MASS INTENTIONS Greatness, in Jesus' view, is found in our willingness to accept, lovingly welcome and serve those who are considered unacceptable and undeserving by reason of class, color, religion, wealth or culture. We must welcome people the loving way a child welcomes them before he is taught discrimination. If we are to be truly great, we must be ready to accept four challeng-es: (1) to put ourselves last, (2) to be the servant of all, (3) to receive the most insignificant human beings with love, and (4) to expect nothing in return. Let us pray for the true spirit of

loving service, for an attitude of love for those around us. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to help us to become truly great through humble, loving and selfless service.

Mass of Dedication and Recognition Postponed October 20, 2015 at 7:30pm

Given that many of our parishioners who are away during the Sum-mer and have not become aware of this celebration and in order to give everyone more time to plan, our celebration has been postponed to take place in the context of our Parish Feast in October when we celebrate our patron Saint Jude. The new and final date is Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 7:30pm. This mass is about recognizing those who made a sacrificial five year pledge as well as those who contrib-uted with commemorative items such as the Restoration of the Stain Glass Win-dows and other items that are not as visible but foundational to our parish. We invite the entire community to join together and join me in expressing our grat-

itude for the difference made by those who responded so generously and sacrificially for our community. Following the mass we will join in our Parish Hall to celebrate.

“Project Hope” In response to the global refugee crisis, Cardinal Thomas Collins has launched “Project Hope,” a special emergency appeal. This 100-day campaign aims to raise $3 million in order to settle 100 refugee fami-

lies in the Archdiocese of Toronto as soon as possible. The effort will also require 100 vol-unteer committees to assist with settlement services. To make a donation to support the appeal, visit: www.archtoronto.org or call (416) 934-3411. You can also donate through our parish with a cheque made payable to NAME OF PARISH – PROJECT HOPE – REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP. We continue to pray for all those suffering, mindful of our call to welcome the stranger in our midst. Those interested in assisting with volunteer commit-tees should contact the Office for Refugees at (647) 780-0827.

Not Married in the Church There are many mis-conceptions today re-garding the validity of civil marriages for those who are Catho-lic. Regardless of the reasons why you are not married in the church it is important

to know how that affects you as a Catho-lic. We would like to invite anyone who is in this situation or knows someone who is, to attend a series of talks in which we will discuss marriage in the Catholic Church. Other topics will in-clude: annulment procedures, divorce, separation, intermarriages, etc. We will discuss all this in a non-judgmental environment with the hope that we can help you understand and grow as a cou-ple. Our First Meeting will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10am.

Planning to become a teacher in the Catholic Schools?

It is critical for you to know that to be hired to teach in any Catholic School Board in Ontario as part of your application for em-ployment there must be a letter of reference from your pastor. If you are planning to ap-ply to teach in a Catholic School, contacting the pastor before Thanksgiving is highly recommended. Please plan to have a con-versation with your pastor early in the pro-cess (not the week before you are submitting your application) and you will avoid disap-pointment and stress at the time when appli-cations are to be submitted. The following are required by all those requesting a pastoral reference:

You are a registered member of the parish us-ing offertory envelopes for at least a year prior to the request.

You participate at Sunday/Saturday mass in our parish for a minimum of one year prior to the request.

You are involved in some way at our parish.

Make your request 3 months prior to the sub-mission of your application.

You are the one making the request per-sonally. No request will be accepted by any third party, which includes a relative or a parent.

The pastor has to be able to recommend you and that can only happen if he knows you at the basic level of regular mass attendance. Personal knowledge of the candidate’s faith practice is what the pastor needs to recom-mend.

Pope Francis’ Pontificate Attend a lecture on “What the Papal Visit to Cuba and USA might tell us about the Synod on the Family Tuesday September 29, 2015 at 7:00pm. Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Toronto 416-231-6016 or [email protected]

Needs of the Canadian Church

Second Collection September 26/27 Your gifts are used by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in national and international pastoral activity. Thank you for your support.

Questions for Reflection:

Who are the “just ones” who endure per-secution by the wicked ones today? Is there an injustice that tries your patience?

Where does ambition for power and greatness lead?

What does it do to a country? to a busi-ness? to a Church?

I am interested in joining the focus group

that will help organize the Consecration

to our Lady project.
