Art Three and Four Ap/gt
As this is an Advanced Placement course, a minimum ofthree hours of outside work is expected each week. Most often, for each marking period there will be three assignments, each taking nine or more hours to complete. As the long-term
homework assignment allows for the greatest individual interpretation and creative problem solving, the expectation is
substantial. Significantly, these are also the works that colleges tend to be MOST interested in because the homeworkproblems have the greatest latitude for personal interpretation. Therefore these works are primarily responsible for gettingyou into the college-level art program of your choice. The homework is given more weight than individual class workassignments. Therefore, any student not submitting homeworkor submitting hastily-prepared homeworkwill
be unlikely to pass that marking period.
Due Dates for Portfolio Works
Below is a calendar of when 21 portfolio works are due. Because the AP exam requires a minimum of 24
portfolio works, if students do not already have 3 portfolio works (from the summer or prior class), they will be
required to complete those on their own time by the May 6th exam. Likewise, if students complete a work thatdoes not represent to quality necessary for the AP exam, they will have to complete additional work to
compensate. Each in-class portfolio work is worth 100 points and each homework portfolio work is worth 150
points.****** In Process Homework Portfolio Works are always due 5 school days before their final due date so that
we can discuss strategies and suggestions for completion before the due date. These checks will be worth 50
points and the work must be 50% completed at the time of check.*****

Art Three and Four Ap/gt
All Art Three and Four students are required to maintain a sketchbook. While the sketchbook is not required for
the AP exam, it is integral for college portfolio review and sometimes scholarship competitions. Thesketchbook is to be viewed as a visual journal, and each artist should be recording their thought processes in it.
Students must provide their own sketchbook (they should have one from previous art classes). The sketchbook
must be at least 6x8 and spiral bound (or otherwise approved by teacher).
Sketchbook entries of a mandated theme will be required biweekly. Other sketchbook entries are alwayswelcomed and encouraged-- these entries could range from proposals for portfolio works, drawing from
observation, records of museum visits, field trips, vacations, etc. Each sketchbook entry (a 2-page spread) is
worth 30 points. In class time will not be allotted for sketchbook entries, they should be completed outside ofclass.
