Synthetic Fleece

Synthetic FleeceBY Toby Hudson

What is Synthetic fleeceSynthetic fleece is a fake fleece that is much cosier than regular fleece. However, it is artificial but has lots of advantages such as it is warm and comfortable. Anyone with fleece allergies will feel fine wearing this stuff. It is made of polyethylene terephthalate which I will explain more about in the next slide.

What is polyethylene terephthalate What is polyethylene terephthalate

How is it made?

It is made of glass fibres but, technically speaking, it is a thermoplastic resin that is created from the condensation from some specific acids, such as terephthalic acid.

Advantages & Disadvantages of P.E.TThere are several advantages in using this material especially when you use it for packaging. It does not break easily and any food that is put in it will taste fresh after a journey as the P.E.T is pure. Some disadvantages of it including that it is flammable until made fire retardant, which is quite tricky, and P.E.T tends to increase in size after every wash.

Products made with P.E.TUsually, they are used in items such as bed cloths and duvet covers. Also synthetic fleece is used for things that need fake fleece . One of the main things like this is fake scarfs [not animal skin] and clothes with fleece on them.

Here are some examples.

Beanie hats. This hat will be very suitable for our hats that we will make because it doesn't hold water and it is animal free so people like vegans will be able to wear our hat as well. Plus, the fabric will become warm [even when it is wet, yes wet] very quickly and dry out well.

Re-using and re-cycling.The difference between re-using and re-cycling is quite big. To re-cycle a material is to turn it into a material that can be used again for a different purpose. However, to re-use something is to not change it in any way but still use it again. P.E.T fleece would fall under the re-cycle category as it is made of other fibres.
