Course aims and content Learning outcomes

Legal English I is a compulsory course that

exposes students to a fairly wide range of

communicative situations in the English

language concerning different topics in the field

of law as well as daily life, through which

students will be able to express their

communicative skills and simultaneously

improve their knowledge of all four basic

language skills: listening, reading, writing, and

standards of legal writing, terminology and

linguistic peculiarities, drafting of legal

documents, types of contracts, structureof

contracts, termination, British and American

English, etc., will include a variety of grammar

and vocabulary exercises, which will help the

students reach a good command of the English

language focusing on the intertwining of

linguistic competence and performance as an

imperative for mastering a foreign language.

be able to:

1. Understand clearly and easily the legal

terms used in the topics discussed during the

course, and converse about those topics

without difficulties.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The teaching methodology is utterly based on the Communicative Approach as a dominant

orthodoxy in the English language teaching worldwide. Lectures will be delivered in an

interactive form, engaging students in all kinds of discussions concerning the topics covered in

this course, giving them instructions on the proper language use, and organising a fair range of

activities that imitate the use of the English language outside the classroom, such as: pair work,

group work, role plays, etc., in order to prepare the students to make use of the language both

inside and outside the classroom. Discussions during the exercises will be organised in small

groups in order to stimulate the students’ competitive spirit. Presentation of their seminar papers

and other assignments will also be an integral part of the teaching and learning process that will

greatly contribute to the students’ improvement of their language skills.

basic knowledge of the native language of

Albanian, its spelling, basic grammar rules, as

well as forms of writing, ranging from official

papers to higher forms of academic writing, such

as essay and compilation of diploma and Mastar

METODOLOGY OF REALIZING THE TEACHING TOPICS

I will use interconnected methods, starting from the classic method of direct communication

with students, to working with groups and individuals. The way of communication depends on

the subject of the lesson.

Likewise, the methods of continuous communication in the form of homework assignments will

be applied, not only as a homework assignment but also as a form of collaboration to more

appropriately master the subject and its units. This ongoing work has had positive effects on the

acquisition of academic writing. The demonstration method will be used where possible, for
