Women's History Month By: Marcus Juan, Jai Patel, and Jake Lee

When is Women's History Month?

Women’s History Month is celebrated in the month of March. It starts on Thursday, March 1st, and it ends on Saturday, March 31st. It is celebrated in a lot of places. Women's History Month is a month of remembrance.

What is Women’s History Month?

Women's History Month is a good month. In this month, everyone recognizes the women that have contributed to the nation. Women have helped our nation a lot in the past year, and now, as well. In this month, we recognize the great things women have done to help everyone today.

History Behind Women’s History Month

Molly Murphy MacGregor, Mary Ruthsdotter, Maria Cuevas, Paula Hammett and Bette Morgan were the founders of this month. The first time this month was celebrated was in the month of March in the year of 1981. That's when Congress officially passed it. Women’s History Month is interesting.

Why Do We Need Women’s History Month? Women’s History Month is a day to honor women who have done a great deal of service to our country. People like Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman would be honored from March 1st to March 31st. Usually, women who made history are honored, but if you know any honorable women, don’t forget to thank them for their services.

How Has The World Changed? Back in the 1970’s to 1980’s, women looked like this:

They were very depressed and their lives consisted of cleaning and wanting their own rights. Now, thanks to things like Women’s History Month, women are more recognized for their actions. They get more awareness for what they have done to the country and/or their hometown. Today, women are treated with the same respect and honor as a man.

Helping Out

Now that you know why women are honored for their actions, think about what you can do to help out. If a woman is going on a trip to a faraway land, greet them, wish them good luck, or help them out. After all, you never know if you just met the first woman to cross the Atlantic, do you? So next time you see a woman that seems like they’re packing away for good, find out what they are doing and help out wherever you can.

By: Mary Raheb

Supplies you will need:

● An Empty Cardboard Box ● Green Paper (Construction Paper) ● Glue ● Tape ● Pot of Gold  ● Scissors  ● Rainbow Paper ● St. Patrick’s Day garland ● St. Patrick’s Day embellishments ● Cotton Balls ● Lucky Charms ( If wanted )

2. Now, add the garland around the edges of the box. 3. The fun part is to decorate the sides and top of the box

with some embellishments and stickers. 4. Let's make the trap! Take a piece of contraction paper that

is a little larger than the cut out square you made. Tape it to the box, so when the leprechaun comes in he, will fall in the trap like we want it to!

5. Cut out a rainbow with rainbow paper. If you don’t have that type of paper, just take white paper and color it with rainbow colors! Now, we make some clouds with cotton balls and glue them on the paper.

6. Add a pot of gold with glue on the top of the box.  7. (You can do this if you want.) Take lucky charms and put

them on the top of the box to tempt the leprechaun to come and eat them.

Now you are done! Enjoy having fun making some traps! Happy Patrick’s Day!
