It is the tradition of the Church to make reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on First Fridays. We have been concentrating on adoration on First Fri-days by having Exposition of the Eucha-rist from after the 8:15 am Mass until the evening 5:30 pm Mass. It is important that we have at least two adorers for each hour when we have Exposition.

The weekend before each First Friday we have a sign-up sheet in the atrium of the church for parishioners to see which hours are filled and which are vacant. Then you can sign for an hour accordingly. We also welcome adorers to take an hour any day of the week. You may select an hour convenient for you. We ask that you sign in at the book on the podium near the St Joseph statue. (This allows others to know which hours have an adorer) You may take your place in the adoration area on the right of the sanctuary where you are close to the tabernacle, or you may remain in the main body of the Church - anywhere you are comfortable. We encourage new adorers to check the sign-in book to see which hours do not have an adorer. We would like to ex-tend the number of hours that are filled.

EVENTS OF INTEREST TO ST JOHN’S YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES

Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s and Best Choice Collection Program News

Many thanks go to the parishioners and school families who continue to support St John’s School through these collec-tion programs. This past school year, we sent in over 15,000 Campbell’s UPC’s and received DVD’s for the li-brary, computer software, and footballs, tetherballs, and jump ropes for the playground and After School Care pro-gram. We received two checks totaling $2,267 from Box Tops for Education and $300 from the Best Choice UPC redemption program. This goes toward whatever areas of the school that need funding most. Our 4th grade class re-ceived a pizza party from the Student Council for collecting over 5000 of these items this past school year. Please con-tinue to collect Box Tops, Campbell’s, and Best Choice UPC”S as these collection programs continue from year to year. Send them to school with your favorite student(s) or place them in the Rubbermaid container back by the SCRIP desk. Thank you! (Special thanks goes to Betty and Marlene!)

The next CALIX meeting (for those concerned with Alcoholism) will be today, Sunday, July 31, at Madonna’s Ryan Memorial Chapel, 5401 South Street. Mass begins at 5:00 pm. Covered dish meal to follow. Call Craig C. at 402-438-6319, for more informa-tion. St John the Apostle’s Visiting Ministry for the home bound be-gan over five years ago. A small group of parishioners began visit-ing members of the parish who could no longer be active because of infirmities, trying to make them feel a part of the parish. Each member of the ministry is asked to make home visits or to make calls to assigned members of the parish. Shortly after the Visiting Ministry program began, several members of the parish began making use of their special talents making prayer shawls, having read about other communities that did this praying for the recipient as they knitted or crocheted. Thus the Visiting Ministry and the Shawl Ministry joined forces. This is a beautiful way to practice one of the Corporal Works of Mercy. On Divine Mercy Sunday the Shawls are brought to Church and are given a special blessing before being distributed. We have found that this Ministry has been greatly appreciated. Because of the increasing number of infirm, we are grateful for new members to both of these ministries.

We recently received a letter of thanks from Matt Talbot Kitchen for our gift of $1,162 (from the SHARE Env.) to help support their hunger relief and outreach services for our commu-nity’s working poor and homeless.
