WHO WE ARE: The Church of the Epiph- any is one of 181 parishes of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, which is one of 110 dioceses in The Episcopal Church (USA), one of 44 member churches in the worldwide Anglican Communion. THE CHURCH OF THE EPIPHANY THE STAR January 2019 I am excited to announce that starting in February, a new bible study group will be forming. Our first two meetings will be on February 13 th and the 27 th at 6:30 pm. After that, we will be meeting twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. This comes from conversations with the vestry and other members of the parish. There is a desire to have more oppor- tunities for formation outside of Sunday mornings. We hope that this will give that opportunity. The study of scripture is an essential part of the life of faith. The Christian tradition encourages us to read a small portion daily in tandem with our daily prayers. But tackling the bible on our own can often feel overwhelming, with its sheer size, scope, and complexity. It can be easy to become lost in all those chapters and verses. An advantage of a bible study is the shared insight and wisdom of the group. Each person brings their own voice, experience, and viewpoint to the table. Reading and discussing scripture with others will always open it up further. A deeper understanding and connection to the bible is one of the gifts we give each other when we share and talk about it. If you have any questions, please let me know. Our first two meetings will be important, as they will outline our ap- proach and schedule. All are welcomed. Your involvement in the bible study group will be a gift to your fellow Epiphany members. In Christ, Father Andrew+

    Finance & Stewardship

Has been working closely with the Treasurer and Vestry to provide a bal-anced budget for the 2019 calendar year. We want to remind everyone that if you have not yet turned in your pledge card, please do so soon. We have set a tentative date of January 27th for the Annual Congregational meeting where the budget for 2019 will be presented and discussed. Thank you.

Happy New Year! We are so honored to welcome Bishop Ihloff with us this Sunday, January 6th, to lead us in our service of Epiphany. We celebrate this particular day because it is the time that Jesus was re-vealed to the world, the day the Wise men found him, that “aha moment” when the realization that something big is about to happen in your life.

We will have a special coffee hour to welcome the Bishop and the candidates who were Bap-tized, Received, and those Reaffirming their faith. If you can, please bring a snack to share. If you have any questions, contact Joyce, our lovely church hostess, at 262-3594.

We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

    Faithfully,

    Karen
