5.MeetingtheNeedsofStudentswithDisabilitiesandEnglishlearnersInadditiontoactionstepsarticulatedinthisdocument,allstate/federallawsandIDEAassurancesprovidedannuallytotheDepartmentremainapplicableandineffect.HowSynergyPublicSchoolensureaccessandmeettheneedsofstudentswithdisabilities.ActionSteps:
1. AllstudentswillbeprovidedequitableaccesstothegeneralcurriculumandafreeandappropriatepubliceducationinaccordancewiththeirIndividualizedEducationPlan(IEP).

SynergyPublicSchoolusesSuccessforAll’sGettingAlongTogetherProgramforsocialandemotionallearning.GettingAlongTogetherhasathree-prongedfocus:studentslearnthinkingandcognitiveskills,emotionalmanagement,aswellasinterpersonalandsocialskills.Collectively,theseskillsandstrategiescreateapeacefulschoolenvironmentwherestudentsareempoweredtomanagetheirownbehavior,decreaseconflict,andincreasereceptivitytolearning.GettingAlongTogetherhelpsstudentswithfocus,memory,andself-control,aswellasbuildingempathy,friendshipskills,cognition,andcopingskillsforcommonsocialproblems.

Thisisintentionallysethigherthanthestandardscoreof70%utilizedbyothereducationalinstitutions.TherationalebehindthispercentistoguideandpushstudentstosurpasstheArizonaStandards,notjustmeetthem.Onnorm-referencedtests,

the80%willbedeterminedbasedonnumberofquestionsthestudentanswerscorrectlyoutofthenumberofquestionsassessed.Onendofthelessonassessments,the80%willbedeterminedbythenumberofproblemspresentedorarubric.

7. Grade3(AppliestoDistancelearningandIn-PersonStudents)TomaintaincompliancewithArizona,MoveonWhenReadinglegislation,SynergyPublicSchoolwillnotpromoteathird-gradestudent“ifthepupilobtainsascoreonthereadingportionoftheArizonainstrumenttomeasurestandardstest,orasuccessortest,thatdemonstratesthatthepupil’sreadingisnotproficientatthethird-gradelevel.”BasedonArizonastatelaw,therearetwoexceptionstothisincludingEnglishLanguageLearners(whohavereceivedlessthantwoyearsofEnglishinstruction)andstudentswithdisabilitieswhohavepreviouslybeenretained.Allparentswillbenotifiedannuallythat3rdgraderswhoarereadingfarbelowthethird-gradereadinglevelmaynotbepromoted.Forthirdgraderswhoareatriskofbeingretained,theparents/guardians,thestudent’steacherandtheExecutiveDirectorswillchoosethemostappropriate

DistancelearningstudentsinGradesK-6whorequireanAZELLAplacementtest,willbeadministeredtheassessmentwithinthefirst30daysofschool.Anystudententeringafterthe30dayswhoneedstobeassessed,willbeassessedwithin2weeks.Atthetimeofdistancelearningregistration,iffeasibletheAZELLAwillbeadministeredthatdayinperson.AZELLAassessmentsmustbeadministeredinpersonsoDistanceLearningstudentswillberequiredtoreporttotheschoolatascheduledtimefortheassessment.
