Naples,” Watt began. Miromar is wayahead of the curve. I think we are allready for it. I suspect that the Mediter-ranean architecture, that had a 25 yearrun, has had its day and while it was anextraordinary attractive form of archi-tecture and embraced by everyone,
Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club isgoing for a new look. It is sleeker, moremodern and a huge difference from theusual style in that community. Marga-ret Antonier was inspired by the Ital-ian and French Riviera and created thecommunity to reflect that style. Every-thing from the bridges to the Mediter-ranean style homes fit that look. ButAntonier has seen the changes in cus-tomer preferences and is forgingahead with a style that will bring diver-sity to the community.
“Modern architecture adds a newdimension to Miromar Lakes’ architec-tural landscape, in addition to thecoastal, transitional, Mediterraneanand other styles available,” Antonierstated. “The diversity of architecturalstyles is one of the things that makeMiromar Lakes unique. Architecturekeeps evolving over the years and wehave to offer different choices as peo-ple have different tastes.”
The builders at Miromar are cur-rently constructing new models to fitthe more modern style.
“We are now showing modern ar-chitecture in our model homes sohome buyers can see and decide whatthey prefer, the other styles are alreadyrepresented in our existing homes,”
Antonier continued. “You can’t say thatone is nicer than another. It’s a matter oftaste and preference, giving our buyersan array of architectural styles for theirnew home.”
Steve Watt, President of GulfshoreHomes, is excited about this new ven-ture.
“We are seeing the trend throughout

most of these architectural styles have alife and after a certain amount of timepeople are ready for something new andfresh.”
The Gulfshore model soars three sto-ries high and features cleaner lines andmore geometric shapes.
“The special features are it has hasopenness, huge amounts of glass, theoutside blending with the inside,” Wattdescribed. “There are taller glass slidersthat are no longer step downs. They areseamless. There is the open staircasethat appears to just float. The entire em-phasis is on clean lines, geometry, noth-ing carved, nothing heavy. It’s the freshclean approach to interior and exteriorarchitecture. It is much, much cleanerand very little in the way of extensive in-terior trim work; much less fussy.”
Tim Rose, building company presi-dent for Arthur Rutenberg Homes/Ly-ons Housing, said he was thrilled whenAntonier spoke with him about creatinghomes with modern architecture.
“I love it,” Rose said. “I jumped on itwith both feet. I have built that Mediter-ranean and Tuscan style for years, andwe were anxious to see something newand fresh.”
Rose said the new Adelaide modelwill combine the modern look withwarmth. The model will feature stone, stucco and wood on the exterior andstraight flat rooflines.
“It is an incredible departure archi-tecturally from what we have done be-fore,” Rose described. “It is incrediblyclean. It is nice and contemporary. It isfresh without feeling cold. You get intosome of these things that are marbleand glass and chrome and they feel cold. This is cleaner, but still has a warm, fresh feel to it,”
Seagate Development Group is build-ing a modern estate model home thatwill feature clean-lined, high-end fin-ishes and interior design.
“Today’s buyers are looking forsomething different,” said James Nulf,Seagate’s president. “This type of archi-tecture is not new. It is very popular inNaples and we were excited that shewas looking for something that buyersare demanding these days.”
The Seagate model features a mix-ture of stucco, stone and tile details..
Nulf does not believe the addition ofmodern architecture will diminish An-
tonier’s Riviera vision.“I don’t think it will change the integ-
rity,” he said. “I think it will enhance theoverall development.”
Alan Foster, vice president of salesand marketing for Divco CustomHomes, says his company is pleased tobe able to adapt architectural styles tothe wants of the market.”
The Divco Andora model is currentlyunder construction at Miromar with ex-pected completion in early fall
“It's a very straight lined, clean, notfussy architecture style that brings ablend of textures into the design,” Fostersaid. “This particular home features aclear glass element to the home thatbrings in light to the center part of thehome.”
Foster said Antonier made the rightchoice in choosing to add this new ar-chitectural style in Miromar.
“First of all I think it is reacting to themarket,” Foster explained. “There's cer-tainly a sector of the market that is in-terested and wants a more contempo-rary style of architecture. The insertionof the contemporary architecture ishealthy and it creates diversity of de-
sign. It creates interest and more value.”Antonier agrees.“Variety enhances the whole com-
munity,” she stated. “The mix of archi-tecture creates exciting and eclectic
streetscapes. If you look at well-knownaffluent parts of cities, there are alwaysmany different home designs on a streetwhich makes it beautiful and interest-ing.”
