President’s Message Dear members and friends

This is already the last newsletter for the year. It is also the last newsletter for me as president. After 5 years in this role (and many years before as treasurer and member of the committee) I will not stand for reelection this year. I enjoyed the time and working together with the committees. It is time for me to improve my work –life balance. Our newsletter editor Evelyn Schneider is also leaving. Thank you Evelyn for editing the newsletter this Club year!

I am happy to look back to a successful year. Since the last newsletter the Club

held the National Day celebration at the Lustenberger farm. Many of the usual

helpers were away. However, there were enough helpers there to make the

event a success. Thank you to all of them! We do need volunteers as the

committee cannot do all the work alone. Even if it is only once, your help is

needed and appreciated. So in the future put up your hand! A special thanks

to the Lustenberger family for allowing again to have the event at their farm!

Thank you Sam and Matt for hosting a fantastic helpers Fondue at your place!

It is the last newsletter for the year – but not the last event: look inside for

information about Go Karting, the Jass Tournament, a film night and of course

the Annual General Meeting. If you are interested in joining the committee,

please complete a nomination form. The choir is still happy for additional

voices and those who like Jass have the opportunity of regularly playing

(contact Gaby Hoffmann).

The last event this year will be the visit from Samichlaus.

The Swiss Club is an organization which provides the opportunity to meet,

enjoy, experience traditions and make friends. Your presence and your

contributions are vital for the Club to survive.

I look forward to meeting you at an event and at the AGM (Annual General

Meeting).

Your president

Gaby Hasler

Members Corner

Swiss National Day comes to Braidwood

Felix and Bronnie Schlager, together with their daughter and son-in-law Marita and Reto Fuhrer, decided it was time Braidwood had its own Swiss National Day celebrations – so that’s what they did, holding it on Felix and Bronnie’s farm “Holzrueti” on the outskirts of the town. With a handful of other local Swiss nationals, together with some extra family and friends, a good night was had by all. The Cervelats were washed down with the best gluhwein Braidwood has ever seen using the good old recipe used by Lina Shlager over many years at “Banjo”. A follow- up has already been planned for next year.
