SISTERS HERE; FRIENDS FOR LIFEIt’s been a busy season for Tri Delta chapters across the US at schools participating in Fall recruitment.

The Dallas Alumnae Group is overjoyed to welcome the following young women from the Dallas area to our sisterhood.

3100 REASONS TO CELEBRATEIt’s been a busy and exciting Fall for the collegiate women of Theta Kappa. Their days have been filled with Monday Night Football events, Tri-Fit fitness night, formals, parties, and preparing for recruitment. They also recently held their annual pancake breakfast, Delta Diner, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the most highly anticipated and respected philanthropy events at SMU. All this has happened between classes, where they’ve maintained the highest cumulative GPA on campus of 3.5 for, well, so many consecutive years we’re beginning to lose count. As the semester winds down, the ladies of 3100 University will take part in a campus Cookies & Castles event, preparing for final exams, and finalizing preparations for formal recruitment in January. They hope you will join them for Skit Night Preview on January 6th to see how hard they’ve worked. Before you know it we will all welcome another pledge class and members to our sisterhood. As you can see, the Delta Delta Delta Alumnae of Dallas have a lot to be proud of when it comes to our collegiate members.

football + fun = a full fall for the theta kappas

The Theta Kappa’s pulled out their calendars and are planning for a fall semester full of fun! From football games and homecoming to sisterhood

events, and yes, already preparing for spring recruitment, ever mindful, our collegiate Tri Delta’s are thinking ahead! Speaking of spring recruitment, don’t forget to send in your recommendations and letters for potential Tri Deltas. We want to keep up the tradition of filling our future pledge class with the most outstanding women at SMU. Also, mark your calendars for January 10th for Skit Preview. Bring a legacy or friend and get a taste of the talented and fun-loving ladies of Theta Kappa. Additionally, this semester the women of Theta Kappa will again host their annual “Delta Diner” pancake breakfast benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The success of this event continues to grow on campus and in the community. Theta Kappa is honored to be named forth among all collegiate chapters in fundraising for St. Jude. In other exciting news, our 2008 President, Erin Ramaker, was chosen as a ‘09-‘10 Tri Delta Field Consultant. Delta snaps to Ms. Ramaker as she makes her travels across the United States, educating and assisting other chapters! We’re proud of her representation of Theta Kappa as she furthers her involvement in our beloved fraternity! Other dates to jot down, get out your red and blue and remember SMU’s Homecoming on November 7th and Family weekend on the 13th. Thank you for being a part of the Dallas Tri Delta community and supporting your local chapter! The Theta Kappa women appreciate our alumni involvement more than you know!

The Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Tri Delta premiers the Legacy Liaison Committee this year. Catherine Lofton Granger put together a fantastic team of

Class Captains. Each Class Captain will promote upcoming Tri Delta events intended for their daughter’s age and grade. Different grades will have

different, distinct events with specific participation opportunities for that grade level. Events for children preK-4, are designed for enjoyment and sons

and grandsons are included. Service hours may be earned for several events while others are purely for fun.

a new, fantastic House Corporation Board is enthusiastic and excited to jump in and keep 3100 University a wonderful home-away-from-home running

smoothly. Summer has come to a close and Fall is upon us and the collegians have moved into the Theta Kappa house. Over the summer, the house underwent many repairs: some small, some large. In addition to the routine summer painting and cleaning, we had to replace an air conditioning unit and repair another. Looming over us by 2013 is the deadline to install an interior sprinkler system mandated by the University Park Fire Marshall. In order to prepare for that deadline, our sub-committee “Project Sprinkler” has been working diligently to determine the best course of action to remain competitive on campus. Stay tuned! For more information, contact Jackie Converse, Theta Kappa House Corporation Board President.

SMU TRI DELTA ANNOUNCES $1,000,000 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Tri Delta sisters of all ages have a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of our local Dallas chapter. The precious Tri Delta home at SMU can no longer accommodate the needs of our members. Limitations in communal, study and meeting space, along with the need to modernize internal systems, bathrooms and issues with an aging roof have caused the House Corporation to investigate opportunities to overcome these challenges. In examining the needs of the Tri Delta house along with the future desires for the chapter, Theta Kappa alumnae have set in motion a plan to build a new chapter home in the same location as our current facility. We believe this project will address all of our challenges and preserve the livelihood of our chapter for generations to come. We also acknowledge that in order for the future to come alive, we must engage the support of those who helped create our past that has led to such a successful present. Alumnae, collegians & friends of SMU Tri Deltas have an opportunity to give back through financial support to a chapter that has given us so much. If you are interested in giving to this wonderful campaign, please contact Mary Martha Gibson Stinnett ’56 at 713-898-3122 or [email protected]. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

MOTHERS CLUBDo you have a Tri Delta daughter? Are you interested in supporting the local SMU Chapter, out-of-town daughters, and Tri Delta mothers? You are just the woman we are looking for to join the Delta Delta Delta Mothers’ Club. The Mothers’ Club hosts monthly events for daughters and for mothers alike including decorating the SMU House for the holidays and the benefit tea fundraiser. Activities are already planned for the remainder of the year. Check DallasDeltas.com for membership information, a calendar of events, and more information.

