LMS Imagine.Lab SysDM Client Installation & Configuration

1. Overview

LMS Imagine.Lab SysDM is an Enterprise Solution for the Collaborative Management of Models,

Data and related artifacts in Model Based System Engineering. SysDM stands for System Data

Manager. This document provides step by step process to install and configure SysDM client for

Independent and Network installation.

2. Prerequisites

2.1. System requirements

The following version of OS are supported by SysDM

o Windows XP Professional SP2 and above

o Windows 7

o Open SUSE Linux 10.2 & 11.3(32 & 64 bit)

o RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) 5.6 (64 bit)

2GB RAM minimum, 4GB RAM is recommended

Minimum Disk space of 400MB required. Maximum is based on the data.

Processor : Pentium IV and above

2.2. Installed Software and other requirements

SysDM license file or SysDM license server must be available.

SysDM server must be installed and configured. SysDM server must be available in the

same network.

There should not be any firewall between SysDM server and SysDM client.

User who is going to run SysDM client application must have write access in SysDM client

installation directory and its sub-directories.

3. Installing SysDM Client

For Windows:

Double click the SysDM client Installer XXXXXXXX_SysDM_EC_Rev_12.exe (For example,

20130213_SysDM_EC_Rev_12.exe). This opens installation wizard which will guide you through

complete installation process.

Figure 3.1 : Installation Wizard

After this, SysDM shows welcome message.

For Linux:

Kindly ensure executable rights are available to the client installer script XXXXXXXX_SysDM_EC_

Rev_12.sh (For example, 20130213_SysDM_EC_Rev_12.sh). If not, run the following command:

Chmod +x 20130213_SysDM_EC_Rev_12.sh

Double click the SysDM client Installer shell script or type bash < SysDM client Installer shell script>.

This opens installation wizard and shows welcome message

Independent Installation: By this, each client is installed with the entire executable and application

maintained data. Executable will not be shared with other clients and exclusively used by the client

where the installation is made.

Network Installation: By this, a common client is installed and the executable will be shared by

many clients in the network. Application maintained data will not be stored in this common client.

Application maintained data will be stored independently in each client system which is connected to

this common client. You cannot directly use this installation. You have to install a local client to use

the SysDM application (Refer SysDM_Local_Client_Installation_guide document for more details).

Select the type of installation as Independent Installation or Network Installation and click Next

button.

This opens Select Destination directory dialog box.

Figure 3.5 : Select Destination directory dialog box

By default SysDM installs the client under C:\Program Files (x86)\ LMS\Imagine_Lab_SysDM

directory. If you want to change the installation directory to some other folder, click Browse… button.

This opens OS File Browser dialog box. Browse and choose the directory where you want to install.

The selected directory will be displayed in Destination directory field. Alternatively if you know the

installation directory path, you can type the directory path in Destination directory field. If the

destination directory path is not available, SysDM will create the destination directory. After this

click Next button.

This opens Select Database dialog box.

Select database is not applicable for Linux OS. Only HSQL is supported in Linux OS.

Figure 3.9 : Select Database

Select HSQL database, if you are not going to perform System Synthesis operations. It is

an embedded database and no additional installation required.

Select PostgreSQL 8.4 database, if you are going to perform System Synthesis operations

as System Synthesis does not support HSQL database. However, for SysDM operations it

is not mandatory. A separate installer will be launched to install PostgreSQL, if it is not

already installed.

For Independent installation, the database selection will create and use the database in the selected

tool. For Network Installation, this will restrict all the local clients to use the selected database. If you

have selected the HSQL option, it will create the database and configure it. In this case, Database

Settings will not be there in the Client Settings dialog box.

If you want to perform System Synthesis functions, you must select PostgreSQL database.

Page 14: SysDM Client Installation Guide

After selecting the database option, click Next button to continue. SysDM extracts the installation

files from the installer and the progress will be shown with the file names in the following screen.

Figure 3.10 : Installation progress

After extraction, installer starts the installation with third-party packages (if applicable).

change the port number. Remember this port number as it is required to

configure SysDM client

Enter Password

Postgres installation creates a service account by name ‘postgres’. You

have to provide password for this account. This password must honour your

local security policy. Remember this password as it is required to configure

SysDM client

Re- Enter Password Provide the above password for confirmation

3.2. Silent Installation

You can install SysDM independent client without user interaction. This is known as silent

installation. Database will be assumed as HSQL in this installation. You can use the following

command to install SysDM in silent mode:

<SysDM Installer> -q –dir < empty directory path >

For example,

20130213_SysDM_EC_Rev_12.exe -q -dir "C:\Program Files (x86)\LMS

\Imagine_Lab_SysDM\Client_12"

Do not install SysDM in silent mode if you want to perform System Synthesis functions.
