Great communications start with strong graphic standards

Following graphic standards is vitally important to presenting a strong unified brand throughout Sysco and to the outside world. You play a leading role in this effort, and this guide will help you succeed. It will introduce you to our company’s “look and feel” and familiarize you with the core elements of our identity system.

To produce effective communications you should always strive to apply these standards to your projects. Be sure to read this manual completely – all of our elements are covered in detail.

When you need to design your own communications pieces, be sure to follow the guidelines and examples in this manual. We’ve also built templates to make it even easier for you to create superb communications. Just click the blue links at the right of each page to access the assets you’ll need.

The Sysco brand is symbolic of the company and its values. It stands for the same values and standards that make Sysco the leader in our industry and a preferred place to work and grow. Its consistent use and application are essential to protect the meaning and integrity of the Sysco name and what it means to our many shareholders, associates, customers and suppliers.

In creating the brand, great care was taken to emphasize the beneficial nature of partnering with Sysco. The updated vibrant colors and contemporary style of the brand echo our commitment to quality and the communities that we serve, while the strong and contemporary font creates a fresh, clean, modern look and feel. The slogan reminds both our internal and external audiences of the many benefits of associating with Sysco.

The Sysco brand will achieve maximum effectiveness when applied consistently to all elements. To promote consistency, the following official guidelines must be observed.

Sysco Logo Visual Identifiers Section 1 Sysco Identity

This is the one and only Sysco logo and tagline. It will be used by all Sysco companies. Alterations to the logo are unacceptable except when creating company, department or program sub-brand logos. See acceptable sub-brand logo examples on pages 10 and 11.

Logo B is only to be used when the logo is less than ½ inch in size and the tagline is illegible due to the size

restraint. See page 8.

A minimum unobstructed area should

surround the logo on all sides. This

staging area must be equal to the

height of the “y” in Sysco on all sides.

Typography, photographs, illustrations,

symbols or other visual elements may

not enter the staging area.

The logo must not be altered in

any way. The size and position of

all elements are fixed.

Instructions on how to configure the

Sysco logo with a sub-brand identifier

are provided here.

The sub-brand typography should

be flush left with the lowercase “s” in

the Sysco logo. The cap height of the

sub-brand typography must equal the

height of the white space in the “o” of

the Sysco logo. The font Myriad Pro

Semibold should be used.

Position the sub-brand typography

below the Sysco logo so that the top of

the upper case letters in the sub-brand

lines up with the bottom of the ”y”.

identifier are provided here.

The sub-brand typography should be

flush left with the Sysco logo. The cap

height of the sub-brand typography

must equal the cap height of the “G” in

the tagline letters. The font Myriad Pro

Semibold should be used.

Position the sub-brand below the logo

so that the space between the bottom

of the ”y” and the top of the sub-brand

capital letters is equal to the height of

the “G” in the tagline. See example below.

These variations illustrate incorrect logo

usage and are not acceptable. Visual

integrity must always be ensured.

Never transpose the Sysco logo colors.

Use of Sysco Logo on Photographs Section 1 Sysco Identity

The Sysco logo may be used over

photographs but only in its all-white

version. Never use any color variation

of the Sysco logo on a photograph.

Make sure no part of the Sysco logo is

over a light area of the image, as this

will fragment its visual integrity and

diminish brand effectiveness.

When printing the brand colors use

the Pantone Matching System (PMS)

for solid colors and CMYK for four color

reproduction. Use only full strength.

Printing surface may affect intensity of

color. HTML and RGB should be used

for on-screen applications.

If the logo appears over the brand

colors, always use the all-white

logo version.

The Sysco color palette also contains

primary neutral colors that support the

Sysco brand. Cream, Light Khaki, Dark

Gray and Light Gray may be used as

background colors in all mediums. Dark

Gray may be used for typography.

If the logo appears over the cream, light

khaki or light gray colors, the two color

version should always be used. The all-

white version logo should appear over

dark gray.

While you should always use the

primary color palette in any Sysco

communications, we have made this

secondary portfolio of colors available

to give you more flexibility on certain

uses. These colors should only be used

as highlights on promotional materials,

in-house publications and online

graphics – a good example is

the orange box on the Sysco

website homepage.

When the logo appears over a

secondary color, the all-white version

should always be used. Secondary

colors are not approved for apparel

colors except for special circumstances.

When black is being used on a white

background, the logo must be printed

in solid black with no screens or tints.

When used on a neutral or gray

background, the logo must be

printed in the all-white version to

create as much contrast as possible.

always reverse the logo out of the

the most contrast possible and is

highly readable.

It is always preferable to reproduce

the Sysco logo in the two color version.

However, there may be times when

only one color is appropriate. In this

case, it is acceptable to use the logo in

Sysco blue or to use the all-white logo

reversed out of Sysco green or

Sysco blue.

Identity Typeface for Professionally Printed Communications Section 1 Sysco Identity

The typeface Myriad Pro has

been approved for use in all

Sysco communications. Myriad Pro

Regular is the preferred type to

be used exclusively for body copy

and headlines on professionally

printed materials.

Myriad Pro is typically only available

to professional printers. It should be

used in all external marketing and

communication materials that

are professionally printed.

The word Sysco must always be used

in upper and lower case. The logo can

never be used in place of the word

“Sysco” in a body of text.

Verdana should be used in upper/lower

case on all desktop correspondence

including letters, memos, emails and

Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentations.

This font should also be used for any

web applications. Upper and lower

case should be used for body text

Verdana is typically available on office

computer systems and is very similar

to Myriad Pro, which is used only for

professionally printed material.

THE SYSCO TONE OF VOICE In addition to a strong and cohesive visual identity, the Sysco brand must also adhere

to a distinctive verbal tone. The voice we use reflects both who we are and how others perceive us, so we should

consistently convey the following characteristics: WELCOMING Sysco is a powerful and beneficial partner made

up of talented, committed associates. Eliminate corporate jargon in favor of terms such as “we” and “our”, which

will allow people to more readily identify with the company. STRAIGHTFORWARD We don’t use overly

complicated language, because communication should be straightforward and easy to understand. If we must

use difficult wording, it should be explained in simple terms. We don’t use slang. ACCESSIBLE Sysco is an

open and accessible company. We respect our partners’ points of view and welcome their opinions, because it helps

us to change and better meet their needs. For example: “We value your opinion, so please let us know what you

think.” RESPONSIBLE We must take a responsible, professional stance when addressing the issues facing

our customers and communities. For example: “We live and work in the communities that we serve, so we work

hard to preserve the environment and improve the local economy.” ACTIVE Sysco is a dynamic company that is

constantly evolving to meet the needs of our customers. As such, we use the active voice rather than the passive

voice. For example: “With a workforce of 46,000 in more than 180 locations, Sysco has the talent and reach to go

beyond our customers expectations.”

a billboard that walks around in public,

enhancing your image. Here are several

stylish items that you can use for

Specialty items have many uses, from

customer gifts to event promotions to

employee spirit. The Sysco logo can be

applied to a variety of objects; the most

important guideline is to maintain color

and spacing specifications.

The secondary color portfolio shown

here is available to give you more

flexibility on certain uses. These colors

should be used primarily as highlights

for promotional materials, in-house

publications and online graphics.

There are unique events when a

different base color is appropriate. For

example, you may want to produce a

pink hat for a breast cancer event. In

these rare cases, the all-white version of

the Sysco logo should always be used.
