LAB ENVIRONMENT DETAILS

Figure: Environment Setup

The lab environment consists of 4 VMs. All the VMs are connected on two virtual networks “vmnet4 (200.200.200.x)” for backup data flow, and "vmnet9 (192.168.1.x)" for initial configuration tasks. The above figure shows all the VMs, their connectivity on the two networks, roles, configuration states, hostnames, and software versions.

NBCLIENT is the only VM you will have to directly interact with. The VM NBESXI contains VM VM-LINUX.The nested VM is set for auto boot and auto shutdown along with the NBESXI VM.

EXERCISE 2: SETUP NETBACKUP 5020 AND CREATE A PDDO STORAGE UNIT ON 5220

(15 min)

Figure 2.1 Setup NB5020DC

SETUP NB5020DC

To avoid IP clash for 192.168.1.1, the network configuration part for NB5020DC is already done, and the eth0 interface is disconnected.

For NB5020DC only the Storage Pool Configure Wizard needs to be run.

1. Login to the URL http://nb5020dc.nbappliance.lab/Installer as root

2. Start the Storage Pool Configuration Wizard

3. In the Topology Discovery Section,

Select the node shown in storage pool, and provide

nb5020dc.nbappliance.lab for FQDN.

Select the box Activate added CR node automatically, and click Next.

4. After the Network Reconfiguration completes, click Next.

5. Click Next, in the "PureDisk Licenses" section.

6. In the "Storage Pool Details" section provide values as follows:

DC for name, description, location and department

Select the box " This is the Central Storage Pool Authority (SPA)"

Leave External NTP server blank, and default password as they are.

UTC for Time Zone.

nbclient.nbappliance.lab for SMTP Server

[email protected] for e-mail ID.

Click Next to start the configuration, and Finish once the configuration completes.

Click OK for External NTP server warning.

7. Close the browser and start another instance and check the configuration by logging in to the appliance using http://nb5020dc.nbappliance.lab as root.

CONFIGURE PDDO STORAGE IN NETBACKUP

**Before you begin this part, please ensure that the master server configuration in exercise1 has successfully completed**

1. Login to nb5220dc using NetBackup admin console as admin.

2. Using the Disk Storage Servers configuration wizard, create a storage server, disk pool, and storage unit using the following details

Storage type: PureDisk Deduplication Pool

Storage server name: nb5020dc

Media server name: nb5220dc

SPA Credentials:

o User Name: root

o Password: P@ssw0rd

o Confirm Password: P@ssw0rd

3. Once the wizard completes, continue with the disk pool, and storage unit creation wizard, and provide suitable names for the disk pool and storage unit. While creating storage unit, ensure that "Max Concurrent Jobs" is changed to more than 2.

EXERCISE 3: BACKUP A VMWARE VIRTUAL MACHINE (15 min)

Figure 3.1 Setup NB5020DC

In this exercise, we look at a feature unique to NetBackup Appliances. This feature is about setting up a 5200 series appliance as a VMware access host. As the appliance itself can be setup as a VMware access host, there is no need for a separate physical or virtual Windows based VMware access host, to backup a VMware virtual machie.

1. Ensure that the nested VMs (vm-linux) have booted, by pinging the hostname vm-linux.

2. Login to nb5220dc admin console as admin.

3. Go to NetBackup Management >Host Properties>Master Servers.

4. Double click on nb5220dc to open the master server properties.

5. Add nb5220dc as VMware Access Host.

6. Click OK to close the master server properties.

7. Now go to Media and Device Management >Credentials>Virtual Machine Servers.

8. Add nbesxi as a virtual machine server with following details:

Type : VMware ESX Server

Username: root

Password: P@ssw0rd

10 of 13

Check Validate Credentials and select "nb5220dc" and click OK.

9. Now create a VMware backup policy using the “Create a policy” wizard, using the following information:

Transport method: "nbd".

Browse for clients to be backed up, and select "vm-linux".

Once the policy is successfully created take a test backup to a suitable storage unit on the appliance.
