  • POPE DEDICATES A SPECIAL SUNDAY EVERY YEAR TO THE BIBLE: “SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD”. The pope proposed that on that

Sunday, the great importance of the Bible should be contemplated. The first Sunday of the Word of God will be Jan. 26, 2020.

What is the Sacred Scriptures? CCC 135 "The Sacred Scriptures contain the Word of God and, because they are inspired, they are truly the Word of God" (Catechism of the Catholic Church) The Bible actually consists of a collection of sacred writings or scriptures. It is not one book but collection of books compiled together. Who is the Author of the Sacred Scriptures? CCC 105. God is the author of Sacred Scripture. "The divinely revealed reali-ties, which are contained and presented in the text of Sacred Scripture, have been written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. How did God do it? Who actually wrote it? CCC 106 God inspired the human authors of the sacred books. "To compose the sacred books, God chose certain men who, all the while he employed them in this task, made full use of their own faculties and powers so that, though he acted in them and by them, it was as true authors that they consigned to writing whatever he wanted written, and no more. How can we know the true interpretation of the Sacred Scripture? CCC 109 In Sacred Scripture, God speaks to man in a human way. To interpret Scripture correctly, the reader must be attentive to what the human authors truly wanted to affirm, and to what God wanted to reveal to us by their words. What's the difference between a "Catholic Bible" and a "Protestant Bible"? Catholic and Protestant Bibles both include 27 books in the New Testament. New Testament: the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of St. Paul to the Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Gala-

tians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, the Letter to the Hebrews, the Letters of James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2 and 3 John, and Jude, and Revelation (the Apocalypse). Protestant Bibles have only 39 books in the Old Testament, however, while Catholic Bibles have 46. The Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesi-astes, the Song of Songs, the Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), Isaiah, Jer-emiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi. (The seven books included in Catholic Bibles are Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom,

Sirach, and Baruch. also sections in the Books of Esther and Daniel ) (Check inside the cover, on the title page, or on the back of the title page of your Bible. If it has a Imprimatur

and a Nilhil Obstat it is certainly a Catholic Bible.)

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord – A 2020

"This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” The Epiphany continues. Last week the newborn King manifested himself to the wise men. This Sunday at His baptism, the Father made known who Jesus is: "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." Jesus is the Beloved Son of the Father. And he lived his life being true to this identity of being the Beloved Son. He manifested to us what it means to live encom-passed by the Father’s love and how he lived loving the Father completely. Theirs is such an intimate relationship of a Father and Son. And this is what Jesus wants to share with us. That by the virtue of our own baptism, we too are reborn to become God’s beloved children. And our relationship with Him can not be less intimate. We are called to live in the love of the Father and to live loving Him with our lives. And when we accept this offer of life and love from Our Lord, we, too, becom-ing pleasing to Him.

“Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.”

    -St Jerome
