Location● Switzerland is a small country in Western

Europe.● Switzerland has 26 cantons.● It's bordered by: Germany, France, Italy, Austria

and Liechtenstein.

Capital● The capital is Bern.● In 2006, 127.000 people lived in the city.

Flag and coat of arms

● The flag of Switzerland consists in a red field, a white cross whose arms are one-sixth longer than their width.

● The Swiss flag traditionally stands for freedom, honour and fidelity.

Important Information● The area of Switzerland is 41,285 km².● There are about 8 million people in

Switzerland.● The largest city of Switzerland is Zürich.● Baar was for 2 year a town but now Baar is

a city because the population is big.

Languages

● The four national languages of Switzerland are German, French, Italian and Romansh.

● The immigrant languages are Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, English, Dutch, Greek, Macedonian, Portuguese, Serbain, Slovenian, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish and Ukrainian Albanian.

Government● Switzerland is a multi-party federal

directorial democratic republic.● Seven people (called ministers) do the job

of president.● Switzerland is known for its neutrality. A

country is neutral when it does not take sides among the countries who are at war. Switzerland has been neutral for more than 190 years. Many international organizations are in Switzerland. The United Nations has a main office there.

Currency and Religion

● The Swiss Franc is the currency of Switzerland.

● Christianity is the predominant religion of Switzerland (70.8%). 21.4% of the total population are unaffiliated. The largest minority religion in Switzerland is Islam (4.9% in 2012)

cheese and chocolate.● Vaudoi is molten cheese in a pot. They

use a special fork with bread, They dip it in the cheese and eat it

Sports● Skiing, snowboarding and

mountaineering are the most popular sports in Switzerland.

● Children and older Swiss people are fans of football and hookey.

● Motorsport race courses and events were banned in Switzerland after the 1955 Le Mans disaster.
