South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Primary Care Workforce Group To: CCG Chairs South Yorkshire CCG Chief Officers South Yorkshire 3 May 2016 Dear Colleague I am writing as Chair of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw primary care workforce group to ask for your help. This group was set up by Health Education England with help from NHS England to allow stakeholders from primary care across the region to discuss and catalyse the transformation that is required within primary care to create a sustainable service for the future. At our last meeting in April we had representatives from four of the five CCGs in the region, the Local Medical and Pharmaceutical Committees, Health Education England, Large GP provider organisation, University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam. At this meeting we discussed practices might be supported to build locally upon the ongoing workforce development work taking place. One of the critical barriers highlighted was GPs struggling to find the time they need to consider just how they might configure services differently to meet the needs of their patients whilst managing their day to day commitments. A proposal came from the group to set up localised ‘Workforce Workshops’ to create this space for GPs to learn from each other and work through potential solutions together. It was suggested workshops could take place in practice premises allowing colleagues from the local area to come together easily minimising disruption to the working day. These sessions would be facilitated by forward thinking GPs themselves.

Dear Colleague

I am writing as Chair of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw primary care workforce group to ask for your help.

The group is asking that your CCG facilitates this by offering practices an additional opportunity to close and utilise the cover used for practice learning events. This would be specifically targeted at attendance at these workshops.

Can you let me know if this would be a possibility for your CCG? If you wish to talk through options please feel free to contact me. If agreed we would be able to co-ordinate the workshops.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your support.
