Student Code of Conduct and Academic IntegrityEAC expects and requires its students to act with honesty, integrity, and respect in their educational pursuits. Students are responsible for understanding the College’s Academic Integrity Policy and adhering to the behavior standards listed. The policy in its entirety can be found in the College’s current catalog at: http://www.eac.edu/Academics/Catalogs/PDF/Catalog_All.pdf

Plagiarism means presenting someone else’s ideas or words as one’s own without properly acknowledging the source. Plagiarism violates the College’s Academic Integrity Policy and students found in violation will be subject to the sanctions as outlined in policy.

Students are entitled to receive instruction free from interference by other members of the class. An instructor may withdraw a student from a course when the student’s behavior disrupts the educational process.

Statement on InclusionEastern Arizona College is committed to fostering an environment characterized by respect, safety, and a sense of community among students and employees. Diversity and inclusion fosters a greater awareness and understanding of diverse populations and our collective complexity as a society. To do this requires our faculty and staff to reflect on issues related to academic, cultural, social, and racial diversity to provide our students the opportunity to learn from broad perspectives. Although historically race and gender have been symbols of diversity, EAC believes diversity includes additional categories such as, but not limited to, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities, age, intellectual perspective, and nationality.

Accessibility StatementIn compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, professional disability specialists and support staff in the Counseling Department facilitate the academic support services and accommodations for qualified students with disabilities. Eligibility is based on qualifying disability documentation and assessment of individual need. Students who believe they have a need for disability accommodations are responsible for requesting accommodations and providing qualifying documentation to EAC’s Counseling Department. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified students. For more information, see: http://www.eac.edu/Student_Services/Counseling/Disabled.shtm

Title IXTitle IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial aid.” Eastern Arizona College is committed to providing a safe and positive learning, living, and working environment. Both Title IX and EAC policy make clear that sexual violence and harassment based on gender is prohibited. The College has a responsibility to ensure that students, faculty, staff, and visitors can enjoy the benefits and opportunities the College has to offer in an environment free from discrimination on the basis of gender, including

sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, bullying, and retaliation.

An individual who believes they have been subjected to sexual violence or harassed on the basis of sex can seek support, including counseling and academic support, from the College. If you or someone you know has been harassed on the basis of sex or sexually assaulted, you can find information and resources at http://www.eac.edu/TitleIX/

Please note, “As a mandated reporter, I am obligated to report any information I become aware of regarding alleged acts of discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct.”Harassment ProhibitedEAC policy prohibits harassment on the basis of race, sex, gender identity, age, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, and other protected classes. Violations of this policy are serious and may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employees or expulsion of students. Contact your professor or EAC’s Counseling Department if you are concerned about harassment of any kind.

Consider including information on classroom policies, classroom behavior, late/missing assignments, a coursework schedule, use of electronic devices including laptops and cellphones, etc.

The following sections are for your consideration. Revise and edit as you see appropriate.

Late/Missing AssignmentsNo late work will be accepted without prior arrangements. Work turned in after the class period is subject to one letter grade each day it is late thereafter.

Test Retake/Makeup PolicyIf you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to get notes from another student. Please contact me if you miss an exam. You will need to take the makeup test within one week of the original test. If you score 80% or less and want to improve your score, you may retake the test. The higher score will count toward your grade.

Use of Electronic DevicesLaptops and tablets are permitted in class to take notes and conduct research as needed. Please ensure cell phones are turned off.

Extra CreditThere are limited opportunities for extra credit. The best way to be successful in this course is to read the materials, complete assignments timely, and ask for help. Extra credit will be available for those completing the end of course evaluation.

Assignment Guidelines – Written WorkUse Microsoft Word or another word processor for your written work. All papers require additional research from various sites as well as your course textbook. Follow APA guidelines for in-text citations, format, and references. Your written work needs to incorporate and tie together the learning objectives, terminologies, and case examples from the readings into your paper. Prove to me that you can apply the chapter’s strategies in real life situations from your research and personal observations.

Assignment Guidelines – Discussion BoardAppropriate online behavior (also known as netiquette) is defined by the instructor and includes keeping course discussion posts focused on the assigned topics. Students must maintain a cordial atmosphere and use tact in expressing differences of opinion. Inappropriate discussion board posts may be deleted by the instructor. Please disagree with another student tactfully and in a professional manner.

Workload ExpectationsThis three-credit course requires approximately 135 hours of work during the semester. You should expect to spend approximately 6-9 hours each week preparing for and actively participating in this course. Students are expected to be prepared for class. Preparation includes completing assigned readings and completing all assignments, quizzes, and exams on or before the designated due date.

TurnitinPlease be aware any assignment may be submitted to TurnItIn.com, a Web site that checks and reports originality. The software checks other student submissions at thousands of colleges and universities as well as information from the Internet, books, and other publications. When in doubt, cite your sources and use quotation marks as appropriate. Always give credit where credit is due.
