truecount of their votes, but even lawmakers from the House ofRepresentatives---Abakada Rep. Jonathan Dela Cruz, OFWRep. Roy Seneres, and Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice---aresaying this matter must be seriously looked into.
-ooo-COMELEC BEN ON USING PCOS IN 2016: But, as
street-smart Filipinos are wont to say, suntok ito sa buwan(or, this is a punch against the moon), which means that,
there is really no hope that the Comelec will do somethingabout this problem, simply because it is hell-bent on using thejudicially-discredited PCOS machines all over again in 2016.
Fact is, Comelec already defied Supreme Court resolu-tions on PCOS machines earlier, in several decisions whichthe Comelec already received, so why will it act now, right,Atty. Harry Roque? When the Comelec defied the SupremeCourt resolutions on PCOS machines, its officials were notpunished, as if they did not defy the highest court of the land.So where are PCOS opponents to go now?