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW FOR THE 4th ANNUAL COOKIES & CASTLES: A GINGERBREAD EXTRAVAGANZA

The Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta will host the 4th annual Cookies & Castles: A Gingerbread Extravaganza on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Over the past two years alone Tri Delta has donated more than $22,000 to the beneficiaries of this great event: Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Department of Prosthetics and the Delta Delta Delta Foundation Crescent Fund.

Cookies and Castles is truly a multi-generational event – engaging alumnae and Tri Delta legacies of all ages, as well as individuals from the community passionate about supporting our philanthropic efforts and general holiday festivities.

Families and children will decorate beautiful and aromatic gingerbread houses and gingerbread men in a candy wonderland. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also visit and take pictures. Once the cookies and “castles” are completely adorned with delectable treats, they are packaged and taken home by the families to enjoy the entire holiday season.

If you are interested in reserving a gingerbread man or gingerbread house, visit www.dallasdeltas.com or email [email protected]. But act fast! Spots are filling up quickly!

PRESIDENT’S CORNER There are so many demands on our time these days. It is hard to fit anything in unless it has meaning for us. One of our goals for this year is to offer ways to make membership and spending time with our sisters meaningful for each and every alumna. To that end, we have added Special Interest Groups, a way to get together with small groups of Tri Deltas who share common interests. See the “Fun, Fellowship & Friends” section of this newsletter for more information. We are also encouraging members of any age to attend the Night Group meetings. If evening meetings fit your schedule—GO! There are some great events planned for the year. The Night Group is NOT just for new graduates anymore.

We are coming up on a busy time of year for all of us, and our Alumnae Chapter is no exception. I currently have three DDD invitations on my refrigerator—the Theta Kappa Trick or Treat, Founders’ Day and Cookies & Castles. All three events have become family traditions at our house. My kids can’t wait! I love how each event touches different aspects of my life—the mom, the Tri Delta, the socially conscious and the child-at-heart. If we are failing to provide a meaningful membership experience for you, please call me. Let’s talk!

I am honored to serve as your Alumnae Chapter President. I hope to see you at Founders’ Day.

FALLING INTO THE SEASON

On September 21st, 40 Tri Deltas gathered at the Trinity Center for the annual Delta Delta Delta Fall Luncheon. Attendees were pleased to hear from Dr. Gail Thomas regarding the Dallas Trinity River Corridor Project. An afternoon spent with Tri Delta sisters was the perfect way to start the season.

FUN, FELLOWSHIP & FRIENDSIn an effort to provide more fellowship among our sisters, several special interest groups have been formed to provide you with the opportunities to hang out with your sisters doing your favorite pastimes. All activities are casual, low-key, and most importantly a FUN way to strengthen friendships and foster new ones among your sisters! Check out the groups below and email the organizer for more information. If you are interested in leading one of the groups still seeking leadership, please email Laura Meeks at [email protected].

FAREWELL TO A FRIENDTri Delta lost one of our dearest sisters on October 2, 2011, when 23-year-old, Allison Owens—Ally to her friends—was hit by a hit-and-run driver while on a morning jog in San Giovanni Valdarno, Italy. Ally was in Italy living her dream of being a tour guide for the Backroads company leading tours across Europe. Ally graduated from SMU in 2010 and was an active and respected leader in the Theta Kappa chapter. Ally, with her energetic and kind spirit, will be greatly missed by not only her friends and family, but all those who had the pleasure of benefiting from the joy she brought to this world.

A NIGHT OUT WITH YOUR GAL PALSThe Holidays are coming up and that means parties, happy hours, and nights out with your gal pals. If you are in need of a responsible young woman to watch your children while you are out on the town you are in luck. The women of Tri Delta at SMU have put together a babysitting list of girls interested in helping you out! If you would like a copy of the list, email Molly Cikacz at [email protected] and enjoy your night out!
