FAITH

“For I know the plan I have for you,” says the Lord. (Jeremiah 29:11a). Well, the Lord had plans for me to be here among you. I am excited to be here and I am looking forward to sharing in ministry with you. As we look to a future filled with possibilities we do so believ-ing in a Lord and Savior who gave His all.

Foremost, faith is God’s gift. We do not obtain faith by our efforts or cleverness or by being especially good or pious. Faith is not a con-tribution we make, that establishes some sort of claim on God. God makes us open to the Gospel. God creates and sustains faith through the Holy Spirit. Faith is God’s free and undeserved gift. Faith is also freedom. To have faith is being set free more and more

from the things that keep us from saying yes to God. Faith is a response to God’s Word, to the message that God has addressed to us. It means humbly submitting to accept God’s for-giveness and to recognize God’s claim on us, to call us God’s children.

As we are grasped by the gift of faith by a loving and caring God, I think of faith in this

manner: F = God’s gift of FORGIVENESS through the body and blood of Jesus Christ; A = God ACTIVE in our lives which inspires us to ACTION; I = It’s all God’s INITIATIVE, there is nothing we can do to be righteous before

God; T = THANKFULLNESS to a gracious God for the free gift of new life, promised in

our Baptism; H = HOPE in Jesus Christ for life eternal away from the everyday struggles of this

earthly life. We are a family at St. Paul and as we face the journey ahead we must rely on our faith

together. As we focus on the future, we do so with excitement and thanksgiving for all God has already accomplished and is yet to accomplish through us. It would be easy to just say, “let things stay the way they are,” or “I have already done my part.” Instead, we are called to faithfully and prayerfully search deep within our souls, asking the question: “Lord what is it you want us to do, me to do?” Now more than ever, it is time for us to do ministry, to step out in FAITH. In our common FAITH we will grow by the grace and love of our God.

Greetings to all. This is a great month for St. Paul. The new Pastor, William Schroeder,

started his position with us on Tuesday, October 16th. He did his first service on

Saturday, October 20th. This was exciting for me and I hope you felt the same.

He is currently trying to get settled into the parsonage. It is a slow process due to the time

we had to get ready for him. I thank all the congregation members that spent many hours

of cleaning and painting to make the parsonage ready. We still have much to do. If you

feel you have a little time and talent, please let the office know.

You should have received an invitation to the dual installation of Pastors William and

Kristine Schroeder on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 6:30 pm starting at Zion in Huron

and ending at St. Paul with a reception following. Please RSVP so we know how many to

plan for.

Other points of interest are: 1. The visual monitors for the services in the Sanctuary were

approved by a majority vote on October 6th and 7th. 2. The council also approved a

hearing impaired system for the services to be installed at the same time as the monitors.

3. The exterior locks were changed on Wednesday, October 17th. If you have a key to

the building or garage it will not work. Pick up an application from the back ledge for an

entry card or garage key if you need one.

FROM THE COUNCIL PRESIDENT

CHURCH COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS JOYTIME HALLOWEEN PROJECTS

CPR CLASS

Anyone interested in taking a CPR/AED class please sign up

in the Narthex. The date and time will be announced at a

later date. Thank you.

1. We will be purchasing a new laptop for Pastor Schroeder.

2. In November we will have Opioid Training.

3. The council will be voting for the FLAMe document electronically.

4. The youth groups will be using the Fellowship Hall weekly. Pathfinders will meet the

second and fourth weeks. E.P.I.C., which includes our confirmation youth, meets the first,

third and fifth weeks. There is a light meal for purchase. They will rotate quarterly

between St. Paul and Zion, Sandusky.

5. Council voted to donate $500.00 to Trinity Lutheran Seminary.

6. Zion, Sandusky is requesting volunteers to house musicians overnight on Oct. 24.

7. We will be participating in Lutheran Home of Mercy’s Adopt a Resident program.

Volunteers will buy items and deliver them to the home. A list of residents and their needs

will be forthcoming.

8. Previous tenants paid nothing when vacating the premises. We will be sending them a bill

for unpaid rent and utilities as well as missing items and cleanup from a drinking party in

September.

9. A formal giving program including pledge cards was discussed. We need to stress an

increase in giving now that we have a full time pastor.

10. St. Mary’s Central Catholic School has requested use of our gym on Saturday mornings for

volleyball practice during the months of December-April.

11. The vote for visual aides in the sanctuary was passed at the October congregational

meeting.

12. There will be a retreat for council and staff at the Sandusky Yacht Club on October 27.

The ministry team will be helping to make a positive difference in our community

by participating in the Baby Bottle Fund Raiser for Heartbeat. During the month

of November those who wish to participate can take a baby bottle and fill it with

money. When it is full or by the end of the month bring it back and the ministry

team will deliver it to Heartbeat.
